High School Principal in Tel Aviv Attacks Young Man Putting on Tefillin (Phylacteries)

English follows the Hebrew.

Degani: Why are you doing this? Why are you doing this?
Young man: Don't touch me! Don't touch me!

Arutz 7: Students in Tel Aviv protest principal who prevented them from putting on Tefillin
MK Almog Cohen participated in protest after Herzliya Hebrew Gymnasium High School principal Dr. Ze'ev Degani was filmed preventing students from putting on Tefillin.

Itzik Brandwein, Jan 10, 2024 (via Going Home to Yerushalayim and cont. below)
Esser Agaroth (2¢):
In a video (screen shots above), Dr. Ze'ev Degani, the principal of the prestigious Gymansia Hertzliya High School in Tel-Aviv, attempts to stop a young man from putting on tefillin. Degani's raised arm in the screen shot is from the young man pushing his hand away from him.
He [Degani] berated Rabbi Zalman Hartman, a Chabad Hassid who was assisting the student with the ritual, "You are inciting students to rebel..."

...In a conversation with Chabad Info, Rabbi Hartman recounted: "I go to all of the high schools in northern Tel Aviv to put Tefillin on the teens and bring them closer to religion. I've seen reactions like the one from the principal of the Gymnasium (sic. Gymnasia Hertzliya H. S.) in every place, with a different connotation every time."
MK Almog Cohen
The next set of screen shots (video link) shows Israeli singer Kobi Peretz participating in the demonstration at the school's entrance, by assisting someone to put on tefillin. MK Almog Cohen (Otzmah Yehudit) also participated.
The students put on tefillin together with the Knesset member. "After October 7th, when Jews were murdered only because they were Jewish, there is no place to disrespect and disparage Jewish symbols," MK Cohen stated.
According to the Arutz 7 report, Education Minister Yoav Kisch (Likud) criticized Degani for neither acting morally nor in the spirit of education. However, he also said that he lacks any recourse against Degani, since he is not employed by the Ministry of Education, and the incident did not take place within the school setting, nor was illegal [according to Israeli law].

In an apparent counter-demonstration...
A woman tries to shove a pork sausage into the mouth of a religious (Orthodox Jewish) man who came to hand out tzitziyot to students who were protesting outside the Gymnasia Herzliya High School in Tel Aviv, after the principal violently kicked out a man from Chabad who had come to help young men put on tefillin. (see the tweet above)
This is reminiscent of the disgusting disruptions to the public prayers in Tel-Aviv this past Yom Kippur. However, in this case, this woman is trying to cause a Jew to sin, presumedly in the spirit of freedom of religious expression, of which only the opposite of this concept appears in the Torah.

So this is not the first time such a thing has happened. And I am afraid that this is not the last.

"The sin of this young man was that he stood at a table in Tel Aviv, putting tefillin (phylacteries) on people. Antisemitism! Shocking!"
Esser Agaroth (2¢):
My comment on the tweet:

We must ask ourselves who this is. An Arab? A non-Jew who obtained Israeli citizenship through the ridiculous "Law of Return?" Or a Jewish who received a lousy education [of self-hatred]? And what can we do about this? ...except for requiring all Haredi (ultra-orthodox) to go through self-defense training...

May The Almighty help us!

Israeli Ultra-Orthodox Soldiers under Scrutiny Again

English follows the Hebrew.

Former MK Michael Ben-Ari: Our son is in a Netzah Yehudah infantry commander training course.
Hoping he's not aware of the lynch by the media he and his fellow soldiers are going through.

YNET: IDF suspends Haredi battalion troops over use of violence on Palestinians
Military chief calls incident 'severe,' says it contradicts IDF's values; adds Netzah Yehuda soldiers involved are not worthy of serving in a combat unit; Netzah Yehuda troops were involved in alleged mistreatment of Palestinians in the past
Yoav Zitun | 08.24.22
Esser Agaroth (2¢):
This report almost makes it seem like we have never head of such claims against units of secular soldiers. As far as the the leftist-controlled media is concerned, who is to say that this has not just been blown out of proportion for good propaganda-like measure? Oh, and what were the orders given to this battalion for such situations? And what were the rules of engagement laid down for this unit? Were they different from other units?

For years we have seen soldiers afraid to do their jobs to protect us, due to potential repercussions. It would not be the first time a soldier has been used as a scapegoat, in order to satisfy any outcry from Arabs, leftists, and the so-called international community, over the Israeli Defense Forces [IDF] trying to do their jobs.

As I have written previously, the State does not actually want Haredim (ultra-orthodox) in the IDF. It just wants an excuse to continue its incitement against them. The Haredi Draft Issue has Never Been About the Haredi Draft

Arabs continue to behave as Arabs always have, emboldened by the fact they know about IDF soldiers' fear of their own government and commanders throwing them under the bus.

As far as the Israeli government goes, it is trying to have its cake and eat it too.

Now, here it comes...
The IDF finds it difficult to regulate the status of the Haredi battalion. During their service, the Netzah Yehudah soldiers are forced to stay only in the West Bank area, as opposed to other battalions that perform a rotation that includes the Gaza Strip and Lebanon and Syria borders.
Is this a suggestion that radical changes need to be made, including a possible break-up of this battalion entirely? It is this being used as an excuse for the intense scrutiny from the mainstream leftist-controlled media?

The Hesder Yeshivah, learn and serve programs have been targets of attack for years now, while the diehard State loyalist pre-IDF Mechinot programs have fostered and praise.

But that's not all. The Hebrew version includes comments from one soldier who believes the soldiers yearn to become "full-fledged infantry battalion," able to implement all of their training they have been given in preparation again Hamas and Hezbollah.

I believe that the IDF would find it difficult to regulate Netzah Yehudah whether the battalion stayed in the same location or was rotated like the others. It would have expend a concerted effort to keep these Haredi soldiers segregated from other units. As I have written before, they wouldn't want to risk having secular soldiers see their fellow soldiers pray three times a day, put on tefillin (phylacteries), say grace after meals, modify their work behavior on Shabbat (the Sabbath), even while on duty. They certainly would not want secular soldiers to have the opportunity to ask burning questions  about Torah they have had all their lives.

