Why Do IDF Soldiers Die?

י"ב לחודש האחד עשר תשע"ה

The following comment was submitted to my post Israel's Northern Border: What the Hell is Going On?

No, I have no intention of posting this individual's name.

I will hazard a guess that this individual is unaware that it is forbidden to identify the, not already public, source of such words, which could make this person look bad, even if proud of such statements, cause embarrassment, particularly in the public eye, and even more so, if this individual is a tinoq shenishbah.
you must be a complete moron when mentionning that the tefilin remained unscathed at the same time that two of our soldiers were murdered and 7 other hurt ! Send your G-d to be on Hezbollhs side for a while ! He's not of much help on ours!!!!
A "moron," huh?

Very odd that this word was chosen, because if you identify as I believe you might identify, as a "Secular Zionist," then your own perspective is based on an "oxymoron."

The only, I repeat, only, justification for a Jewish claim to Eretz Yisra'el is because God says so, as transmitted to us through His Holy Torah. Not history, not who was here first, not because of any resolutions by foreign entities such as the UN (United Nothings), nor any other tool of The Almighty's hand.

There are countless reasons why these soldiers might have been killed.
Their missions on this earth had been completed.

They were Tzadiqim, and The Holy One, Blessed Be He, wanted them to be close him, and relieved of the burdens of This World, and so He took them in a the blink of an eye, without any suffering.

They were given the opportunity to be to atone for their sins through self-sacrifice.

Part of giving the Jewish People a wake-up call to do teshuvah and to stop doing such half hearted jobs in the battles against those who would annihilate us.

Perhaps their sacrifices prevented countless other Jewish lives from being lost, and this will not be revealed to us until far into the future, if ever.

Or, you know what? Maybe they were set up? Maybe they were sacrificed by the powers that be in the, consistently proven to fail, strategy of attempting to garner sympathy from the West? Why wasn't their vehicle an armored one, even though they were on high alert along the border? An "honest" mistake? A stupid mistake?
My guess is that none of these answers will be sufficient for you.

But, you know what I personally think the answer is?

I will tell you what my rabbi and teacher told me, when I asked him why I was not killed in a suicide bomb attack, even though I was very close to the bomb. Instead, a 5 year old, a 17 year old, and a 19 year old were killed.

He said that we do not know what occurs in the celestial spheres. We do not know why one person is taken from This World, and another is not.

Well, I do not need to call you any names, because you, yourself, can look up your own name to call one who thinks he knows better than God.

Good luck to you. You'll need it.

Tradition suggests that non-Torah-observant Jews and non-Jews are more subject to that which is written in the heavens, in the mazaloth, than those who at least attempt to learn, discover, and do their best to do The Almighty's Will.

    - AbY: It's interesting that you should say so, because right yesterday I posted a Rabbi Mizrachi clip on my blog, that says the exact same thing, i.e. the very strong connection between the Torah and the Land. You can watch it here: http://thetorahrevolution.blogspot.co.il/2015/01/bh-rabbi-mizrachi-on-connection-between.html. Unexpectedly, I recieved the following comment: "Rabbi Mizrachi has obviously never seen the Midrash. The Prophet Ezekiel, in one of his prophecies of our return to our Land, quotes God's words: "The House of Israel dwell on their Land - and they have defiled it with their ways and with their bad deeds" (Ezekiel 36:17). The Midrash expounds: "God says: If only the sons of My nation would be in the Land of Israel, even thugh they defile it!" (Yalkut Shimoni, Lamentations 1038)". Now, I don't have immediate access to the Midrash, but I checked out the prophecies bought down and it is clear that there is nothing there to justify such a sharp criticism, quite the opposite, the prophets Jeremiah and Ezekiel are mad at the Children of Israel because of their grave sins. So to cut a long story short, it is extremely disheartening to see otherwise learned and knowledgable people sooo wrong. In fact I don't understand this.

  2. Unfortunately, people just try to fit sources in with their pre-existing points of view.

Then they accuse me of doing the same thing. :-/

Regardless of the time of the compilation of this work, and how apply (or do not apply) midrash aggadata to determining halakhah, and regardless of Ezeqiel 36 (the haftarah for the upcoming Parashath Parah) being all about how HaShem will bring us back to the Land, for the sake of His own Name, I agree that your commenter's source doesn't do the job he thinks that it is supposed to.
