אירוע חריג התרחש בסוף השבוע האחרון בסן פרנסיסקו, כאשר סקוט וינר, המכהן כסנטור של מדינת קליפורניה נאלץ להימלט ממצעד הטרנסג'נדרים המקומי, לאחר שהותקף מילולית על ידי המון זועם. וינר, המועמד להחליף את ננסי פלוסי בקונגרס, ספג קריאות גנאי וגידופים מצד המשתתפים בשל עמדותיו בנושא ישראל והמלחמה בעזה.

תיעוד האירוע, שהופץ ברשתות החברתיות על ידי פעיל פוליטי בשם דמיטרי יקושקין, הפך לוויראלי וצבר מיליוני צפיות. בסרטון נראה וינר פוסע בפארק דולורס בדרכו לתפילת שבת, בעוד עשרות מפגינים מקיפים אותו, מניפים אצבעות משולשות וצועקים לעברו קריאות פוגעניות. "זה מבאס, כי היית נפלא עבור קהילת הטרנסג'נדרים, אבל היית נורא בנושא עזה", הטיח בו אחד הנוכחים....

זה נכון שקהילות להט"ב בארץ מבינים את המצב יותר מלהט"ב שבחו״ל.

קהילות להט"ב המיעוטים המיניים בארה"ב עדיין לא מבינות את מה שקורה במדינות מוסלמיות. חבריהן לא היו שורדים אפילו שנייה באזור בשליטת חמאס. הן לא היו שורדים אפילו שנייה באזור בשליטת פתח! (המפלגה המרכזית ברשות הפלסטינית [הרש"פ]).

הסנטור סקוט וינר סולק מאירוע של טרנסג'נדרים. נראה לי שאם שואלים את המשתתפים באירוע זה האם ידעת שישראל מעניקה מקלט פוליטי לאנשים טרנסג'נדרים שבורחים מהרשות הפלסטינית, הם היו עונים ״לא״ או שטוענים שהמדיניות הזו של מדינת ישראל היא שקר.

שנזכר כאן מתן מקלט לאנשים טרנסג'נדרים לא אומר שאני מסכים עם מדיניות זו. אני פשוט כותב שזו קיימת. אני למעשה מטיל ספק במתן מקלט לכל נכרי בארץ ישראל, שנאמר "לא תחנם" (דברים ז,ב).

לא משנה מה דעתכם על המוניטין של ישראל כמדינה הידידותית ביותר ללהט"ב במזרח התיכון, מדינות מוסלמיות נוהגות את ההפך הקיצוני.

למרות התמונה להלן, ערב הסעודית ידועה בכך שהיא זורקת גברים הומואים מגגות בניינים.

איראן ידועה בכך שהיא שולחת גברים הומואים לעבור ניתוח שינוי מגדר בכפייה. כלומר סירוס כפוי וטיפול הורמונלי חלופי, מתוך אמונה שהגברים האלה הוכנסו לגוף הלא נכון. האמונה שאלוהיהם יכולים לעשות טעויות כאלה היא שיחה אחרת לגמרי לפעם אחרת.

וכמו במדינות מוסלמיות רבות, ברש"פ יש מקרים של רצח על חילול כבוד במשפחה של נשים, אנשים טרנסג'נדרים, ולמרות פעילות מין הידועה של הרבה גברים ערבים*, יש מקרי רצח כבוד גם של גברים הומואים.

בשנת 2014, יהודים נעצרו, נשפטו והורשעו ברצח מוחמד אבו ח׳דיר. סימון בשלוש אצבעות שלו בתמונה יכולה לייצג תנועות למען הדמוקרטיה. אבל בישראל, זה היה סמל ידוע ברשתות החברתיות, המייצג את ,תמיכה לחטיפה ורצח של שלושת הנערים בגוש עציון הי״ד.

יש הרבה מאמינים שהווידויים של היהודים נכפו, ולמעשה אבו ח׳דיר נרצח על ידי ערבים בשל היותו הומו.

הרבה שואלים למה מנסים לשכנע את קהילות של יהודים שבשוליים?

למה לא?

אין שום קשר לדעות שלי לגבי הפעולות שלהם בישראל, כמו ומצעדי גאווה. אני מתנגד.

