The Real Problem with Israeli PM Lapid's Call for a Two-State Solution

Israel's Caretaker Prime Minister Yair Lapid

YNET: Lapid to back a two-state solution in UN speech
In UN speech prime minister to say Israel's vision for the future must be a separation from Palestinians in the interest of the nation and as part of new middle east; he is to argue Israel is only opposed to a bad deal with Iran and is free to act to prevent a nuclear threat
Itamar Eichner | 09.21.2022

Prime Minister Yair Lapid is expected to endorse a two-state solution to the Israeli Palestinian conflict, in his speech to the UN General Assembly on Thursday.

This will be the first time in many years that an Israeli prime minister will raise the possibility of the establishment of a Palestinian state along-side Israel, in the international forum. (cont.)
Esser Agaroth (2¢):
This evening at the United Nations General Assembly, Israeli caretaker Prime Minister Yair Lapid is expected to call for a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestinian Arab conflict. No surprises there. I am wondering if any right-wing, just-a-caretaker prime minister would be called out for speaking out against the establishment of another Arab terrorist state. Probably.

The fact that he is a caretaker prime minister, and making major policy statements, is also disturbing. Even more disturbing is that I cannot find anyone calling him out for this. Did I miss them?

The more important question is what will happen if Lapid loses the premiership after the upcoming elections (7 Heshvan / Nov. 1)? Will the new prime minister retract this policy statement? Will he ignore the potential significance of such a statement? Will he be wishy-washy, and waver on it? Will he flip-flop back and forth on it? Or will he actually throw up his arms, and say that there is no turning back from it? Sound farfetched? I hope it is.

There are some who calling out Lapid for the statement itself, including former(?) ally Naftali Bennett.
Bennett attacked Lapid: "Who are we talking about when we talk about Palestinians? About Hamas, which has their support? About Abu Mazen who in his free time denies the Holocaust and pays murderers?" (translated from Haredi10)

MK Micha'el Moshe Malchieli (Shas): "While the people of Israel are busy with Mukhtar's apartment*, Lapid is in final negotiations to hand over Israeli territories to Hezbollah." (translated from 0404)

*Hadar Mukhtar is a TikTok influencer running in Israel's November parliamentary elections, who has recently run into some controversy.
The right says that Lapid is exploiting his appearance and meetings at the UN for political purposes, and to push his agenda. The left says that, of course, Israel should take advantage of any opportunity to be seen as a player on the world stage. What was Lapid to do? Not attend the UN General Assembly?

The truth is that both sides are correct.

This all being said, I, of course, hope that Lapid does lose in the elections. However, I believe that our battle against the Torah-haters is still far from being over.

For years, surveys have always shown that the majority of Israelis are against giving up any land. But that has never seemed to concern elitist, Israeli politicians, who not only believe that they know better, but who do everything in their power to distort, chip away, and otherwise attack the Torah and its adherents.

So much for "Jewish Democracy."