And those soldiers from State Religious (mamlakhti) homes, many of whom are on track for leaving the IDF less religious than they were when they came in, if religious at all, would also be exposed to peers with greater faith than their own. to examples of Jews connecting their faith with their day to day lives, providing an opportunity for them to strengthen their own faith in The Almighty and His Torah, threatening the State's prime

I believe there is only one reason Haredi soldiers, as well as strict Religious Zionist soldiers, in the IDF: to make them not Haredi, or to at least lessen their attitude of stringency. We have all already heard of the attempts at breaking the Hesder yeshivah soldiers, by forcing them to listening to women sing and to watch them dance, against their religious sensibilities. If they do begin rotating them, then there will be an additional reason why they were taken into the army, additional canon fodder.

Recommendation for an Israeli Left-Wing Election Victory

English follows the Hebrew.

For those of you who want to enlist Haredim (utra-Orthodox) into the Israeli Defense Forces [IDF] (but who really don't want them in the army for fear of their influence on their sons)...

For those of you who expect religious soldiers to watch and listen to women sing and dance on stage...

For those of you who shout at the men who encourage Jews to put on tefillin...

For those who object to the building of a new yeshiva or mikveh (ritual immersion pool) in your neighborhood...

For those who oppose the construction of a new branch of the Ezra and Ariel youth movements in the neighborhood despite the growing religious sector in your town...

I have one recommendation for you:

Have more children.

If you truly believe in democracy, go and produce more children, so that someday you will be the majority who vote in elections, rather than the minority.

There are already more religious and traditional students than secular students in the first through fifth grades in Israel. Of course, by "traditional," I mean those who actually believe in the traditional version of the Torah, and not members of the co-called Conservative Movement. Theoretically, this means we could have a Knesset whose majority of members will be Religious Zionist and Haredi.in the not to distant future.

But I'm not sure you want a real democratic government system.

Instead, you prefer to increase your voter base through tricky strategies like the following:
  • Encouraging Ethiopian Christians to immigrate to Israel.
  • Working to provide foreign workers with a special status, and eventual permanent residency, if not citizenship.
  • Working to provide foreign workers with a special status, and eventual permanent residency, if not citizenship.
  • Working to establish civil marriage in Israel, allowing Israelis to "marry" non-Jews much more easily.
  • Providing these husbands and wives a way to receive Citizenship, which include the so-called Black [Fake] Hebrews who allow them to bring all the non-Jews from the United States they want to bring into Israel.
  • Fighting for "freedom of religious expression," calling it "pluralism," and benefiting Evangelical Christian "friends" of the quasi-right-wing.
  • Preaching "Co-Existence," with the eventuality of having a secular, democratic state, just like the goyim.
You have already tried this strategy of actively encouraging the immigration of non-Jews to Israel from the Former Soviet Union. But, many of them ended up voting for the Israel Our Home Party of Avigdor Lieberman, instead of left wing parties.

In addition, your favorite strategy seems to be cancelling, distorting, changing, and replacing the laws you don't like through the Israeli Supreme Court, in spite of the wishes of the people. (What do you care about the wishes of the people??) In this way, you maintain your position of power.

We haven't had a real democratic system of government in Israel for years, now, assuming we ever had one. We have had a deMOCKracy. And what does democracy have to do with Torah anyway?

There isn't one.

The Woman Attacking Tefillin in the Video is not the First

Video: Woman Laughs And Mocks Man Putting On Tefillin By Chabad At Ben Gurion Airport

Tomer Devorah reports:
Until now, we did not know who the woman was, but it is now being reported that she is "Prof. Pnina Peri, wife of Yoram Peri, a professor of sociology who served as president of the New Israel Fund between 1999-2001." She was on her way back to Maryland where she currently lives and teaches about pluralism and multiculturalism. (cont.)
Esser Agaroth (2¢):
Twenty years ago in Ramat Aviv Alef, a neighborhood in north Tel-Aviv, I remember oh so well the secular resident who shouted at the Chabbadnik standing at his tefillin table. And when Chabbad opened a yeshivah and even a mikveh (ritual immersion pool) in the neighborhood, well, let's just say that these were not welcomed with open arms. And at the time, there were seven synagogues in the neighborhood. It seems to me that they accepted (tolerated?) the presence of these synagogues, because these communities did not "push themselves" onto public, and also provided it with shofar-blowing at the end of Yom Kippur and Purim parties for the children, and they did not bother the neighbors.

With the opening of the Ramat Aviv Mall, also 20 years ago, a battle ensued between Ramat Aviv residents and the mall's owner. Local residents demanded that the owner keep the mall open on Shabbat, even though the mall was privately owned. Of course, they did not care that the mall owner was religious and kept Shabbat. But, eventually, the residents agreed to let the mall be closed on the Shabbat, when they realized that the traffic and noise would increase drastically if it were to stay open.

I also remember seeing mourning notices around the neighborhood, announcing that the "Secular Ramat Aviv" had died. It is OK for scantily-clad women to dress however they want, while walking through a Haredi (very religious) neighborhood. It is OK for a secular man to walk through a Haredi neighborhood on Shabbat while talking on his phone and smoking a cigarette, all because of democracy (deMOCKracy). But, it is not at all OK for a religious person to publicize Torah and mitzvot in a predominantly secular neighborhood. So much for Prof. Pnina Peri's "pluralism and multiculturalism."

Borrowing and adapting from George's Orwell's Animal Farm...
"All Jews are equal, but some Jews are more equal than others."
As many Jews have already written, I was not at all surprised to learn of Pninah Peri, the woman who  connection to the New Israel Fund.

Nor, am I at all surprised to learn that she lives outside of Eretz Yisra'el.

Why is Meir Ettinger Still in Jail?

Tablet: Let Meir Ettinger Attend His Son’s Bris
Meir Kahane’s grandson has been held under administrative arrest for more than seven months

Liel Leibovitz, March 30, 2016

The 25-year-old, who is the grandson of the slain rabbi Meir Kahane, was arrested by Israeli authorities more than seven months ago. He is allegedly suspected of playing a part in underground efforts to overthrow the government and establish halakhic rule in its stead. Despite the weight of the accusation, however, the state has, to date, produced no evidence to support its case, said Yuval Zemer, Ettinger’s attorney. Instead, it placed Ettinger under administrative arrest. A legacy of the British Mandate’s martial laws, this judicial tool, signed by Israel into law in 1979, allows the government to detain individuals for a period of six months, with three-month extensions thereafter for as long as is necessary, without presenting a suspect or his legal representatives with any concrete evidence of wrongdoing. Ettinger, then, remains under arrest, permitted only minimal contact with his lawyer and his family, and now, unless the government has a change of heart, denied partaking in his son’s bris as well. (cont.)
Esser Agaroth (2¢):
Of course, there's nothing to judge. He is in administrative detention for writing articles which the State does not like and feels threatened by.

