Ted Deutch

Arutz 7: 'We will work to prevent Israel from amending Law of Return'
"We will act to prevent anything from happening to cause rifts within Diaspora Jewry," says former Democratic lawmaker-turned AJC CEO.
Israel National News, Jan 23, 2023

Ted Deutch, a former Democratic congressman and the CEO of the American Jewish Committee, has expressed his opposition to any changes being made to the "grandchild clause" in the Law of Return.

"We want the Israeli government and our friends to understand that we will act to prevent anything from happening to cause rifts within Diaspora Jewry," he told Israel Hayom. "We don't want anything to happen that could stop people from seeing Israel as their place of refuge, especially now, during a period of heightened anti-Semitism."

Deutch added that, "Any restrictions imposed on the Law of Return would constitute a message that we can't send to Jewish communities around the world, and we've been clear on this during our conversations in the past. We want to feel confident that there aren't any changes to the relationship between Israel and the diaspora going ahead, no changes in the Law of Return that treat one part of the Jewish People differently."
Esser Agaroth (2¢):
What Ted Deutch and the American Jewish Committee [AJC] do not seem to understand is that these non-Jews, currently covered by the grandchild clause of the Law of Return are just that, non-Jews, and thus not part of the Jewish People.

On the other hand, maybe they do understand this, and all too well.

Why are they so concerned about maintaining the continually increasing rights of non-Jews in the supposedly Jewish state?

Are former congressman Ted Deutch (D-FL) and the AJC just playing politics as usual, fulfilling the desires of donors, intermarried donors, donors with wives who underwent sham conversions, and those donors who are products of intermarriage, and not even Jewish themselves? Are they simply protecting their influence (Read: hold) on Israel, just like any other politician would do?

Are these scared little, Jews of the exile, worrying their heads over what the goyim (non-Jews) with think?

Or is there something more nefarious going on here, working to fill up the so-called Jewish state with non-Jews? The destruction of the Jewish People from within perhaps?

What makes Ted Deutch and the American Jewish Committee believe that they can dictate to those of us in Israel how we should run our government?

Money.

We live here on the frontlines, missiles, bombs, shootings, stabbings, tractor attacks, and all, making certain that they have a place to come home to, when the Mashi'ah (Messiah), in whom many of them do not even believe, finally arrives. And they expect us to follow orders, or else? Such insolence!

I wish I could say that these Jews (those of them who are actually Jewish) are even Zionists. But, since they do not seem to be interested in having the Land of Israel inhabited by Jews, nor in encouraging Jews from the U. S. to relocate to the Land of Israel (hint: this is what Zionism actually is), I cannot even call them Zionists.

If they want to have a say as to what goes on in Israel, then they need to move to Israel, and invest their blood, sweat, and tears in the homeland of the Jewish People, not in the temporary lands of refuge of the other nations. At the very least, they must begin encouraging mass aliyah (immigration to Israel) from the U. S.

For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. (Isaiah 2:3)
Not the other way around.

As we approach the holiday of Purim, this situation reminds us that the world is upside down and backwards before Geulah (The Redemption), as it is said...

...in the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to rule over them, it was turned around, that the Jews ruled over those who hated them. (Esther 9:1)

Israel's Supreme Court Versus the People

English follows the Hebrew.

Justice Minister Yariv Levin

The newly sworn-in Israeli Government has begun the process of judicial reform that it promised to do during the run-up to its election.

The anti-Torah* opposition has gotten upset, not getting what it wants: power.
*The terms left and right are truly meaningless in Israel, thus "anti-Torah." The current Government is not pro-Torah, but does have some pro-Torah elements.
The Chief Justice of the Israeli Supreme Court, Esther Hayut, declares that the Government's judicial reforms threaten democracy itself.

This is simply not true. Rather, reining in the court moves us closer to a democratic system of government.

The majority of Israelis voted in this government. Its four original factions, Likud, Religious Zionism - Jewish Strength, United Torah Judaism, and Shas - Torah Observant Sephardim, all expressed desires for judicial reform during their campaigns.

In other words, they appear to be fulfilling their election promises.

In response to the Chief Justice's declaration, the newly appointed Minister of Justice Yariv Levin (Likud) called her out for being political, asking her what the name of her political party is.

Needless to say, she was not pleased.

As part of the coalition agreement between Shas and Prime Minister-designate Binyamin Netanyanu (Likud), the Government passed a law allowing Aryeh Deri (Shas) to become a cabinet minister.

The Israeli Supreme Court (Bagatz) quashed the new law. In fact, the ruling was unanimous.

But, if the people elect a government which has promised to implement something that the majority of the people want, such as judicial reform, then a court which stands in the government's way, is standing in the way of the will of the people.

So what is the High Court's motivation? To protect the rights of the minority?

Well, the courts in Israel have repeatedly chipped away at the rights of minority communities, such as Haredi (ultra-orthodox) and so-called settlers in Judea and Samaria. Whereas non-Jewish, African refugees infiltrators, foreign workers, non-Jewish Ukrainians, the numbers of which seem to be increasing exponentially, right under our noses, continue to have their rights propped up and increased.

The court cannot use the excuse of protecting the rights of minority communities. Since they have been doing so selectively. They have simply been legislating from the Bench, in order to further their agenda to diminish, if not entirely eradicate the Jewish nature of the deMOCKratic State of Israel.

Like it or not, Israelis have continued to vote in Governments which choose to fund Haredi and settlement activities. If we did not want such funding to continue, or did not think that these were worth the price of obtaining other objectives, promised by the government, then we would not re-elect them.

This has happened plenty of times over the modern State of Israel's history. Oh wait. The Labor controlled coalitions have also often funded Haredim and select settlers, in exchange for their their political support.

Last night, over 100,000 protestors arrived in Tel-Aviv, the population of which did not vote with the majority. Opposition leader Yair Lapid claims that they came to defend the country, democracy, and the courts.

The truth is that they came to defend the courts' legislative advocacy which benefits them, and which continues us down the path of being like any other non-Jewish nation of the world.

Where were the protests in Jerusalem? There weren't any. The leftist machine did not even bother to bus in their pawns on Shabbat, its usual course of action.

Now we wait to see what will happen.

Will Shas withdraw from the government's coalition, since Deri can no longer serve in the capacity of cabinet minister?

Was the High Court's prevention of Aryeh Deri from becoming a cabinet minister simply an obstacle to the process of judicial reform? But isn't this futile unless the Court had another trick up its sleeve? Or is Hayut betting on the Government eventually imploding, which it might.

Will Shas be patient while PM Netanyahu proceeds with their judicial reforms, and repass the law allowing Deri to become a cabinet minister?

How was it that the High Court was unanimous? Are the other justices also concerned over the potential loss of their power? Or does Hayut have some kind of hold over them?

Was this all a simple act of נקמה (revenge) on Hayut's part? Or was this truly a play against the threat to significantly reduce her Aharon Baraq's* power.?
*Many believe that Esther Hayut is just a puppet of former Chief Justice Aharon Baraq, just like Dorit Beinish, and others were before her.
