דובר הכנסייה הקתולית בישראל, עורך דין פריד ג'ובראן, התייחס באולפן ynet לתיעוד שבו נראה חייל צה"ל מנתץ פסל של ישו בדרום לבנון. הוא אמר: "התפללתי שזה לא אמיתי. האגרסיביות שבתמונה ומה שנובע מהתיעוד הוא מאוד חמור ומטריד. יש דברים שלא עושים - זה היה ממש מקומם". הוא הוסיף כי מדובר ב"חינוך לקוי של הכשרה של לוחמים וחיילים בשטח. כשפוגעים לך במשהו שהוא בנימי נפשך, אי אפשר להישאר אדיש". ג'ובראן הבהיר שהוא מצפה שצה"ל יגנה את האירוע וציין כי החייל אמור להיענש.

מעל 100 רבנים ומנהיגים יהודים מכל הקשת הדתית חתמו על מכתב הקורא למעשה "חילול השם" ומתנצלים בפני נוצרים ברחבי העולם.

רק רגע. האם הם משווים "חילול פסל ישו" עם "חילול שם"? מה הם אומרים בדיוק?

אם הם פשוט אומרים שמעשה זה "חילול השם" מפני שהוא מעצבן ומרגיז 30 אחוז מאוכלוסיית כדור הארץ שלנו, אז הם צריכים לפטר את עורך החדשות ולחפש עורך חדש.

מייסד Israel365, הרב טולי וייס, שארגונו עובד מדי יום עם נוצרים פרו-ישראלים ברחבי העולם, אמר שהוא מרגיש מחויב לפעול באופן מיידי. "כמי שעובד בשיתוף פעולה הדוק עם נוצרים פרו-ישראלים מדי יום, נחרדתי ממעשה חוסר כבוד שכזה כלפי חבריה הקרובים של ישראל וידעתי שעלינו להגיב באופן מיידי."

כלומר, הוא נחרד מהשמדת פסל של עבודה זרה? יש אפילו אוונגליסטים שמזלזלים בפסלים. נכון, אפשר לומר אותנו חיים במתב של "יד הגויים תקיפה", תחת איום מצד לא יהודים, אפילו שאנחנו מתגוררים בארץ.

היה אפשר להפחית את כוח האיום הזה בעבר, אם שמרנו את המצווה הזו:

לֹא-תַטֶּה מִשְׁפָּט, לֹא תַכִּיר פָּנִים; וְלֹא-תִקַּח שֹׁחַד--כִּי הַשֹּׁחַד יְעַוֵּר עֵינֵי חֲכָמִים, וִיסַלֵּף דִּבְרֵי צַדִּיקִם. (דברים טז,יט)

לֹא תַכִּיר פָּנִים: לא לכבד אחד שעומד לפניך יותר מהשני.

רש״י: משקבל שחד ממנו אי אפשר שלא יטה את לבו אצלו להפוך בזכותו.

פסוק זה מדבר על שופטים, על חכמים ועל צדיקים. לכן, אלו שאינם יושבים בדין צריכים להזהר עוד יותר.

הם בוודאי נואשים, שכן הם כוללים את כנסת הרבנים (התנועה הקונסרבטיבית) בישראל, את התנועה המסורתית (התנועה הקונסרבטיבית) בישראל, כמה בתי כנסת קונסרבטיביים ואת הרפורמים.

למעשה, הם קוראים למנהיגים רוחניים קונסרבטיביים ורפורמיים "רבנים". אני תוהה למה הם השמיטו את הריקונסטרוקציוניסטים. האם בסופו של דבר מעריצי נוצרים הללו יעודדו את קבלת נשים כרבנים? או שהם פשוט מנצלים את מי שאפשר לגייס למען מטרתם?

לקונסרבטיבים ולרפורמים יש תירוץ. הם גלובליסטים בעצם, ומעודדים את ההתבוללות, בין אם הם מבינים שזה מה הם עושים ובין אם לא. הם דוגמאות טובות של מה קורה בגלותנו של אדום (עשיו / המערב). לכן, הם מונחים על ידי רגשותיהם. הם נמצאים עמוק בחשיבה גלותית, בניגוד להבנה האמיתית של גאולה. אפשר לומר שהם כתינוקות שנשבו.

אני מניח שגם "לדתיים" ברשימת החותמים הזו יש תירוץ. אבל רק לאלה שמתגוררים בגלות. כל עוד הם בגלות, כלומר, בחו״ל, אין להם ברירה אלא להסתדר עם מארחיהם הנכרים. אבל אני לא בטוח שהם מבדילים בין מקום מגוריהם בחו״ל לבין ארץ ישראל.

לצערנו, רבים מהם לא מתיחסים לשכנים הגויים שלהם כמארחים בארצות המקלט הזמניות. אלא כשותפים בבניית מדינות אלה. הם מזדהים כחברים בחברה שלהם. הם מאמינים שהמדינות האלה גם שלהם.

