Granting Palestinians Jordanian Citizenship Will Never Work

YNET: Jordan Part of the Solution
Op-ed: Israeli-Palestinian conflict can be solved when West Bank's Arab residents regain their Jordanian citizenship

Guy Bechor, January 3, 2014

...The Arab residents of Judea and Samaria will get their Jordanian citizenship back, and Jordan will oversee the civil life in Area A. The IDF will remain militarily in charge of all Judea and Samaria territories, in coordination with the Jordanians, with whom we have a peace agreement, and all the settlement will naturally stay put. The Arabs in Judea and Samaria will vote for the Jordanian parliament, and their passports will be Jordanian. The Jerusalem issue will also be solved quickly, as Israel is committed in the peace treaty with Jordan to giving the kingdom a "special status" in Jerusalem's holy sites.

Israel will be interested in this arrangement, between shopkeepers and shopkeepers. The Palestinians will be happy, as they are being given a desired citizenship, second in its prestige to the Israeli one, and Jordan will be satisfied too. A Palestinian state, which within a short while will be filled with Salafis and al-Qaeda operatives, is a strategic threat to its security. The only one which won't be satisfied is the Palestinian Authority, which was invented out of nothing in Oslo. But it's not our job to worry about that authority....

Esser Agaroth (2¢):
No, Guy. This will not work.

Of course, none of your proposal would be acceptable according to halakhah (Jewish Law), the only litmus test which matters. However, I will hazard a guess that this reasoning was not in the forefront of your mind while writing this piece,...nor will it be in the future.

True, the Palestinian Authority "was invented out of nothing in Oslo." But, perhaps you have forgotten that the Kingdom of Jordan was also created out of nothing, because the Hashemite cousins of the Saudi Arabian royal family had a tantrum about receiving their piece of the pie.

This is why I do not usually have a problem with the use of the term West Bank, in reference to Yehudah and Shomron (Judea and Samaria), because the East Bank belongs to us, too (See map above).

Over the last several years, we have seen just how "stable" Jordan is. The only question that remains is when Jordan will fall to Islamic extremists, before or after Turkey. Jordan's current King Abdullah II did make a smart move by making a "Palestinian" his future queen. Perhaps he thought that would be a more effective strategy than his father's massacre of 3,000 "Palestinians," in keeping 90 percent of his kingdom's population under control.

The Jordanians do not want anymore of these people over which to have responsibility, just like Egyptian President Sadat refused to take responsibility for the Gazan side of Rafi'ah, not to mention for Yassar Arafat ysh"w. King Abdullah's Kuwaiti born wife must have come from a prominent family, since the working-class "Palestinians" were thrown out of Kuwait, for being trouble-making supporters of Saddam Hussein.

See? Jordan, Egypt, Kuwait, not to mention other Arab states are not int he least bit interested in the welfare of the "Palestinians," except for when then can use them to their own ends.

This is why granting "Palestinians" Jordanian Citizenship will never work.