Furthermore, how can any Jew who identifies as "Torah-observant," himself not also agree with the eventual implementation of Torah Law across Eretz Yisra'el (Land of Israel)? Does he not also pray three times per day for the Ge'ulah (Redemption), and coming of the Mashi'ah?

Doesn't "Religious Zionism assert that we are supposed to be a part of this process? And although prayer and Torah study are crucial, doesn't Religious Zionism encourage us to do more than this, as participants in the process? Are we to encourage aliyah (immigration of Jews to Israel), observance of Shabboth, kashruth, tefillin, and family purity, and that is it, even though this is only a portion of the Torah?

Aren't all Religious Zionists at supposed to be talking about the eventually spread of Torah throughout the Land, and its eventual place as the ultimate authority on all matters? Or have I gotten Religious Zionism all wrong, and most of those identifying as Religious Zionists are not really Religious Zionists at all, and are actually Mamlakhtim, those who believe that there is no conflict between State law and Torah Law?

In any event, on one side of this conflict, we have a Torah-observant Jew accused of encouraging the overthrow of the State's government, and on the other side, the anti-Torah State. Given the evidence, or in this case, the lack of evidence, who are we supposed to believe?

I believe that the answer can be found in the Torah itself, where the answer to every other question can also be found.

Yehoshu'a ben Perahiyah and Nittai the Arbelli received it [the Torah] from them. Yehoshu'a ben Perahiyah says make for yourself a rav, acquire for yourself a friend; and judge each Jew favorably. (Mishah Avoth 1:6)
As politically-incorrect as it may be, the Ramba"m, and others teach that the word אדם/adam indicates "Jew" in this mishnah. R' Ovadiah meBartenura goes a step further, and says this refers to a "kosher Jew," those who believe in the Torah, and observe it.

The Ramba"m also states a time when we should do the opposite, and this is when dealing with a known rasha (evil person). In this situation, we should assume that he have evil intentions, even if his actions appear to be beneficial on the surface.

Granted, we do not determine halakhah (Torah Law), based on a single source alone. Nevertheless, I ask you, to whom are we to give kaf zekhuth (benefit of the doubt)? To the Torah observant Jew? Or to the State, which happens to have some symbolic, Jewish sprinkles on top, while implementing its anti-Torah agenda at every step of the way?

The main objective of the State's imprisonment of Meir Ettinger, under an old law from the British Mandate used to imprison Jewish freedom fighters, is to break him, and to demonstrate to the masses that the State's laws are greater than Torah Law.

Of course, the State will never succeed in this endeavor.

Saturday-Sunday Weekend for Israel?

Well, the proposed law to create a two-day weekend in Israel has reappeared, yet again.
Arutz 7: New Bill to Make Sunday a Day Off in Israel
Jewish Home MK Yinon Magal suggests making up lost man-hours throughout the week, says extended weekend grants religious equality.

Ido Ben-Porat, 9/9/2015

Jewish Home party MK Yinon Magal has tabled a bill that would make Sunday an official day off in Israel, in a move that is likely to reignite debate over the somewhat controversial topic.

This is not the first time it has been suggested to extend the weekend to Sunday, with previous attempts being shot down by opponents who contend adding to the weekend would seriously harm the Israeli economy.

Currently, weekends in the Jewish state are from Friday-Saturday, the latter of which is the Jewish Sabbath. But while having Fridays off enables religiously-observant Jewish families to adequately prepare for Shabbat, it also means there is no "day off" as there is in other countries, since Shabbat-observant Jews are prohibited from performing many activities such as driving or otherwise traveling long distances, and spend Fridays preparing for Shabbat as opposed to spending time with their families.

Some have also argued that making Sunday a day off would boost the domestic tourism and leisure sector, with Shabbat-observant families freer to enjoy attractions throughout the country. Others have suggested it could even boost Shabbat observance among "traditional" Israelis, who would in theory observe the holy day if they had more time to engage in leisure activities on Sunday.

In a statement, Magal - who is a non-observant Jew - emphasized both the social and economic benefits of his bill, further noting it would provide "equality" between observant and non-observant Jews.

Addressing the question of how the lost working hours to the Israeli economy would be made up - given that observant Jews cannot practically work more than half a day on Fridays - Magal's bill suggests half a days'-worth of hours be made up by extending working hours Monday-Thursday, with the remaining made up by a half-day on Fridays.

"In a state which sanctifies the Sabbath and limits public transportation and sporting events, it is important to advance a day-off on which no citizen feels that their freedom is limited," Magal said.

Jewish Home Anglo Forum Chairman Jeremy Saltan praised the proposed bill.

"Many of us olim miss our Sundays off," he said. "I want to thank Yinon for moving forward with this important issue. I think there is a real chance this time to get it done."
Esser Agaroth (2¢):
Standing next to Jewish Home Party Leader Naftali Bennett, wearing his ever shrinking kippah, MK Yinon Magal claims to "love the Torah."

Well, someone needs to remind MK Magal that the Torah includes the commandment to keep Shabbath.

It is not an option; it is a COMMANDMENT,...as in you HAVE to do it.

Yinon Magal with Naftali Bennett
December, 2014
Where exactly IS Naftali Bennett's kippah?
Is MK Yinon Magal perhaps suggesting that one may be creative as to how one keeps Shabbath?

Um,...no.

The Oral Torah is quite specific as to what is required of Jews to keep Shabbath. Sorry, Yinon Magal, but you cannot say you "love the Torah," and then ignore half of it.

Besides Shabbath, there are mitzvoth such as eating only kosher food, family purity, tefillin, and countless other non-optional commandments, such as not putting a stumbling block in front of other Jews, and even more so, not actively leading them to sin.

When the government allows stores to be open and transportation to run on Shabbath, non-kosher food to be sold in stores and in restaurants, those in the government supporting these policies, such as MK Elazar Stern (Yesh Atid) who should know better, with that kippah on his head, are violating the Torah.

Calling such policies "pluralistic" or "democratic" do not magically make them OK.