דבר אחד לפרסם ולהציע דרכים לקבל תמיכה באלו הנאבקים בפנים מבחינה פסיכולוגית ורוחנית. עוד דבר לספק נראות חיוביות כדי לאפשר לבני נוער מדוכאים, ואפילו אובדניים, שהם לא לבד ושיש להם תקווה. דבר אחר לגמרי לעודד, אפילו להתגאות, במעשים אסורים על פי התורה.

ולכן אין הפתעה שיש יהודים מסוימים קוראים למצעדת גאווה ״מצעדת מרד״, ובמיוחד בירושלים.

הערה: אני לא מתנגד למחאות להט"ב נגד טיפולי המרה מסורתיים, מכיוון שאני מאמין שהם שטויות.

אני אומר את אותו הדבר ליהודים ימניים וליהודים שמאלניים, ליהודים דתיים וליהודים חילונים בחו״ל. ארץ ישראל היא מולדתכם האמיתית היחידה. האם ביקרתם כאן, או ניסיתם לגור כאן, אבל לא הצלחתם? ולא אהבתם איך הדברים פועלים כאן? האם אתם מאמינים למה שאתם שומעים בחדשות וצופים ברשתות החברתיות, ולא אוהבים את זה?

אז אלה האתגרים שעליכם להתגבר עליהם. אל תצפו ששום דברים ישתנו בן לילה אחד, אלא אם כן תעלו למטוס, תעלו (או חזרו) לארץ ישראל, תשתתפו ותעשו את חלקכם.

וזה אמור לענות על השאלה שלכם למה אכפת לי. יהודים מוטעים לא יהודים פחות מכולנו, וגם לא פחות ראויים להשקעה שלנו.

California state Sen. Scott Wiener, D-San Francisco, said he was forced to leave San Francisco's Trans March at Dolores Park on Friday after demonstrators confronted him over Israel and Gaza, in a viral episode that unfolded as [San Francisco] Pride Weekend began.

The video showed several people surrounding Wiener as he walked through the park, with multiple hecklers shouting profanity-laced messages.

"We f---ing hate you!"

Dimitry Yakoushkin, who posted the clip to X, could be heard criticizing Wiener’s position on the war in Gaza as the Democratic lawmaker moved away from the crowd....

LGBTQs The so-called sexual minority communities in the US still don’t get it. They wouldn’t survive a second in a Hamas controlled area. They wouldn’t survive a second in a Fatah controlled area! Fatah is the mainstream political party in the Palestinian Authority [PA]

The event from which State Sen. Scott Wiener was a trans event. I would imagine that if you ask any on the participants if they knew of Israel providing political asylum to transgender individuals, fleeing the PA, the answer would either be no, or met with accusations of making such a thing up.

The mention of granting asylum to transgender individuals should not suggest any agreement with this policy of the State of Israel on my part. I am simply mentioning it. I actually question the granting of asylum to any non-Jews within the Land of Israel, as it says "Do not have mercy" (Deut. 7:2). 

This should also not suggest any support on my part for any of these communities. I say communities, plural, as they are not nearly as cohesive, as we are led to believe in the mainstream media.

However you feel about Israel's reputation for being the most LGBT-friendly country in the Middle East, Muslim go too far in the opposite direction.

In spite of the meme depicted here, Saudi Arabia is known for throwing gay men off of roofs.

Iran is known for the forced gender-reassignment of gay men. To be clear, this means forced castration, and hormone replacement therapy [HRT], believing that these men were put into the wrong body. Their belief that their deity can make such mistakes is a whole other conversation for another time.

And, as in many Muslim countries, in the PA, there are incidents of honor killings, of women, transgendered individuals, and, despite the sexual indiscriminateness of many Arab men, gay men.*

In 2014, Jews were arrested, tried, and convicted for the murder of Mohamed Abu Khdeir. The three finger salute can represent pro-democracy movements. However, in Israel, it was a known symbol going around social media, representing Arab support for the kidnapping and murder of the three boys in Gush Etzion hy"d.

Many believe that the Jews' confessions were coerced, and that Abu Khdeir was actually killed by Arabs for being gay.

Many will ask why bother trying to convince these fringe communities of Jews? Why shouldn't we?

This has nothing to do with my objections to the actions of these communities in Israel, such as pride festivals.

It is one thing to publicize and offer support for those who are struggling psychologically and spiritually. It is another to provide positive visibility to let depressed, and even suicidal teenagers they are not alone and can find help. It is another one completely to encourage, even take "pride" in, engaging in behavior, forbidden by the Torah.

