מייד אני חשבתי על סדרת טלוויזיה אמריקנית מסוג מדע בידיוני ״מקביל״. בסדרה הזו מככב זוכה פרס האוסקר השחקן ג'יי. קיי. סימונס בתפקיד כפול.

ויקיפדיה: תקציר עלילת הסדרה
הווארד סילק (משי) עובד כביורוקרט בסוכנות ריגול של האו"ם בברלין במשך שלושים שנה; עם זאת, סיווג התחנה שלו נמוך מדי עבורו מכדי שיספרו לו במה העבודה שלו באמת כרוכה. למעשה, הסוכנות מפקחת על מעבר לעולם מקביל, שנראה זהה אך שונה מהעולם שלנו ונחשף במהלך סוף המלחמה הקרה. סילק "האחר" הוא המקביל שלו מהצד השני והוא, בין היתר, סוכן שטח אשר באופן קבוע חוצה את המעבר על מנת להשיב "אחרים" שחצו ובגדו בסוכנות. המאבק בבוגדים מהצד השני נשפך גם לעולמנו ולמעשה שמים את סילק עצמו ואת אשתו שבתרדמת בסכנת חיים.

שפעת
על מגיפת השפעת, שהחלה בראשית שנות תשעים, יש מאמינים שהיא מחלה מעשה ידי אדם שהתפתחה כנשק במלחמה הקרה בין העולמים המקבילים המתוארת בסדרה החדשה והמקורית הנקראת ״מקביל״ ע״י חברת ״סטראז״.

המחלה מתוארת כנגיף מינכן, לפחות פעם אחת בסדרה. המחלה מתוארת כחום שעולה בטמפרטורה במהירות והחולים הנדבקים מתים או מאושפזים למספר חודשים.

מחלת השפעת היא הסיבה העיקרית של מהסכסוך הנוכחי ב״קומה הרביעית״, משרד היחסים בין העולמים המקבילים של הצד השני וגם הגברת המשבר בצד הראשון (יש להניח שהצד הזה הוא הצד שלנו).

השפעה
הרבה בכירים מאמינים שאנשים העולם בצד הראשון יצרו את המחלה ושחרר אותה בעולם בצד השני דרך המעבר (בין הצדדים). אנשי צד השני אלה מתיחסים בכך התקפה וכעת הם מבקשים לנקום באמצעות תוכנית המכונה ״אינדיגו״. אמילי ברטון של הצד הראשון מצאה ראיות התומכות באמונה זו והציגה אותה בפני ״הנלהלה״ של הצד השני.

מחיר דמים
בצד השני שפעת עוברת מחזיר לבן אדם ומבן אדם לבן אדם. המחלה נפוצה בשנת 1996. המגיפה השמידה את 7% מהאוכלוסייה האנושית במשך תקופה של ארבע שנים למרות המאמצים להפסיק את התפשטות דרך הסגרויות בגבול גרמניה.

על פי נתוני האוכלוסייה שהוצגו, בעולם בצד הראשון היו 6,048,679,354 אנשים בשנת 1999, ואילו בעולם בצד השני היו רק 5,592,724,795, כלומר 452,954,559 אנשים נהרגו בצד השני ...

שינויים בתרבות ובמשפטים
לפי חוקי בריאות הציבור של המדינות העולם בצד השני, להיות חולה ללא לבקש טיפול הוא פשע. אי דיווח על אדם חולה שאינו מבקש טיפול הוא גם עבירה.

מוצרי טבק הם לא חוקיים במדינות אירופה בשנת 1999. למרות שלא ידוע אם יש איסור רשמי, אכילת בשר חזיר היא לפחות טאבו חברתי בעולם בצד השני. זה גם טאבו חברתי ללחוץ יד שם.

אנשי העולם בצד השני נוהגים חבישת מסכות כירורגיות גם לאופנה וגם להגנת הבריאות. נראה שיש מסכות לכל הילדים בכיס או בתיק. הרבה מהמבוגרים חובשים אותן בפרהסיה. (המשך)

למרות שעוד לא ציווו לנו לשמור את הנחיות כאלה, הטופס און ליין המוצג כאן מוכיח שכבר הם מצפים ממנו לעקוב ולדווח על פעילויות של השכנים שלנו. על איזו פעילויות נוספות שלהם אנחנו נצטרך לדווח מחר? זה ממש מהספר 1984 ע״י ג'ורג 'אורוול. אני מניח שהמספר המתחזק והולך של המצלמות בשכונותינו לא מספיק לכוחות השלטון ולכן ״הם" צריכים שאנחנו עוזרים להם. ואין צריך להזכיר לכם האסטרטגיה שלהם לחלק אותנו, כדי לשלוט בנו.

אומרים לנו שהנגיף שלנו כולל שיעול וקשיי נשימה. כו, הרבה מאושפזים. למרות שכרגע נראה שלרוב הנדבקים יש תסמינים קלים או אין תסמינים בכלל. האם המצב הזה ישתנה? איך?

אנשי העולם בצד השני נוהגים חבישת מסכות כירורגיות גם לאופנה וגם להגנת הבריאות.

חיובי! הוסף לזה כפפות ותחנות היגיינה (בתמונה למעלה). ברור שכבר ראינו נקודות חומר חיטוי ידיים במקומות עבודה לפני כעשר שנים.

איך תיראה החברה שלנו אחרי שהמגפה הז תעבור? בתרבויות במזרח התיכון (וגם אזור הים התיכון) יש הרבה יותר נגיעה בידיים מבתרבויות במערב, ובמיוחד בין גברים. האם אנחנו נחזור למנהגינו הקודמים לפני הגעת הנגיף? או נישאר מנותקים זה מזה ... ממש באופן פיזי? ... אפילו יותר מהשפעת המסכות וכפפות.