And if that was not clear enough for MK Magal, there is no such thing as religious fairness in the Torah. There is truth, and there are lies. Jews are to keep the entire Torah. Non-Jews are to keep seven mitzvoth. There is no in betweens, no compromises. The only pluralism in Torah-observance may be found in our customs alone.

Quite frankly, it also seems that making it easier for Israel's "Christian citizens" to observe their day of rest. That couldn't possibly be because of their "love" for us and their validation of our, could it? What about their money pouring into Israel?

As I recall, the last time this proposal reared its ugly head was in תשע״א/2011, by none other than MK Yariv Levine and kippah-wearing MK Ze'ev Elkin (Likud).
MK Levine explained that the law would enhance Israel’s integration into the global market and synchronize Israel’s trade days with the international standard. The move will also increase private consumption and assist the tourism sector and other services. (Arutz 7)
Another reason which was given for the addition of Sunday as a non-workday was to "help" the religious community.
The initiative would allow Israelis to have a holiday from work on Sundays, while also being able to shop and travel on that day. These things are not possible on Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath, on which Jewish religion forbids all forms of work. They are possible in a limited way on Fridays, because shops and transportation close down early in preparation for the Sabbath. (Arutz 7)
In actuality, though, the above reasons are just code for "let's be more like the goyim." This is in ignorance, or perhaps even in spite of, the countless mandates of the Torah to remain separate from the goyim, when we are talking about the prohibition against marrying them or the prohibition against wearing their clothing, we are to remain separate and distinct, and that includes the observance of goyshe feast days..
Mishneh Torah, Laws of Avodah Zarah and Goyim 9:4
The Christians are practitioners of foreign worship. And Sunday is their feast day. Therefore, it is forbidden to negotiate with them in the Land of Israel, any Thursday, Friday, or Shabbath. And there is no need to say Sunday itself, which is forbidden in and out of Israel. And thus we accustomed on all of their feast days.
Even in the U. S., Jews make a point of opening their businesses on Sundays to demonstrate that they are not showing regard for the Christian holiday.

And by the way, not that it matters, but will businesses have to pay their employees Shabbath salaries on Sunday? I hate to think what that will do to Israel's economic growth.

Olim miss their two day weekends, huh? Well, all I can say to that is that you can take the Jew out of Galuth (exile), but you cannot away take the Galuth out of the Jew.

With regards to MK Magal, it is apparent that you can say that you love the Torah of Israel, but not have any clue what Torah really means.

Mosques and Churches Burn! Everyone is Outraged! Synagogues Burn, Who Cares?

Synagogue Arson: Books and Tefillin are Undamaged
Employees discovered the fire at the 'rest stop' synagogue just off Highway 6 before it spread into the building.

Hezki Ezra, 8/16/2015

Arsonists set fire to a small roadside synagogue in north-central Israel before dawn in Friday, but the fire was put out before it could consume holy books and tefillin (phylacteries). The synagogue is located next to a rest stop on Highway 6, and enables travelers to make a “pit stop” for praying and then continue to drive down the major thoroughfare.

Mendi Makmal, Chabad's emissary at the synagogue, told Arutz Sheva that the report about the attack was received at 5:00 AM Friday. The same synagogue was burned to the ground in a previous arson attack, 14 months ago, and Makmal feared that the same thing had happened again. Happily, he was proven wrong.

"In the end it was the employees at the site who showed initiative, took fire extinguishers and water and succeeded in putting out the fire,” he recounted. “Thank God, the damage is only external, the tefillin and books remained whole, and only the walls and air conditioners were damaged. We will fix them and activity will resume with even greater gusto.”

Security cameras were installed after the previous arson, and the recordings are in the hands of the police, said Makmal.

While the synagogue is located near the Arab town of Baka al-Gharbiya, Makmal was not quick to point the finger at that specific community. “There are fields and orchards here and a person can approach from any direction. If you want to set the fire, you just have to cover your face and set the fire.”

Makmal said that the arsonists apparently had helmets on. They poured gasoline and set it on fire, and then got away. (cont.)
Esser Agaroth (2¢):
Apparently, still no word on the analysis of the security camera footage. My bets are on Arabs.

Helmets? A professional job? Maybe. Well-planned out? Definitely.

This was second time this synagogue was set on fire in 14 months. It is "located near the Arab town of Baka al-Gharbiya," yet the rabbi "was not quick to point the finger at that specific community."

However, the rabbi did not rule out Arabs as the culprits either.

More importantly, though, where is the outrage?

Meir David Ettinger sits in jail under an old British Mandate legal action, called "administrative detention," used against Jews fighting for Israel's independence, cohorts of former Prime Ministers Begin and Shamir. Ettinger is being held as a suspect in the alleged arson of of an Arab's house, killing it's owner and infant son.

All evidence appears to be pointing to the consequences of Arab clan wars. But, has anyone recanting their scatching accusatory assumptions that it was Jews? Has any Israeli politician displayed regret for his calls for the death penalty?

A church was burned in the north, and the world is up in arms. Two additional young, Jewish men sit in "administrative detention," accused of the church's arson. But, at least one of them was with his parents at the time the fire started.

Naftali Bennett
...calling for the death penalty.
A mosque was burned down in an Arab village next to K'far Tapu'ah in the Shomron (Samaria), supposedly by Jews. A former neighbor of mine, another grandson of Rabbi Meir Kahane hy"d was taken in for questioning for about eight hours, before being released. Also named for his grandfather, Meir David is nice and bright, young man, as gentle as his father Rabbi Binyamin Kahane hy"d
A leftist professor had a pipe bomb blown up next to him. At least 15 Jews were dragged in for questioning, myself included. This incident still smells like a "false flag event" to me, an excuse to harass Jews who fear The Almighty more than the Israeli Government, and a chance to convince them to work for them.

Arabs burning synagogues, running people down with cars, buses, and tractors are either said to be "acting alone," crazy, freedom fighters, or sufferers of battered wives syndrome.

They go to jail, sit around, watch television and eat pizza, waiting their turns to be released in the next prisoner exchange, after which they can go out and kill some more Jews (May The Almighty save us from ourselves!).

Whereas Jews suspected of killing of killing an Arab, even without any eyewitnesses, let alone any evidence at all, sits in jail, with limited contact with counsel, if that, and are called extemists, and threats to the State's vary existence, and anti-Semites and self-hating Jews have a field day yelling out, "I told you so!" and comparing them to the Taliban and ISIS.