It is no wonder that some Jews refer to pride celebrations as festivals of rebellion, especially within the Holy City of Jerusalem.

Note: I do not mind LGBT protests against traditional conversion therapy, since I believe it to be a load of crap.

I tell right-wing Jews and left-wing Jews, religious Jews and secular Jews the same thing. The Land of Israel is your only, true homeland. Have you visited, or tried living here, but couldn't make it? Did you not like how things operated? Do you believe what you hear in the news and see on social media, and don't like it?

Well, then these are your challenges to overcome. Do not expect anything to change over night, unless you get on the plane, relocate, pitch in, and do your part.

And that should answer your question as to why bother. Misguided and misled Jews are not any less Jewish than any of us, nor less deserving of our investment.

Anyone else tired of all those "Zionist" social media influencers, who not only do not actually reside in Israel, but also have absolutely no intention of ever doing so?

Well, one of their usual targets is Neturei Karta*, the so-called anti-Zionist, ultra-orthodox community.

Yes, Neturei Karta have got it wrong. Yes, they are misguided.

• No, they should not be supporting the non-existent Pseudostinian People.
• No, they should not be supporting Muslim access to, and prayer on, the Temple Mount.
• No, they should not be protesting other Jews in public.

But, neither should you. They are still Jews. Why sink to their level, by taunting and teasing them?

Furthermore, with all of their flaws, they are still more Zionist than you.

How so?

Like you, they believe that the Land of Israel is the homeland of the Jewish People. 

• Just not right now.
• Just not this way.
• And just not by the methods and actions of these [anti-Torah] people.

They believe that since The Almighty directly exiled us from our homeland, only He can bring us back directly, through His Mashi'ah (messiah).

It is important to emphasize that the State of Israel and the current regime in Israel are not synonymous with the Land of Israel.

Certainly, I believe in a different approach, the Zionist one. We need to make our own, personal effort to return to our homeland, and to be active participants in settling and defending it.

However, their perspective includes another element with which I definitely agree: The exile is a punishment.

Countess Jews in the U. S. and elsewhere in the West, have forgotten this.

If you truly thought that the Land of Israel was the homeland of the Jewish People, then you would be living here like many of them.

Incidentally, Neturei Karta was founded... [wait for it]... in Jerusalem.

האם אנחנו באמת קראנו את מה שקראנו? הברית החדשה? זה ספר הקודש של הנוצרים. למה בנט או מישהו בצוותו משתמש במילים האלה?

Did we really just read what we read? New Convenant? The Hebrew above is even more telling, and is less excusable. ברית חדשה brith hadashah is Hebrew for... [wait for it] the Christians' New Testament.

So, was this an error? Or is someone getting fired? Well, the Hebrew article is from just over a year ago. So, either they know the implications of this name, don't care, or are exploiting it. Or they are really are that stupid.

Please keep in mind that English is Naftali Bennett's first language, and the Yair Lapid spent much of his childhood back and forth between London, England, and Israel. Many still do not know just how good Lapid's English is.

The stupidity argument does not hold water.

Was this some kind of signal to Bennett's Christian friends? As Minister of Education, Naftali Bennett supported Christian influencer Heather Johnston's leadership training program in Ariel. Ariel may be a city in Samaria, but has also been a base associated with Christian activities in Israel. The "messianic" Ortiz family resided in Ariel, and members of the Waller family of Hayovel and Israel Guys fame have been headquartered there.

Education seems to be a focus of Bennett's campaign for prime minister. Bennett has jumped on the anti-Haredi (ultra-orthodox) bandwagon, and has once again aligned himself with a notable anti-Torah politician, son of the late anti-Torah journalist, turned politician, Yosef "Tommy" Lapid.

Bennett's plan includes higher educational standards, crackdown on 'ultra-Orthodox state'

“We will dismantle the ultra-Orthodox state within a state and build one Jewish, democratic, prosperous, and strong state.” he said.

This is all highly reminiscent of the "re-education" code word used by the government in 2013 to go after the Hilltop Youth.

In 2016, that same former Minster of [Re-] Education Shai Piron (Lapid's Yesh Atid Party) praised Bennett for his proposed "culture reforms." Culture reforms is code for Torah = bad, Western style academia = good.

The code phrase "Jewish Democracy" can signify any number of possibilities: Confusion over what is Jewish and what is an artifact of our Western exile, an erasure of any non-Western elements of Jewish, or simply a ploy to entice Jews away from authentic Torah-life. Democracy is, after all, a Greek concept, not a Jewish one.

