Kan: The possibility of extending the law of return to immigrants from Russia to the fourth generation is being considered
Last night at the cabinet meeting, Finance Minister Lieberman made a proposal to extend the rights of the Law of Return to the fourth generation "even temporarily". Prime Minister Yair Lapid replied that there should be a discussion on the matter • Yisrael Beitenu in response: "We have absolutely no intention of changing the Law of Return"

Amichai Stein 03 October 2022

Following the mass conscription and the reduction of the ability to immigrate from Russia, a first debate will be held today that will examine whether to extend the "Law of Return" to immigrants from Russia - also to the fourth generation. This was announced this morning (Monday) on the program "This Morning" here on Reshet Bet.

Today, the Law of Return applies only to the third generation, but last night during the cabinet meeting, Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman made a proposal to extend those entitled to the Law of Return to the fourth generation as well "even temporarily". Prime Minister Yair Lapid replied to him that there should be a discussion on the matter.
The escape from Russia In Israel, it is estimated that due to conscription in Russia, the motivation of the Jews to immigrate to Israel will increase. Since the beginning of the war with Ukraine, more than 24,000 Jews immigrated from Russia to Israel #HadshuthArab @AmichaiStein1 pic.twitter.com/E7nKsi0WED

At the same time, the Ministry of Immigration and Absorption is increasing preparations for the absorption of immigrants for fear that Russia will close its borders in the coming days. The understanding is that many of the Jews are trying to leave through the land crossings, with the goal being that the Jewish Agency will be waiting for them there. Last night at the cabinet meeting, ministers Pnina Tamno Sheta and Ze'ev Elkin warned: "We are on our way to a new iron curtain." As reported yesterday in Kahn News, the expectation is about 5,000-6,000 new immigrants every month.

The Diaspora Minister, Nachman Shai, said in an interview with Asaf Lieberman and Kalman Libeskind on the Kalman Lieberman program on the B network that "there are young Jewish and non-Jewish people who want to escape, they leave the borders of Russia and this will affect the immigration to Israel. This is an immigration of waves, it is not in a normal way. There are here Great pressure that we have to adjust ourselves. Now there is a real problem - where will they be? Apartments? We don't have apartments. The immigration must not be stalled at some point."
Diaspora Minister Nachman Shai on the possibility of the Law of Return for grandchildren as well: I am not canceling it, we need to think about it. There are 600,000 Jews in Russia according to the Law of Return and 160,000 Jews according to Halacha. Let's not be fixated on historical things, the previous rises brought life #KalmanLiebskind @asaf_lib pic.twitter.com/ohOo3CMOm5

Following the publication of Kan News, MK Simcha Rothman responded to Lieberman's intention to extend the law of return to immigrants from Russia to the fourth generation: "I understand the electoral distress of Avigdor Lieberman. It turns out that anti-Semitic propaganda brings too little benefit, and shouting that your political opponents are Goebbels and Stalin is less effective, so he feels the need to import voters. The Law of Return was enacted so that Israel would be a Jewish state. Lieberman is working to destroy Israel's Jewish identity."

In response to the publication, Israel Beitenu said that "We have absolutely no intention of changing the Law of Return - contrary to the desire of elements in the opposition to reduce it. But we are interested in allowing the members of the fourth generation of immigrants from Russia to come to Israel for a limited period of time until the end of the fighting."

Avigdor Lieberman

Minister of the Diaspora Nachman Shai (Labor) said that there are Jewish and non-Jewish young people who want to escape Russia... and that this will affect immigration to Israel.

The State of Israel is supposed to be a Jewish state. So what do these non-Jewish young people wanting to escape from Russia have to do with us? Nothing at all.

Perhaps Shai is actually bothering to differentiate between a real Jew and a Russian who happens to have the right to immigrate to Israel under the Law of Return?
Translated from Globes:
According to the proposal that the ministers are bringing to the upcoming government meeting - until their eligibility for immigration under the Law of Return is clarified, those "immigrants" will temporarily receive all the rights to which immigrants are entitled, including an absorption basket and subsistence allowance, this is based on the experience of the previous waves of immigration during which it was proven that an absolute majority (over 90%) ) did turn out to be eligible.
This report does not even bother to talk about Jews, but rather only about those entitled to immigrate by virtue of the Law of Return. And will those non-Jews, not qualifying under the Law of Return be asked to return to Russia after the war? Doubtful, especially if they were to face consequences for evading the draft.