These young men are supposed to be "extremists," because they acknowledge that the Torah touches every aspect of a Jew's life, and not just "shabbos and kashrus shailos."

Whereas the bumbling idiots, hanging on with dear life to their seats of power, call themselves "Zionists," and have obviously forgotten what the term realy means, not to mention the actual origin of the concept, from thousands of years ago.

Dancing at a Kavkazi Jewish Wedding

I bumped into this video on Facebook...
StandWithUs How to dance at a Kavkazi Jewish wedding...you're up next!

Only in Israel do you see such a beautiful and diverse blend of cultures!

h/t הצינור

Esser Agaroth (2¢):
Apparently, there were some Americans who were unable to relate to the style of dancing, presented in the video, and so they made some rather unattractive comments.

Now, I would be the first to criticize anything galuthi (related to non-Jewish exile), but I do not believe I would have done so with such negative comments. At least I hope not, and at least not to dancing.

This is how I responded to those who made the disparaging comments (which I will not repeat here):

Seriously?

If you knew just how difficult this footwork is, I sincerely doubt that you have would have called this dancing "******."

The custom of entertaining the hathan (groom) and kallah (bride) is almost universal at Jewish weddings. The way to do this, though, is to use the customs and techniques with which the couple are familiar. I wonder what Kavkazim would have to say about American weddings, dancing, and their modes of entertaining the happy couple.

Northern Kavkaz (Caucasus) Region

Kavkazi Jews took great efforts over the years to maintain their Jewish identity and customs in the face of Soviet communist control. Kavkazim generally have Jewish names, and Kavkazi men have a brith milah (Jewish circumcision), and not only know what tefillin are, but have actually put them on. Can all American Jews say the same about themselves?

Most importantly, it is a misswah (commandment) to make the hathan and kallah happy.

Oh, yeah, and for future reference, I would like to tell the expression I learned while living with more than a handful of Kavkazim in the merkaz qelitah (new immigrant absorption center):

"A Kavkazi can be your most loyal friend, or your worst enemy."

Our Kavkazi brothers and sisters should be complimented and encouraged, not disparaged.

Israel's Northern Border: What the Hell is Going On?

Does anyone have a clue as to what's going on, on Israel's northern border? Because I sure as hell do not.

(*If you are a news junkie, then you can check out Yeranen Ya'akov's collection of related links.)
PM Netanyahu
At least 7 wounded, including soldiers, from Hezbollah fire in north
01.28.15, 11:51: IDF respond with fire after vehicle hit with anti-tank missile not far from Har Dov, additional fire hits Hermon shortly after - a day after IAF responds to Hezbollah rocket attack against Israel. (YNET)

Netanyahu: Those behind deadly border attack will pay the price
01.28.15, 20:24: PM says 'IDF is prepared to act strongly on all fronts'; defense minister says 'we will respond forcefully and with determination'. (YNET)
And now, what is the prime minister doing? Nothing.

The following report appears to cover all of the bases. Still, something (I don't know what) seems to be missing...
For both Israel and Hezbollah, calm works for now (YNET)
01.29.15, 00:56: Analysis by Ron Ben-Yishai: Hezbollah is not in a position to carry out a massive revenge attack for the killing of its senior officials on the Golan last week, and in Israel, political considerations take center stage.

Hezbollah is clearly signaling a message that it sees its score with Israel has been settled. The ambush Wednesday morning that killed an IDF fighter and an officer and wounded seven soldiers is, by all indications, retaliation – and a suitable response in its view – for the killing of its senior officials and an Iranian general (Jihad Mughniyeh) last Sunday on the Golan Heights.

Hezbollah is worried that Israel would respond with force the attack on its soldiers, destroy its vast missile system and impair the organization's ability to act as a strategic long arm for Iran. The Iranians have warned Nasrallah that this cannot happen.

Therefore, the Hezbollah chief has been issuing conciliatory messages via every possible channel. And now, the ball is in the Israeli court. Prime Minister Netanyahu, Defense Minister Ya'alon, the chief of staff and his deputy are actually the ones who decide what happens next. They face a difficult dilemma: If they deal a major blow to Hezbollah in Lebanon, the result would probably be a total conflagration, probably the Third Lebanon War. (cont.)
Ben-Yishai goes onto cover the political implications...
If the present government decides on a harsh response that would trigger a major escalation, it would almost immediately be accused of dragging Israel into a political war designed to serve the ends of Netanyahu, Avigdor Lieberman and Naftali Bennett.
Maybe I am just a jaded, ol' veteran immigrant, but I have long ceased giving government officials the benefit of the doubt. Netanyahu's potential exploitation of this conflict came to mind almost immediately, especially with the upcoming, March 17th elections.

In fact, I pretty much assumed that if this was not some kind of ploy, then it must have been implemented in order to distract the public, and divert its attention away from something else, something he did not want us to notice.

This is an all too common tactic employed in the U. S.

Of course, Prime Minister Netanyahu already provided his spin on the situation, fairly early on in the border conflict...
Israeli officials blame Iran for northern border attack
01.28.15, 15:30: Netanyahu on Lebanon attack: I suggest those trying to challenge us in the North look at Gaza. (JPost)

Sources in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s bureau blamed Iran for Wednesday’s attack on the northern border.

“Iran is behind this heinous terrorist attack. The same Iran which the world powers are forming an agreement with, that would allow it to maintain its ability to acquire nuclear weapons capacity,” the sources said.

This is the same Iran that tried to build a terrorist infrastructure in the Golan Heights, similar to what it has in Syria, Lebanon, Gaza, Iraq and Yemen, the sources said.

This is the same Iran that supports terrorism around the globe, the sources said.

“We must not give such terrorism a nuclear umbrella. We must not let the most dangerous regime in the world to arm itself with the most dangerous weapons in the world,” the sources said. (cont.)
Blah, blah, blah...

Unsurprising, and completely lacking in creativity. It's just too boring to be a political ploy. Were these words really designed to garner sympathy from the West? That same ol' tactic which has never worked?

Votes for the upcoming elections? Good luck!

