בשורה משמעותית לתושבי ירושלים: השר לביטחון לאומי, איתמר בן גביר, אישר עוד 41 שכונות בעיר כאזורי זכאות לרישיון נשק אישי, במסגרת המשך הרחבת רפורמת הנשק שמוביל השר.

ההחלטה מתקבלת בעיתוי ביטחוני רגיש במיוחד - בצל המלחמה ובמהלך חודש הרמדאן, מתוך תפיסה שנשק בידי אזרחים אחראים מהווה מרכיב חשוב בחיזוק הביטחון האישי וביכולת התגובה הראשונית לאירועי טרור ופשיעה.

ההחלטה התקבלה לאחר עבודת מטה ובחינה מקצועית של משטרת ישראל, וגורמי המקצוע באגף רישוי ופיקוח כלי יריה - אשר ניתחו את האתגרים הביטחוניים הייחודיים לבירה ואת צורכי הביטחון של התושבים.

בעקבות ההחלטה, למעלה מ-300,000 אזרחים נוספים המתגוררים בירושלים יהיו זכאים להגיש בקשה לרישיון נשק אישי ובכך להיכנס למעגל הזכאות לנשק.

מדובר במהלך משמעותי נוסף במסגרת הרפורמה שמוביל השר בן גביר לחיזוק הביטחון האישי של אזרחי ישראל...

כתבה זו מזכירה לי על מה שקראנו במגילת אסתר לפני שבוע בפורים.

אני לא טוען שבן גביר הוא מרדכי או שנתניהו הוא מרדכי. אלא אני פשוט מאיר את ההקבלה בין שני המקרים שבהם יהודים קיבלו רשות להגן על עצמם במהלך מתקפה מצד האימפריה הפרסית.

Significant news for Jerusalem residents: Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir has approved 41 more neighborhoods in the city as areas eligible for a personal firearms license, as part of the continued expansion of the firearms reform led by the minister.

The decision comes at a particularly sensitive security time - in the shadow of the war and during the month of Ramadan, based on the perception that weapons in the hands of responsible citizens constitute an important component in strengthening personal security and the ability to respond to terrorist and criminal incidents.

The decision was made after staff work and a professional review by the Israel Police, and the professionals in the Firearms Licensing and Supervision Division - who analyzed the unique security challenges of the capital and the security needs of the residents.

Following the decision, over 300,000 additional citizens living in Jerusalem will be eligible to apply for a personal firearms license and thus enter the circle of firearms eligibility.

This is another significant step within the framework of the reform led by Minister Ben-Gvir to strengthen the personal security of Israeli citizens...

This report reminds me of something from Megilath Esther (Scroll of Esther) we just read last week on Purim.

And they wrote in the name of King Ahasuerus, and sealed it with the king's ring, and sent letters by posts on horseback, riding on swift steeds that were used in the king's service, bred of the stud; that the king had granted the Jews that were in every city to gather themselves together, and to stand for their life, to destroy, and to slay, and to cause to perish, all the forces of the people and province that would assault them, their little ones and women, and to take the spoil of them for a prey, (Esther 8:10-11)

I am not suggesting that Ben-Gvir nor Netanyahu is Mordechai. I am only suggesting the parallel between the two incidents of Jews obtaining permission to actually defend themselves during an assault from the Persian Empire.