אני לא בטוח למה אכילת בשר חזיר. למה לא עופות (שפעת עופות) או בקר (ספגת המוח)? שומרי תורה ומצוות ומוסלמים דתיים לא אוכלים חזיר. ראינו כי ברית מילה ושחיטה...

יש מאמינים שהיא מחלה מעשה ידי אדם שהתפתחה כנשק

נראה שכמעט אף אחד מופתע כשהם שומעים את הטענה שהנגיף שלנו הוא מעשה ידי אדם.

הרבה בכירים מאמינים שאנשים העולם בצד הראשון יצרו את המחלה ושחרר אותה בעולם בצד השני

אני מופתע רבים מאיתנו לא כל כך מופתעים בטענה שנגיף זה הוא נשק ביולוגי שבירח ממעבדה בטעות. אבל שהוא הוצא מהמעבדה בכוונה? אנשים מתקשים לקבל את זה הרבה יותר, אפילו עם המאבק של סין נגד גדילת אוכלוסיית יתר הוא מפורסם מאוד, כולל מדיניות "ילד אחד" שלה.

... ב- D2 היו 455,954,559 פחות אנשים.

עכשיו, מה אם אומרים לכם שהמטרה של סין היא לצמצם את אוכלוסייתה ב -500 מיליון אנשים? האם הייתם מאמינים בזה?

I was immediately reminded of the American science fiction, television series, "Counterpart."

IMDB
A hapless UN employee discovers that the agency he works for is hiding a gateway to a parallel dimension that's in a cold war with our own, and where his other self is a top spy. The war slowly heats up thanks to spies from both sides.

And why was I reminded of this television series? Because the story revolves primarily around the impact on one of the parallel worlds by a deadly virus.

The Flu
The Flu epidemic, which began in the early 1990s, is believed to be a man-made illness developed as a weapon in the inter-dimensional cold war depicted on the new Starz Original Series Counterpart.

Referred to as the München (Munich) virus in at least one report, the illness is described as a fever that escalated quickly and resulted in those stricken dying or spending months in hospital.

The Flu is at the heart of much of the current conflict within the ranks on the fourth floor at Dimension Two's  [D2] Office of Interchange and the growing crisis in Dimension One [D1] (presumably our dimension).

Impact
Many high-ranking officials believe Dimension One created the disease and released it into Dimension Two through The Crossing. These D2 individuals view this as an attack and now seek revenge via a program known as Indigo. D1 Emily Burton Silk found evidence that supports this belief and presented it to D2 Management.

Death Toll
Spread from swine to humans as well as from human to human, The Flu became widespread in 1996. The epidemic wiped out 7% of the human population over a period of four years despite efforts to stop the spread via quarantines at the German border.

According to population figures shown, D1 had 6,048,679,354 people in 1999 while D2 had only 5,592,724,795 meaning there were 455,954,559 fewer people in D2...

Cultural and Legal Changes
Dimension Two countries have passed public health laws that make it a crime to be sick without seeking treatment. Failure to report a sick person who is not seeking treatment is also a crime. 

Tobacco products were outlawed in European countries in 1999. While it's unknown if there is an official ban, the eating of pork is at least a social taboo in Dimension Two. It is also a social taboo to shake hands in D2.

Society has also embraced the wearing of surgical masks for both fashion and function. All children seem to carry them while many adults wear them whenever they're in public. (cont.)

Does this story sound familiar to you? It should, because you are living this story.

We may not have reached this point yet. But the online form presented here proves that we are already being expected to monitor and report on our neighbors activities. Which of our neighbors activities are next? This is right out of George Orwell's 1984. I guess that the increasing number of cameras in our neighborhoods are not sufficient to do the job "they" want us to do for them, not to mention stepping their objective of dividing us, in order to control us.

We are told that our virus includes coughing, and difficulties breathing. Quite a few end up in the hospital. Although currently it appears that the vast majority have mild to no symptoms. Will we see this pattern change?

Check. Add to that gloves and hygiene stations (pictured above). Of course, we already started seeing hand sanitizer pop up in workplaces around 10 years ago.

It is also a social taboo to shake hands in D2.

What will our society be like in the aftermath? The Middle East (and Mediterranean) is a lot more tactile (touching) society than in much of the West, especially between men. Although the West seems to have moving in this direction as well. Will we will go back to our norms of interacting? Or will we allow ourselves to remain disconnected from one another...literally? ...above and beyond the masks and gloves.

Not sure why this was put into the plot. Swine flu? Why not poultry (bird flu) or beef (mad cow)? Torah-observant Jews and Muslims believe in a prohibition to eat pork. We have seen that Jewish, ritual circumcision and ritual slaughter has been curtailed or outlawed in some European countries. Only Muslim outrage appears to have slowed down this attack on religious freedoms.

No one seems to be phased at all, when it is suggested this virus is man-made.

Many high-ranking officials believe Dimension One created the disease and released it into Dimension Two through The Crossing. 

Surprisingly, many are are not that phased when it is suggested that this virus is a bio-weapon "accidentally" released from a lab. On purpose? People find this a lot more difficult to swallow, even with China's well-known battle against overpopulation, including its "one-child" policy.

Now, what if you were told that China's goal was to reduce its population by 500 million? Would you believe that?

Whether you believe that "they" must tell us what "they" are going to do to us before "they" do it to us, or not, the pattern here cannot be ignored.

How many other times have this happened before, but failed to notice? Think about it.

Whether you believe that "they" feed storylines to Hollywood or not, you do have to wonder.