And what was that part about Gaza? A joke? Hamas forces are rearming and doing push-ups, as I write. Israel never finishes the job, and the Arabs know this all too well.
Israeli UN Ambassador Not Invited to Discussion on Attack
1/29/2015, 9:10 AM: The Security Council conducted a discussion of the attack on IDF troops in which a Spanish peacekeeper was killed as well. (Arutz 7)
No surprise here. Nor is it any surprise that the Spanish Ambassador blames Israel.
"It is clear that this was because of the escalation of the violence and it came from the Israeli side"
So, if known terrorists, seeking the destruction of all Spanish people, were roaming along the borders of Spain, doing reconnaissance, you would just let them? Yeah, right!

A few hours after this, maybe the prime minister is doing something after all, or thinking about it.
Report: IAF conducting flights over Sidon in Lebanon
01.29.15, 12:37: Lebanese media reported on Thursday that the IAF was conducting flights over Sidon - Lebanon's 3rd largest city. The media outlets reported that Israeli warplanes and drones were conducted flights over the area. (Elior Levy, YNET)

As you can see, Sidon is pretty far north of the border. What the hell were they doing up there??

Incidentally, according to most opinions, the borders of the tribal territories of Asher and Naftali (ie. Eretz Yisra'el) run at least to the Litani River. However, I will not hold my breath for a possible reconquest. We suffered enough disappointment in 2006/תשס״ו.

But, I digress...

Meanwhile, in Washington, DC, the back and forth continues over Speaker of House John Boehner's invitation to Prime minister Netanyahu to address Congress. The White House feels snubbed (Boo-Hoo!), and both Boehner and Netanyahu play dumb, feigning ignorance of what problem U. S. President Obama could possible

Personally, I believe that Boehner is just using Netanyahu to drum up some publicity, to mend some of the bridges burned between himself and the generally pro-Israel, conservative Republicans who tried to oust him from his position as Speaker. I am sure that Boehner is also quite happy to exploit this opportunity to respond to Obama's overstepping of his authority and slighting of the Legislative Branch more times than can be counted, sending the message that "two can play at that game."

Pres. Obama
But, of course, Netanyahu is allowing himself to used. It takes two to tango.

President Obama is certainly no fan of Netanyahu. Rumors having been flying, that is, if he doesn't get us all killed in some nuclear holocaust because of his idiotic strategies of "diplomacy" toward Iran. No, not naivete, idiocy. There is no way that this president is calling the shots, even in his own country. No way.

Confused? Good. So, am I.

The only thing I am sure about, is that The Holy One, Blessed Be He, is on our side, and watching out for us.

Israel Breaking @IsraelBreaking

Prayer teffilin found fully intact inside IDF patrol car totally destroyed in yesterdays Hezbollah attack.

This is not the first story I have heard of tefillin surviving an attack unscathed.

Unfortunately, if we do not acknowledge that He is on our side, and start doing our part, we may have to incur some proverbial kicks in the pants, until we have His full and undivided attention.

Heaven help us.

Attack Against Jews on the Temple Mount!

This just in from Temple Mount activists:

UPDATE FROM THE MOUNT:
Yesterday (Thursday, May 8, 2014) 3 Jewish youth were violently arrested for trying to go up to the Temple Mount with Tefillin (Jewish Holy boxes with biblical verses) wrapped on their arms and head as the Torah commands. The police acted with unwarranted brutality.

The Temple Mount International condemns the police illegal actions and urges the public to support the return of Jewish rights to the Mount via all legal means possible.

Igniting The Temple Mount

I posted this article from Ha'Aretz, which I prefer to call "Am Ha'Aretz" (riff-raff), in its entirety. My highlighting only points out some of this rag's slant, such as referring to Torah-observant Jews as "fanatics." Misswoth (Torah Commandments) such as qorbanoth (sacrifices) are looked down upon as archaic and barbaric, flying in the face of the "holy," Western/assimilationist, "progressive" (Read: non-Jewish) values. Acts, such as attempting to bring tefillin onto the Temple Mount, are tantamount to smuggling.

It is important to recognize the voice of those whose lives' purpose is to battle against the Torah, as well as their common strategies.

Ha'Aretz: Temple Mount, a flash point ready to ignite
More than the political stalemate between Israel and the Palestinians, it is rising tensions in the Temple Mount that could lead to an escalation.

Amos Harel and Nir Hasson, April 20, 2014

The rising tensions in Jerusalem in recent weeks escalated even further on Sunday morning with the injury of two police officers and 24 Palestinian protesters on the Temple Mount. The events on the Temple Mount, which attracts both Israeli and Palestinian fanatics, has been receiving more and more attention from the security establishment recently.

Most striking, on the Israeli side, have been the activities of various organizations which have managed to advance their interests by securing the support of right-wing Knesset members. On the Palestinian side, the Palestinian Authority has been responding to the increased presence on the Temple Mount of Hamas and similar organizations. It seems that Hamas has recognized, rightly so, the Temple Mount’s potential for reigniting an intifada in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, while it upholds the ceasefire on the Gaza-Israel border.

The Israel Police have deployed a large contingent to keep the peace on and around the Temple Mount. But, aside from their goal to keep the peace, the police are under constant criticism from the right-edge of the political spectrum, which claims that they are giving in to Palestinian demands on the Temple Mount and failing to act against Muslim stone-throwing at both Jews praying at the Western Wall and the security forces.

The tensions on the Temple Mount become even more important due to the stalemated negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Most media attention has been directed toward the American attempt to guarantee continuation of the talks until the end of the year, at the least, by securing prisoner releases and creating other incentives. At the same time, the PA has resumed threatening to dismantle itself, which would force Israel to take responsibility for civil administration in the West Bank.

But, in actuality, it seems that the biggest threat of escalation is events on the ground – from tensions between extremist settlers like those in Yitzhar and their Palestinian neighbors to the clashes on the Temple Mount. It is also important to note that struggle for control of the Temple Mount has historically been a contributing factor to escalation between Jews and Palestinians – from the 1929 riots, to the clashes in 1990, and the outbreak of the Second Intifada in 2000. (The word "riots" is used here instead of the more precise word "massacre.")

Turning point
In retrospect, Passover 2014 might be remembered as a turning point in the escalation of violence on the Temple Mount. As with every holiday, increased tensions were certainly felt over Passover, but this time, it seems that conditions for increased violence on the Temple Mount were perfect. On the Jewish side, the various “Temple movements” (there are around 30 organizations clamoring to rebuild the Jewish temple or reinstate ritual sacrifice), have made unprecedented achievements in bringing the notion of altering the status quo on the Temple Mount into Israeli public discourse. The issue is also on the daily agenda of various Israeli MKs and ministers, including Uri Ariel, Moshe Feiglin and Miri Regev.

