His black felt yarmulke read ‘Amos Gavriel’. His scalp was shaven, he was perhaps 5’8” or so; he was ‘built’ but not trim, and he was probably in his mid 30’s to early 40’s. After services the Chabad women ran up to him and clamored to know his occupation. ‘I have a moving business’ he answered. The women smiled and schmoozed with him a bissel’:‘are you married’, etc.

My scoutmaster from my childhood Boy Scout days was the ninth son of Orthodox Jewish immigrants from Hungary, who owned and ran their own farm outside Scranton Pennsylvania. He grew up as a hard working, farm laboring farm boy to become, as an adult, a construction foreman for a steel yard in Queens New York. He and his Jewish wife kept Kashrus and Shabbos. He wore a yarmulke at meals and always recited a brocha at the table.

I have three university degrees (none doctoral) and work in a university-based biomedical research lab. My Indian boss, and his Indian wife and research staff enjoy laughing at my ‘lack of status’ and claim that Judaism obtained its theological content from Hinduism.Schvachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07052885350566210171noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32118121.post-26557402313681835132010-03-14T19:29:52.774+02:002010-03-14T19:29:52.774+02:00Rich man, poor man, beggar man, thief.Rich man, poor man, beggar man, thief.Schvachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07052885350566210171noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32118121.post-59510820097842763902010-03-08T14:49:35.067+02:002010-03-08T14:49:35.067+02:00Good job.