יותר גרוע מכך, יש רבנים "דתיים" ברשימה זו ששוכחים שהם בגלות, או שגלות היא משהו שונה מאוד ממה שהיא באמת, או שמבחינתם גלותם לא באמת העונש.

אלה שלא ברשימה זו, ומאמינים שהמשיח יבוא וידאג להכל שזקוק לתיקון, אני לא מדבר עליכם. אלא אני מתייחס לאלה שמזדהים כציונים, אך אין להם שום כוונה לעלות למולדתם האמיתית היחידה.

בכל פעם שאני חושב שיהודים האלה כבר השתגעו כמה שאפשר הם מפתיעים אותי בכך שהם מוצאים דרך להשתגע עוד. כלומר. השקפתם הופכת להיות יותר קיצונית.

רבנים אלה בוודאי יודעים שהמילים האלה בספר ויקרא (יט,יח) הן רק חלק הסופי של הפסוק...

...וְאָהַבְתָּ לְרֵעֲךָ כָּמוֹךָ: אֲנִי, יְהוָה....

הפסוק מתחיל ב...

לֹא-תִקֹּם וְלֹא-תִטֹּר אֶת-בְּנֵי עַמֶּךָ,...

עַמֶּךָ: עם ישראל.

כלומר, פסוק זה מורה לישראל איך אנחנו אמורים להתייחס אחד לשני, איך עלינו להתייחס לאחינו היהודים. איך אנחנו צריכים להתייחס לגויים זו סוגיה שונה לגמרי.

"פרשנות יצירתית" כזו היא מה שאנו מצפים מתנועה הרפורמית, כפי שהיא ידועה בכך שצועקת ״צֶדֶק צֶדֶק, תִּרְדֹּף״ (דברים טז,כ), ללא הקשר שאר הפסוק ״לְמַעַן תִּחְיֶה וְיָרַשְׁתָּ אֶת־הָאָרֶץ, אֲשֶׁר־יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ נֹתֵן לָךְ.״. וגם רבים מהם מאמינים שכל פעם המילה גֵּר מופיעה תורה היא אומרת גוי.

כמובן, רבים היהודים שאוהבים את הנוצרים, מאמינים ש"כִּי בֵיתִי, בֵּית־תְּפִלָּה יִקָּרֵא לְכָל־הָעַמִּים" (ישעיהו נו,ז) אומרת לנו שבסדר גמור לעודד לנכרים לעלות להר הבית, בידיעה ברורה שהם יתפללו ליש״ו (ימח שמו וזכרו). אולי כדאי לי לדון ביהודים האלה בכף זכות, ולהניח שהם פספסו את העדות שחבריהם הנוצרים לא מתפללים לאלוהים בשיתוף אל ליושקה (יש״ו) ישירות.

בהחלט, אני לא מעודד אף אחד להסתובב ולהרוס את פסלי אלוהות-שקר של אף מיעוט דתי, בגלל מסיבות שונות. 

אבל, אני מסרב לשבת בשקט ולא קורא לילד בשמו האמיתי.

כִּי-אִם-כֹּה תַעֲשׂוּ, לָהֶם--מִזְבְּחֹתֵיהֶם תִּתֹּצוּ, וּמַצֵּבֹתָם תְּשַׁבֵּרוּ; וַאֲשֵׁירֵהֶם, תְּגַדֵּעוּן, וּפְסִילֵיהֶם, תִּשְׂרְפוּן בָּאֵשׁ.(דברים ז,ה)

But thus you shall deal with them: you shall break down their altars, and dash their pillars in pieces, and hew down their Asherim, and burn their graven images with fire. (Deut. 7:5)

YNET: Catholic Church Spokesman in Israel on Soldier Who Smashed Jesus Statue: 'There Are Things You Don't Do'

The spokesman for the Catholic Church in Israel, attorney Wadie Abunassar, addressed the footage showing an IDF soldier smashing a statue of Jesus in southern Lebanon in the Ynet studio. He said: "I prayed it wasn't real. The aggression in the image and what emerges from the footage is very severe and disturbing. There are things you don't do – this was truly revolting." He added that this is about "poor education and training of fighters and soldiers in the field. When something that is in the depths of your soul is harmed, you cannot remain indifferent." Abunassar clarified that he expects the IDF to condemn the incident and noted that the soldier should be punished.

Over 100 rabbis and Jewish leaders from across the denominational spectrum sign letter calling the act a “desecration of God’s name” and apologizing to Christians worldwide

What a minute. Are they equating "desecration of Jesus statue" with “desecration of God’s name?” What exactly are they suggesting?

If they are just saying it is a “desecration of God’s name” because of the uproar caused, upsetting 30 percent of the our planet's population, then they need to fire their news editor, and get a new one.