MK Moshe Feiglin (3rd from left) and other Jews on the Temple Mount

In recent months, not a day has gone by without some kind of incident between Jews attempting to enter the Temple Mount and police. Sometimes it’s yeshiva students caught with tefillin. Other times, important rabbis or MKs are refused entry to the mount. But despite what seems like the police being overly strict with its policies toward Jews, Temple Mount activists should be more than satisfied with their achievements over the last year.

Temple activists have managed to get questions of the mount into Israeli public discourse, and not just as a matter of Israeli sovereignty, but rather as a question of Jewish religious freedom. Roughly two months ago, the Knesset held its first discussion of the issue. The Internal affairs committee, headed by MK Miri Regev, has held numerous discussions on the subject, and has also created a subcommittee to examine religious freedom on the Temple Mount, headed by MK David Tsur. Even Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz, not considered a supporter of the Temple Mount activists, has written on his Facebook page in favor of changing Israeli policy on the mount. No less important is the fact that a decade ago only a handful of Jews would periodically visit the Temple Mount. Now, they come out in droves.

Most of the visitors wear knitted yarmulkes, although some soldiers visit as well (within the framework of historical and cultural trips,) as do students, women, secular people and even some ultra-Orthodox, even though for the ultra-Orthodox, visiting the Temple Mount used to be forbidden under any circumstances.

Jerusalem's police, which have been stretched thin with the weekend activities, the Christian Easter holiday, the Passover holiday and last night’s “Big Bong Night,” has been subject to criticism from both the public and politicians over the perception that it has given in to Palestinian violence on the Temple Mount. As such, efforts have been made over the last few days to allow Jews to visit the mount despite the violence. Only small groups have been allowed to up for short, rather unsatisfying visits, as far as they’re concerned. A senior police official admitted that the insistence on opening the mount to Jews and tourists is a matter of principle, to show Palestinians that violence does not pay off.

For Temple Mount activists, Passover is considered the peak time of year, due to the commandment of ascending to the Temple and offering sacrifice, which they see as one of the most important commandments in Judaism. “If the prime minister would allow it, Jerusalem would be bustling with thousands of young lambs and goats being brought to sacrifice by Jews fulfilling this most important of commandments from the Torah,” read a statement jointly published by the temple movements. “It is the only commandment, aside from circumcision, that is punishable by karet [a kind of spiritual punishment equivalent to cutting off the soul from God]” adds journalist Arnon Segel, one of the Temple movements’ leaders.

As with every Passover, goat sacrifice “practice runs” took place in the Kiryat Moshe neighborhood of Jerusalem, and eight activists were arrested en route to the Temple Mount carrying a goat. In contrast to years past, this time it seems that the Palestinian side is taking rhetoric about changing the status quo rather seriously. The security establishment has also indicated that there is a connection between the breakdown of negotiations and the escalation of violence in Jerusalem in general, and the Temple Mount specifically. The relative weakness of Fatah in Jerusalem has also been a contributing factor. The police are well aware of the back and forth between the Jewish Temple activists and Islamic activists, “they are very attentive to every discussion in the Knesset, every committee meeting, as well as to websites for the Jewish movements, and they respond immediately,” said one police official.

Special riot police presence on the Temple Mount

Escalation has been slow but steady. Over the last year, police forces have entered the Temple Mount on every holiday. But this Passover, police have been on the Temple Mount every day, and there has been a significant increase in violence, as well as the use of firecrackers thrown at police. Every police entry to the Temple Mount includes almost 2,000 police personnel, and ends with 15 injured Palestinians, on average.

Since 2003, when the mount was reopened to visits from non-Muslims, no police personnel have entered the mosques there. The decision for police to enter the mosques, if it comes, will be made by senior Israeli leadership. In the meantime, the Palestinians have taken advantage of the Israeli reluctance to enter the mosques. Every day during this holiday, Palestinians have prepared for a battle of attrition against the police on the mount. They arrive in the evening, barricade themselves inside the AL Aqsa Mosque, equipped with stones and firecrackers, and wait until morning. The mosque doors are the flashpoint for violence – that’s where the crossfire happens, stones and firecrackers in exchange for tear gas and stun grenades.

Esser Agaroth (2¢):
There is that term "religious freedom" being thrown around again (and again, and again). The Erev Rav State controlled media cleverly takes its losses, the advancement of Torah activists' goals and objectives, and attempts to turn them upside down.

When "religious freedom" is discussed, it ends up encompassing the "religious freedom" of everyone in Israel, including Jews who are not Torah-observant, Jews who are not Torah-observant, before who want everyone to believe that they are, and, or course, goym. But, not just Muslims, Druze, and Arab Christians, but also Hindus, Buddhists, Mormon, Bahai, and last, but certainly not least, messianic and Evangelical missionaries, bent on staking a claim on Jewish souls, as well Jewish Lands.

"Religious freedom" is used in an attempt to veer activists away from fighting for rightful, Jewish sovereignty over Har HaBayith (Temple Mount)

The bottom line?

Torah activists are making some headway, and the towers of the party line, Leftists and Mamlakhtim (diehard State loyalists) alike are running scared.

The last thing either of them wants is a truly, Jewish State, let alone a restored, Jewish Kingdom.

Former Chief IDF Rabbi Ronsky Appears to have Completely Lost It

Rabbi Gen. Avichai Ronsky
Clearly little has been learned by some members of the dati leumi community as former IDF Chief Rabbi Avichai Ronsky is quoted saying that his community still has more in common with the secularists and Yesh Atid than with the chareidim.

Using his Facebook page to get the message out, Rabbi Ronsky on Sunday, 21 Adar II explained the common denominator between the dati leumi and secular community represented by Yair Lapid. Ronsky feels the political deal reached between Yesh Atid and Bayit Yehudi was mutually beneficial, leading to betterment for each party and collectively for the state.

MK Yoni Chetboun
Rabbi Ronsky feels that with all the machlokes, Yesh Atid and Bayit Yehudi are on the same page regarding key issues, including education, the nation’s economy, national defense and “the other issues pertaining to the State of Israel” while the same cannot be said regarding Bayit Yehudi and the chareidim.