Do not the religious supporters of Democracy pray three times per day for the return of the Kingdom of David? Kingdom, not democracy?

Make it make sense.

Add all of these symptoms together, and we get the Haskalah "Jewish Enlightenment" -- anti-Torah -- Movement (c. 1770 - 1880). Only this time it's worse, because Bennett is trying to convince us that his path for us is a Jewish one, by putting a kippah (Jewish head covering) on it. 

Well,... sort of.

בצה"ל הגיבו הערב (רביעי) לראשונה למכתב ראשי ישיבות ההסדר שהודיעו כי לא יאפשרו את גיוס תלמידיהם לחיל השריון בעקבות פיילוט שילוב הנשים. "בכלל האפשרויות הנבחנות בפיילוט לא קיימת חלופה בה עתיד להתקיים שירות משותף של גברים ונשים באותה המסגרת", מסרו בצבא. בשלב זה לא ברור כיצד הפיילוט בכל זאת ייצא לפועל, חמישה חודשים לפני המועד שנקבע בבג"ץ.

האם אנו מאמינים בהיפוך הזה של הבנת מדיניות צה"ל?

ברור שלא.

עברנו את זה שוב ושוב. "זו רק 'תוכנית פיילוט'".

פירוש: תפסתם אותנו. אז עכשיו אנחנו צריכים להיות אפילו יותר ערמומיים כדי להשיג את המטרה שלנו להטמיע את החיילים הדתיים יותר בקהילת הציונים הדתיים, בחברה הישראלית חילונית.

בנוסף, הבג״ץ מעורב בעניין, וקובע מה זאת אומרת החברה הישראלית. נראה שהוא הפך להיות אסטרטגי יותר, מאז פסקי דיניו הבולטים בענייני תורה כגון מה כשר, מי יהודי, וגיור.

רבים מתלמידי ישיבות ההסדר הללו כבר נמנים עם הנאמנים ביותר למדינה. אך הם המטרה הנוכחית של הערב רב. המצב לא היה ככה לפני כ-20 שנה.

בשנת תשס״ה/2005, תוך סיכון מהפסדת המשכורות, תפקידי עבודה, ותקציבים שלהם, רבני ישיבת חדר חתמו על מכתב המורה לתלמידים לא לציית לפקודות כלשהן לגרש יהודים מבתיהם ושטחיהם. אך רבנים אלה היו ממחנה הציונים הדתיים שמכירים בכך שבכל פעם שחוק מדינת הישראל סותר את חוקי התורה, התורה קודמת. רבנים אלה נודעו כ״התורנים״.

רוב רבני הציונות הדתית באותה תקופה תמכו בציות לפקודות, גם אם התנגדו באופן עקרוני לגירוש יהודים מעזה עצמו. חלקם טענו כי סירוב לפקודות עלול להרוס את מבנה הפיקוד של צה"ל, ובכך לסכן את המדינה ואת עמה.

אך בדרגות שונות, רוב הרבנים אלה האמינו כי או שאין למעשה סתירה בין תורה למדינה, או שהתמונה הגדולה דורשת סבלנות מצד כולם כדי להשיג את המטרה הסופית למרות שחוסר להם חזון על מה זאת אומרת. לרבנים אלה נודעו כ״הממלכתיים״, כלומר נאמני המדינה.

יש טוענים שמונחים אלה היו ידועים בעיקר באזור ירושלים, שם מקורם.

בימים אלה, יש רצף גדול ומורכב יותר בין שני המחנות. למשל המתנחלים המסורים של המאחזים החדשים מגונים ומבודדים יותר ויותר, לפחות על ידי תקשורת המרכזית.

אבל אחרי הכתבה לעיל, קיבלנו בשורות טובות.

פירוש: איך יכול להיות שהרבנים האלה מעזים לפרסם תלונותם בפומבי ולא להתלונן באמצעות משרד הממשלה?! ודקווא כשהם מבקרים את הממשלה?! וכן צה"ל הוא אגף של הממשלה.

למרות היהודים, בעיקר הממלכתים, שחוששים מחילוקי דעות כאלה בין רבנים שיופצו בפומבי, אפילו נבהלים על כך, אני מברך על כך.

הבה נהיה מודעים לדיונים על מהי ההלכה, בהנחה שזה מה שהרבנים האלה דנים בו, ולא דנים באסטרטגיה, תוך המנעות מכל חילוקי דעות פומביים על איך להבין את התורה מול מדינת ישראל.