It is claimed that there are 600,000 "Jews" in Russia according to the Law of Return and 160,000 Jews according to halakhah (Torah Law), as if there was any other way to determine who is a Jew. This means that only 26 percent of those mentioned here are really Jewish.

Who is going to pay for these non-Jews resettlement? Jews.

In addition, Lieberman talks about the narrowing of the Law of Return as if it were a bad thing. Evidence that he is not interested in preserving the Jewish identity of the State of Israel, what little there still is?

MK Simcha Rothman (Religious Zionism) is correct. Lieberman wants to import voters, and is working to destroy Israel's Jewish identity.

And a mixed multitude went up also with them; and flocks, and herds, even very much cattle. (Ex. 12:38)
Rav Avraham Yitzhaq Kook ztz"l even wrote about the Erev Rav from Russia, that the Yemenite Jews should remain in their small towns.

What would he say about the even more Russians pouring into Israel today, most of whom are not even Jewish?

What would he say about the Jews who are going to great lengths to bring all of these Jews into Israel?

The State already allowed a bunch of non-Jewish Ukrainians into Israel, giving financial assistance to them as if olim.
[bc Israel has been in close cooperation with Ukraine, hiring thugs, doing agricultural exchanges, and maybe more]
Now they want to do the same for Russians?
Isn’t there a provision for non-Jews living among Jews of a country fleeing war, to be allowed temporary protection under the Torah?
Why are they calling the 600,000 Jews (in name only)? And knowingly identifying the rest as ‘halachic’ Jews. What is their criteria for this identification?
This is also confusing to me.

Esser Agaroth said...

I cannot think of any such provision in the Torah. And ideally if at all possible, we should be concerned about Jews, and not non-Jews, even within the Land of Israel (Deut. 7:2). Many rabbis would claim (if anyone cared to ask them) that we are not in such a position to ignore the welfare of non-Jews within Israel, and probably they would say that we should be concerned with their welfare anyway (and that I'm wrong, along with the Rambam, the Tur, the Beth Yosef, and the Bach).

However, I have no doubt there are rabbis who say (assuming anyone even bothered to ask) that by bringing in such non-Jews, we are gaining necessary favor with non-Jews around the world. Of course, many look down upon these 600,000 non-Jews anyway, since they have Jewish blood (at least one Jewish grandparent).

The 160,000 they refer are actually Jewish.

When I was in an absorption center in 1997, I was told that even then only 40% of the university students housed there were actually Jewish. I even met one non-Jew who was misled into believing that he was Jewish, and was upset when he found out that he was not.

Still othe Statist rabbis will say that we have to follow the State Law regarding rights to immigration, which are extended to non-Jews (those with at least one Jewish grandparent).

Thank you for your important questions!

Agree with Esser Agaroth. Truthfully, we have to look at the 'state' as if it were under the control of non Jewish powers. Those from the start and now even moreso never had intentions of keeping it truly Jewish. Everyone knows that most of the Russians that came were completely non Jewish (having a grandparent or member of the family who happens to be a Jew means absolutely nothing as far as being considered Jewish). There probably is hardly a place on earth where there is Jewish blood mixed in some people. According to Jewish law, no land is allowed to be sold to non Jews in EY, nor is a non Jew allowed to live in EY unless he/she is a Noahide, living according to the 7 Laws of Noach. The 'state' has no interest in Torah laws and I believe their goal is the mixing up of Jews with non Jews to make us a nation, c'v, like all others.
Moshiach is on his way and that will be our salvation, so we who are the bnai Ma'aminim need to have complete Emunah and Bitachon only in Hashem that our salvation will be sooner than we think with the coming of Moshiach tzdkeinu.