For some, Rabbi Ronsky’s words come as a surprise while for others; the cat is out of the bag.

In his post Ronsky also used the opportunity to criticize MK Yoni Chetboun for violating coalition discipline and voting against the new draft law.

Rabbi Ronsky feels the headlines in the chareidi media resulted in additional support for one who compromised party unity and such a reality is needless and damaging.

Esser Agaroth (2¢):
In the past Rabbi Ronsky had made what have seemed to be very appropriate Torah statements, appropriate statements which have appropriately enraged Leftists and pseudo-Right wing, die-hard State loyalists alike. These appropriate statements have included:
1. Saving a wounded enemy terrorist's life may only be done under limited circumstances, such as for the sake of obtaining intelligence information which may save Jewish lives. (Rabbi Me'ir Kahane hy"d made similar statements.)

2. It is forbidden to rely on the United States of America.

3. Jewish women do not need to serve in the IDF. (Well,...close, but no cigar.)
Rabbi Ronsky has also been called an example of those who "cause racist and extremist incitement." In other words, even though he IS a rabbi, how dare he cite halakhah (Jewish Law)!

And now, he identifies more with God-less, Statists, than with Stateless religious, who keep Shabbath, like he does, who keep dietary laws like he does, pray three times a day, fulfill the misswoth of tzitzith and tefillin like he does, look to The Almighty as their Creator and ultimate Authority over everything they do and say,....not like he does???

So, what the heck happened? I have no clue. Maybe he was always this loyal to the State and to the un-Jewish, Israeli deMOCKratic system of government it possess, and I was just too blind to see it.

Yair Lapid
Finance Minister and Yesh Atid Party Chief

Still, to have jumped all the way over from there to here, either he has been influenced,...in one way or another, or he has completely lost it.

U. S. Consulate, Jerusalem
Last Thursday was my final "interview" in the process of renouncing my U. S. Citizenship.

I arrived early. Upon approach to the entrance, I was greeted with a scene over to the right, an Israeli Border Patrol soldier was putting on Tefillin, and preparing to pray, while his female counterpart continued their guard duties.

I took that as a sign.

At security, I not only had to check my phone, but also the pencil sharpener. Could that have been used as a weapon? I suppose, so do not begrudge the U. S. government my temporary lack of ability to sharpen my pencil. But, who do they expect to show up at the Consulate? MacGyver?

Besides that, the Arabs manning the front desk took the opportunity to display their inefficiency and lack of professionalism, even more so than when I was last there.

As I walked to the bathroom, with my native Israeli security "escort," I asked him in Hebrew how he deals with such nonsense. He just laughed. 'Nuff said.

When I entered the waiting area, I was taken almost right away, even though I was early. Again, I was the only one there beside my "escort." It all wen pretty smoothly, as I spoke with the same official with whom I spoke the last time. He was very helpful through emails back and forth, scheduling this appointment so that I could deal with him, and not with somebody new, who might take longer, asking me repeat questions, and reviewing my paperwork.

The "interview" went quickly, with the official only asking me if I "still wanted to go through with 'it.'"

I said, "Yes." I signed the forms I had brought with me already filled out. Then he signed them. All that was left to do, was to pay the $450 fee, and then wait for my official certificate, which was expected to arrive by mail in a few weeks. By the way, I chose to bring in a self-addressed, stamped envelop, with enough postage for registered mail, instead of using the Consulate's courier service. ₪11.40 was enough for up to 500g (about 1 lb.), more than enough. I even put a registered mail sticker o the envelop for them, with matching form. Perhaps that was overkill, but whatever.

At this point in the process, I was told that the only person who could take my fee was still out. He should be there soon, and was specifically told that he needed to be there by my appointment time.

Twenty minutes later, I was informed that a call was just received from the only person who could take my money was very close

Meanwhile, the security guard and I chatted, about a variety of topics. Like the security guard from my previous visit, this one also wanted to know why I wanted to renounce my U. S. citizenship.

About forty minutes late, I was finally called over to the cashier's window for the privilege of giving the U. S. Government money, so that it would no longer own me.

Think about that for a moment. I had to pay the U. S. Government to be released from its control, or as I am guessing the U. S. Government might phrase it, from its responsibility.

If you ask me, that sounds just too similar to a ransom for my taste. Of course, the U. S. Government calls it an "execution fee." I wonder if there is a double meaning embedded there someplace.

But, I digress...

Paying The "Execution Fee"
Almost an hour after I should have had everything all wrapped up, I was met at the cashier's window by an Arab,...a belligerent Arab. It turned out that he was not even the on who was late. That was someone else who had to get something out of a safe. This was never clear to me, and remember, he and I were both speaking in our native tongue, English. The only think I understood were the apologies.

Quite frankly, I am thinking about send the Consulate, or the State Department in Washington a bill for my time, time lost from work, not to mention time lost from work as a result of the "required," yet not by law, second visit.

As I was paying in New Israeli Sheqqels (), I was informed that the sheqqel to dollar rate was 3.6, as listed on the Consulate's website. I responded that I knew that, but that I was told that the rate was periodically updated on the website, and that today the rate was not 3.6, rather it was 3.47.

"This is the rate we give you," the Arab told me.

"Your supervisor, please," I returned in true, "do NOT mess with me," Southern Californian form. Why should I give the U. S. Government anymore than I should have to?

The difference in our rate dispute worked out to 58.50, approximately $16.86, for those of you who think in dollars.

I know more than a few people, Israelis and Americans alike, myself included, who would be very happy to receive 58.50/$16.86 in hand, and could find 1,000 possible uses for it, especially in today's economic climate.

The official who had taken care of my paperwork returned to the scene. He explained that was the rate that the Consulate gives.

I anticipated this response. So, I let it go. I just wanted to get out of there already.
I left the Consulate with copies of my submitted documents, and a "temporary" receipt. No seal, no stamp, just the Arab cashier's scribble on a flimsy receipt (below).

"Temporary Receipt"

This "temporary" receipt apparently had something to do with the other official who was late in arriving, and, by the way, who never bothered to apologize to me in person, even though I was the only person there waiting for him. Too important for a mere citizen, I suppose. I was told to expect an official one in the mail.

However, at this second and hopefully last "interview," I was told that once I paid my money, I was no longer a U. S. citizen.

Nevertheless, I await my official Certificate of Renunciation with baited breath.

Stay tuned!
