Background: On January 4, 2001 (more than 8 years ago) the FBI seized property with an 18-wheeler truck from the Hatikvah Jewish Identity Center at 1090 Coney Island Ave Brooklyn NY. The reason for the original seizure was a terrorism related investigation into Kach and Kahane Chai.

Now, nine years later the FBI is returning the material. No charges of any kind were brought as a result of this investigation.

The Hatikvah Jewish Identity Center was forced to close in part due to this large seizure of all of its material which included Books, tapes, computers, magazines and office equipment.

  1. Ironically enough, many of those tapes/books warned of impending terror attack by Islamic terrorists on U.S. soil (which was considered hate speech of course).

9 months, and 1 week later, that's exactly what happened. Imagine that.

I actually knew [self-censored name] pretty well. Although I have no idea on whether or not he actually did the things that the FBI accused him of (it was certainly not out of the realm of possibilities), the one thing I know for sure is that he didn't kill himself in prison.

He wasn't overtly religious per se, but he was definitely observant enough not to commit suicide as the official report stated.

Him and I had more than one verbal spar over the right way to do things over the years, but I will say for sure that he would never have killed himself.

I think the White Power boys or Nation of Islam killed him--but then again, he had a lot of enemies, so the possibilities are endless.

Sorry, kind of off the subject a little, but it just reminded me of that whole situation.

  2. I agree. The guy was definitely off his rocker. In my personal interactions with him he always appeared to be drunk; and his attitude, both in person and in email, was such that I tried to minimise our interaction because I got a very bad vibe from him, like from a dangerous animal. So I'm not exactly a fan. But I don't believe for a second that he killed himself. That story just made no sense at all. He slashed his own throat and then jumped off a balcony?! Maybe the FBI themselves killed him, perhaps by accident; but more likely he was killed by other prisoners and the FBI made up a story to cover up their negligence.