בשנת תשס״ה/2005 לקראת גירוש היהודים מעזה ומצפון השומרון, מנהיגי צה"ל שמר את הצנחנים, הגבעתי, ונח"ל חרדי (נצח יהודה של היום) רחוקים מהפעולות, בידיעה טובה שרבים מהחיילים הללו מוכנים לסרב לפקודות להשתתף בהן. חלק מראשי הגדודים אפילו הכריזו שחייליהם לא ישתתפו. בסופו של דבר רק 62 חיילים ישבו בכלא בשל סירוב פקודות. לכן, יש מצב שרבני ההסדר המתנגדים לשירות מעורב בטנקים עשויים להשפיע. אבל, כפי שאני מציע לעיל, נראה ש אין לישיבות ההסדר את אותה השקפת התורה קפדנית כמו שהיתה להן לפני 20 שנה.

מצד שני, הרב צבי טאו מישיבת הר המור, וממנהיגי הממלכתיים, שינה את דעתו לאורך השנים כלפי צה״ל. בעבר, הוא התנגד בתוקף לסירוב פקודות של חיילי צה"ל חשבו שסותרות את התורה. היום הרב הופך לביקורתי יותר ויותר כלפי צה"ל. הרב בחזית המאבק נגד יחידות מעורבות, שלא לדבר על השתתפות הכפויה של חיילים זכרים בפעילויות הכוללות שירה וריקוד, על ידי חיילות.

היום השאלה היא כמה השפעה עדיין יש לרב טאו? או ליתר דיוק, כמה השפעה מותרת לו.

וגם בשנת תשס״ה/2005, הרב אברהם שפירא זצ"ל ראש הישיבה הדגלית של הציונות הדתית מרכז הרב קוק הורה לתלמידיו לדחות את לימודי התורה בבית המדרש, ולצאת ולמחות על גירוש יהודי עזה וצפון השומון הצפוי.

היום אם חיילים מהציונות הדתית ייצאו למחאות נגד מדיניות צה"ל יהיה מדהים.

בערך באותו זמן למחאות לקראת הגירוש, הרב אליצור סג״ל כתב גילוי דעה ובו ביקר על שתיקת הרבנות הראשית לצה"ל בנוגע לגירוש הצפוי בידי צה"ל, על הזנות בצה"ל, על הדאגה לחיי לוחמי האויב יותר מחיי החיילים. שנים לאחר מכן, הרב סג״ל יקבל עונש על דבריו.

פירוש: איך הרב מעז לבקר את הרבנות הראשית הקדושה לצה"ל!

מה אתם חושבים אם נראה בחדשות מחאות נגד הפשרה הכפויה של צה"ל על עקרונות התורה? ומה אם מחאות האלה יתקיימו על ידי נוער ציוני דתי עם נוער חרדי יחד?

משהו יפה שנשמח לראות.

Following a letter from hesder yeshiva rabbis, who announced they would not send their students to the Armored Corps due to the recruitment of female combat soldiers, the IDF Spokesperson stated that "after approximately two and a half years of intense war, the burden on the reserves system has significantly increased - the IDF needs every male and female soldier. As the people's army, the IDF sees supreme importance in integrating all populations. The High Court of Justice did not instruct to recruit female soldiers to the Armored Corps, but rather instructed to conduct the planned pilot program on the matter." According to the statement, "The pilot program constitutes an initial trial for examination going forward. Among all options being examined, there is no alternative in which joint service of men and women will take place in the same framework."

Do we believe this gobbligook of a backtracking?

Of course we don't.

We have seen this time and time again. "It's only a 'pilot program.'"

Translation: You caught us. So, now we have to be even sneakier to achieve our objective to assimilate the more religious, Religious Zionist soldiers into mainstream, Israeli society.

To top it off, the Israeli Supreme Court is involved, dictating what Israeli society is supposed to look like. It seems to have become more strategic, though, since its highly publicized interventions in Torah matters such as what is kosher, who is a Jew, and conversion to Judaism.

Many of these Hesder students are already among the most loyal to the State. Yet they are being targeted anyone. This was not the case 20 years ago.

In 2005, risking their own salaries, jobs, and budgets, Heder Yeshiva rabbis signed a letter instructing students not to follow any orders to remove Jews from their homes and lands. But these rabbis were of the camp of Religious Zionists who recognized that anytime Israeli State law contradicts Torah Law, the Torah takes precedence. These rabbis were known as the Toranim.