Here is a sampling of the signatories to the letter:

• Rabbi Dr. Kenneth Brander, Ohr Torah Stone (Rb. Shlomo Riskin, Founder)

• Shabbos Kestenbaum, PragerU You know him from his activism against anti-semitism on college campuses. Disappointed to see him on this list.
• Rabbinical Assembly members (Conservative Movement)
• Center for Jewish-Christian Understanding
• Blickle Institute for Interfaith Dialogue (Ohr Torah Stone)

And last but not least...

• Rabbi Tuly Weisz, Israel365

Israel365 founder Rabbi Tuly Weisz, whose organization works daily with pro-Israel Christians around the world, said he felt compelled to act immediately. “As someone who works closely with pro-Israel Christians every day, I was appalled by such an act of disrespect to Israel’s closest friends and knew that we needed to respond immediately.”

In other words, he was appalled at the destruction of an idol. Hey. There are even Evangelicals frown upon statuary. True, we could be classified as living in a time of יד הגויים תקיפה, under threat from non-Jews, even while in Israel.

This threat could be lessened, albeit probably not erased entirely, if we heeded another verse in Torah:

לֹא-תַטֶּה מִשְׁפָּט, לֹא תַכִּיר פָּנִים; וְלֹא-תִקַּח שֹׁחַד--כִּי הַשֹּׁחַד יְעַוֵּר עֵינֵי חֲכָמִים, וִיסַלֵּף דִּבְרֵי צַדִּיקִם. (דברים טז,יט)

You shall not wrest judgment; you shalt not respect persons; neither shall you take a gift; for a gift does blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous. (Deut. 16:19)

Respect persons = one over another.

Gift = bribe.

Rashi: When one receives a bribe from him, it is impossible not to incline one's heart to turn to him in his favor.

This verse refers to judges, the wise, and the righteous. So, those who are not sitting in judgment should be even more careful.

They must really be desperate, since they include the Rabbinical Assembly (Conservative Movement) in Israel, the Masorti (Conservative) Movement in Israel, some Conservative Synagogues, and the Reform.

In fact, they refer to Conservative and Reform spiritual leaders as "rabbis." I wonder why they left out the Reconstructionists. Will these Judeo-Christians be advocating for female rabbis next? Or are they just exploiting whomever, and whatever resources they can enlist?

The Conservatives and Reform have an excuse. They are essentially globalists, and advocates for assimilation, whether they realize it or not. They are true products of our Exile in Edom (Esau / The West). So, they really cannot know any better. They are guided by their feelings. They are steeped in an exilic mindset, resistant to the true understanding of Geulah (Redemption).

I suppose that the "orthodox" individuals on this list of signatories also have an excuse, but only those residing in exile. As long as they are in exile, they have to get along with their non-Jewish hosts. I cannot be certain, though, that they differentiate between where they live and Israel.

Unfortunately, many of them do not see non-Jews as their hosts, while in their countries of our temporary refuge. Rather they see themselves as their partners in building up those countries. They seem themselves as full members of these non-Jewish societies. They see these countries as their own.

Worse yet, there are those "orthodox" rabbis on this list either forgotten that they are in exile, or that exile is something very different than it really is, or that their exile is not really the punishment.

Those who are not on this list, and who believe that Mashi'ah (Messiah) will come and take care of everything, I am not talking about you. I am mostly referring to those identifying themselves as Zionists, yet who would never think to relocate to their only true homeland.

Every time I think the usual suspects cannot go further off the edge, they surprise me by finding a way to go that extra few inches.

These rabbis surely know that these words from Lev. 19:18 only make up the end of the verse...

...וְאָהַבְתָּ לְרֵעֲךָ כָּמוֹךָ: אֲנִי, יְהוָה....

...but thou shalt love thy neighbor as yourself....

This verse actually begins...

לֹא-תִקֹּם וְלֹא-תִטֹּר אֶת-בְּנֵי עַמֶּךָ,...

You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people...

Your people = Israel.

In other words, this verse is referring to how Israel must relate to each other, how we are to relate to our fellow Jews. How we are to relate to non-Jews is a different issue entirely.

This is the kind of "creative interpretation," we have come to expect from the Reform Movement, as it well-known for doing to צֶדֶק צֶדֶק, תִּרְדֹּף Justice, justice, you shall pursue (Deut. 16:20), leaving off the rest of the verse, in order that you shall live, and inherit the land that the Lord your God has given you. Another example is that many of them believe that the word גֵּר stranger, signifies any non-Jew, anytime it appears in the Torah.

Of course, many of the Jewish, Christian-lovers believe that "House of Prayer for all nations" (Isaiah 56:7) means it is just fine to encourage non-Jews to ascend the Temple Mount, knowing full well that they will be praying to Jesus (may his name and memory be blotted out). Perhaps I should give them the benefit of the doubt, and assume they missed the memo regarding their Christian allies praying to Yoshke directly, and not through him as an intercessor.

For various reasons, I am certainly not encouraging anyone to go around destroying a religious minority's idols.

But, I refuse to sit silently, and not call a spade, a spade.