The majority of Religious Zionist rabbis at the time supported the following of orders, even if they were against the removal of Jews from their homes in principle. Some claimed that refusing orders had the potential to destroy the IDF command structure, thus putting the State and its people in danger.

But for the most part, to varying degrees, these rabbis believed that either there is not actually any conflict between Torah and State, or that the larger picture demanded patience on everybody's part. These rabbis were known as the Mamlakhitim, roughly translated as "statists." Although many claim that these terms Toranim and Mamlakhtim were known mostly in the Jerusalem area, where they originated.

These days, there is more of a continuum between the two camps, with the dedicated settlers of new hilltop communities becoming increasingly demonized and isolated, at least in the mainstream media.

The next day, we received good news.

Following the 'Rabbis' Letter' opposing yeshiva students' service in the Armor Corps due to the High Court's decision to integrate female combat soldiers, the Hesder Yeshiva Union clarified in an official letter that the union's council is in 'ongoing dialogue with the IDF' and that yeshiva heads are 'making every effort to enable the enlistment of yeshiva students in the Armor Corps this coming August.' The letter was sent to all Hesder yeshiva heads and signed by members of the union's council. The rabbis wrote that 'the letter published in the media in recent days regarding enlistment in the Armor Corps is not a letter from the council, the issuance of such a letter contradicts our position.'

Translation: How dare these rabbis not go through official government channels when... criticizing the government. that is, if we presume that the IDF is a branch of the government. Hint: It is.

While some Jews, from my experience, mostly those Mamlakhtim, are afraid of such disagreements between rabbis aired in pubic, even panic hen this occurs, I welcome it. Let us be privy to the discussions of what the halakhah (Torah law) is, assuming that is what these rabbis are discussing, and not discussing strategy, while avoiding any public disagreement of how to understand the Torah vis-a-vis the State of Israel, a traditionally sensitive issue. Well, it's only sensitive to those who fail to adequately back up their positions with legitimate, and relevant sources. Those who do, have nothing to worry about.

The IDF kept Tzanhanim (paratroopers), Givati (infantry), and Nahal Haredi (ultra-orthodox brigade) far from Gaza and Northern Samaria, knowing full well that many of these soldiers would refuse orders. Some battalion heads already declared their soldiers would not be participation. Only 62 soldiers ended up sitting in jail for refusing orders. So, in theory, the Hesder rabbis opposing mixed service in tank might have influence. But, as I suggested above, it seems that Hesder yeshivas do not have the same, strict Torah perspective as 20 years ago.

On the other hand, Rabbi Tzvi Tau of the Har HaMor Yeshivah, and leader among the Mamlakhtim has changed his tune over the years. Previously adamantly opposed to IDF soldiers refusing orders they believe to be counter to Torah principles, he has become increasingly critical of the IDF. He has been in the forefront in the fight against mixed gender units, not to mention the forced participation of male soldiers in activities featuring singing and dancing, female soldiers.

The question now is how much influence he still has, or rather, is allowed to have.

In 2005, the flagship, Religious Zionist yeshiva Merkaz HaRav Kook, under the leadership of Rabbi Avraham Shapira ztz"l were instructed to set aside Torah study in the Beit Midrash, and go out and protest the pending expulsion of Jews from Gaza.

Wouldn't it be something if Religious Zionist soldiers protested IDF policies today?

Around the same time as the protests, Rabbi Eliyahu Segel publicly criticized the silence of the IDF Chief Rabbinate, regarding the pending expulsion at the hands of the IDF, the promiscuity in the IDF, the concern over the lives of enemy combatants over the lives of soldiers. Years later, Rabbi Segel would be sanctioned for his words.

Translation: How dare he criticize the holy, IDF Chief Rabbinate!

What if the next thing we saw in the news were protests against the IDF's forced compromise of Torah principles? What if these protests were carried out by Religious Zionist and Haredi youth together.

Now, wouldn't that be something?

האוטובוס מצפת לבני ברק ורמת גן היה אמור לצאת מהתחנה המרכזית בשעה 11:40. הייתה תקלה כלשהי בדרך לתחנה. לפי הנוסעים שכבר עלו, הם נאלצו להמתין לאוטובוס חלופי. האוטובוס החלופי הגיע לתחנה בסביבות השעה 12:00, ואז עלינו. האוטובוס יצא ואסף עוד נוסעים לאורך הדרך בתוך העיר כמו רגיל. עם זאת, ברגע שהתקרבנו ליציאה מהעיר, הנהג הודיע לנו שיש איזה בעיה עם האוטובוס החלופי.

לאחר עצירה קצרה בדרך, כדי שהנהג יכל לתקשר, כנראה, עם המוקדן שלו - הוא דיבר ערבית - המשכנו לחניון של חברת האוטובוסים. כולנו ירדנו ועקבנו אחרי הנהג מאוטובוס לאוטובוס והסתכלנו כשהוא הוא בדק כל אחד אם הוא תקין. כל הזמן הזה הוא היה בשיחת טלפון, כנראה לקבל הוראות על איזה מהם לנסות בהמשך. הוא ניסה לפחות חמישה אוטובוסים. רובנו הפסקנו לעקוב אחריו, וחיכינו עד שהוא יבחר באחד. ואז עלינו עליו.

בסופו של דבר, יצאנו מהעיר. ואז הנהג עצר בתחנה בצומת צפת. חיכינו לאוטובוס חלופי נוסף. אבל, כשהגיע האוטובוס הרביעי, הדלת בצד ימין לתא המיטען לא היתה תקינה. בצד השמאלי כן. אבל זה נחשב מסוכן מדי עבור נוסעים מוציאים את המזוודות שלהם משם בלב בני ברק ההומה.ולכן, חיכינו לעוד אוטובוס חלופי.

בינתיים, כמה נוסעים ירדו מהאוטובוס, לאחר שסידרו תחבורה חלופית או פשוט ויתרו על הנסיעה.

בסופו של דבר יצאנו מצומת צפת לפחות שעה וחצי מאוחר לפי הלו״ז והגענו לאזור המרכז ללא עוד תקלות ב״ה.

בתחנת התרעננות, אני אמרתי לנהג שהוא נשאר רגוע לאורך כל הבלגן שעברנו. הוא אמר שעובד בסניף אחר של החברה, ושם הכל רגוע. לזה הוא רגיל.

תקלה אחת אפשר לסלוח. דבר כזה קורה. שתיים? אפשר לדבר על זה. אבל, הצורך בארבע החלפות באוטובוסים בדרך?

Is this the worst bus company in Israel?

The bus from Tzfat (Safed) to Bnei Braq and Ramat Gan (Tel Aviv suburbs) was supposed to leave the central bus station at 11:40. There was some sort of breakdown along the way. According to passengers who had already boarded, they had to wait for a replacement bus. The replacement bus, they were on, arrived at the station around 12:00, at which time those of us who were waiting boarded. The bus left the station, and picked up passengers along the way within the city. However, once we got close to leaving the city, the bus driver announced that there was a problem with the replacement bus.

After a short stop on the side of the road, for the driver to communicate, presumably, with his dispatcher -- he was speaking Arabic -- we made our way to the bus company's lot. We all got off the bus, and proceeded to follow the driver around from bus to bus, checking which one was operational. He was on the phone the entire time, presumably receiving instructions as to which one should work, and which one to try next. He tried at least five buses. Most of us stopped following him around, and just waited for him to settle upon one. He finally choice one. So, we boarded it.

I happened to notice that the man in the "service vehicle" was of no service whatsoever.

Immediately, complaints began over the hot air coming out of the vents. We waited for any improvement. There wasn't any. Some passengers were willing to continue on with the windows open. Others said it was dangerous with small children on the bus. I guess they would not have succeeded in suffering through the 104°F (40°C) summer days of my childhood without air conditioning.

In the end, we left the city. But not so fast. The driver stopped at Tzfat Junction. We waited for yet another replacement bus. But, when the fourth bus arrived, the door to the baggage compartment did not work on the right side. The left side worked. But this was determined to be too dangerous for when passengers needed to remove their baggages in the middle of bustling Bnei Braq. And so, we waited for another replacement bus.

In the meantime, several passengers disembarked, having arranged for alternative transportation or just given up.

We ended up leaving the Tzfat Junction at least an hour and a half behind schedule, but arrived at our destination without any more breakdowns or glitchs.

At the rest stop, I mentioned to the driver that he stayed calm throughout the fiasco. He said that works at a different branch, where everything is relaxed. That is what he is used to.

One breakdown can be forgiven. These things happen. Two is debateable. But, the need for four changes in buses?
