Jewish University Students In The U. S., Where Did You Celebrate Passover?

English follows the Hebrew.

YNET: Students breach campus building as Columbia suspends pro-Palestinian protesters
Wave of Gaza protests rock college campuses across US, with Columbia University at the epicenter; police arrest dozens of students and deploy pepper spray during a pro-Palestinian rally at University of Texas at Austin
Daniel Edelson, New York, News Agencies | 30.04.2024

"We have begun suspending students as part of this next phase of our efforts to ensure safety on our campus," said Ben Chang, a university spokesperson, at a briefing on Monday evening.

"The encampment has created an unwelcoming environment for many of our Jewish students and faculty and a noisy distraction that interferes with the teaching, learning and preparing for final exams," Chang said.

Earlier, Shafik said Columbia would not divest from finances in Israel, a key demand of the protesters. Instead, she offered to invest in health and education in Gaza and make Columbia's direct investment holdings more transparent. (cont.)
Esser Agaroth (2¢):
You could have avoided all this if you were away during Pesah (Passover), celebrating. I am not even talking about the observance of the various mitzvoth (commandments) of Pesah (Passover). Even if you were at the beach, with, or without, a kosher, or not kosher, matzah sandwich, acknowledging that for some reason or another, Pesah is an important time of commemoration for the Jewish People, you would have avoided the violence.
Positive Commandment 54 according to the Ramba"m (Maimonides): To rejoice on the [pilgrimage] Festivals, as it is said, "And you shall rejoice at your festival..." (Deut. 16:14)
This isn't an "I told you so" post. I am simply pointing out the very odd timing of all this going down on campuses, AFTER universities' spring breaks.

Monday was the Seventh Day of Passover, on which the Sea of Reeds was split for us, years ago, where were you? Waiting for the sea of protestors to split for you?

I know that even some of you, whether you "identify" (the buzz word of our time) as Jewish or not, were actually standing along with today's Egyptians in the ultimate act of self-hatred, the hatred of ones own people.

But, I refuse to give up on you, either. Time and time again, Jews have attempted to assimilate, even hide or erase their heritage. But it never worked.

How many Jewish descendants of those who survived the Spanish Inquisition this way are still around?

In Germany, long before its attempt to wipe the Jewish People from the face of the earth, there were Jews who became apostate, joining the Lutheran Protestant Christian faith. What happened to them? Well, first off, the German Lutherans never accepted them into their fold. They were still "just Jews" to them, until they eventually intermarried, and their grandchildren had a chance at acceptance into German society.

I would begin a criticism of the non-Orthodox Movements here. But, mostly of you would just tune that out, and click away from this site. Deep down inside that Jewish neshamah (soul) of yours, you know how many of their members are actually Jewish, not to mention how Jewish those Movements still are.

Watering down Judaism has never been any help to our identity nor People.

Speaking of Orthodox, Yeshiva University [YU] has offered to extend its transfer deadline, allowing Jewish students to complete their studies in a safe, Jewish-based environment. Due to YU's acceptance of federal funding, you would not have to lose out on access to your various, liberal clubs and organizations. I give YU a B for effort.

The only real, ultimate solution is to join us here in Israel, your only, true homeland. At least help save your younger brothers and sisters to avoid this situation of having to battle for your academic freedom. They can come to Israel to study, even in English.
From January 25, 2021:
Do you believe the Israeli Government to be too right-wing for you? Do you believe the Israeli Government to be too left-wing for you? Then come here to be part of transforming it. Invest your lives in your only, true Homeland, and not in your temporary dwelling places of refuge of the non-Jewish nations.

Do you (native Israelis included) think you need to stay abroad to finish your university studies? No, you don't. There are many university programs in Israel, many of which you can study in English. In addition to Reichman University [formerly IDC] in Herzliya, it is possible to study in English for a bachelor's degree from Tel Aviv University, Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan, Machon Lev and Machon Tal in Jerusalem, and more.
There are also graduate studies programs, like the English MBA program at the Technion in Haifa, as well as three medical schools where students study in English, Tel-Aviv, Tzfat (Safed), and Be'er Sheva.
There are also preparatory programs for high school graduates who want to study Hebrew....
Are you targets of anti-Semitism Jew-hatred at your school? So get out already and make aliyah! Don't feel that you're running away like cowards. Instead, view aliyah (immigration to Israel) as running toward your only, true Homeland.
Look. I just want you to get already. And yeah, I know one of the things you're thinking: Why should I come to a country, mostly or completely foreign to me, especially when their in the middle of one war, and under threat of another with Iran?

Well, even though you may not be ready to hear this, this is the worst it has been for Jews in the U. S. ever. Not even the various shootings and beatings in California, New York, Pittsburgh, Poway, Colleyville, and elsewhere have been enough to encourage you to become truly "woke," and see the writing on the wall, that it is time to come home.

They are backing you into a corner. Soon, there will be no place to run, not the Five Towns, not the Hamptons, not the Hollywood Hills, and not Beverly Hills, which was breached during the riots in the 90s, nor anywhere in West Los Angeles.

I know that most of you do not want to believe or accept any of this, but you simply have to.

When will Jews Finally Bring the Passover Offering? Not Today

English follows the Hebrew.

YNET: Police arrest 4 Jews planning to sacrifice Passover offering on Temple Mount
Cops find young goat — believed to be the intended offering — at the home of one of the suspects, foiling an alleged plan to disturb the site's delicate status quo during the holiday

Haim Goldich | 04.14.22

Israel Police on Wednesday arrested four Jewish residents of Jerusalem and the West Bank who allegedly intended to enter the Temple Mount illegally on Passover in order to offer a sacrifice and disturb the site's delicate status quo....

...The police further called on the public “not to give a stage… to extreme fringes that try or call for disturbing order and law. The status quo on the Temple Mount and in other holy places in the city of Jerusalem has been and will continue to be preserved at all times.”

The Returning to the Mountain movement issued a statement in response to the police’s preventive arrests: "The police boasts it is granting freedom of worship to all religions but the reality is shameful...”

..."In recent days, false publications have been circulating on social media about the Temple Mount and the holy places. I want to take the stage and make it clear — these are lies,” said Herzog at the Iftar dinner breaking the Ramadan fast held at his residence in Jerusalem....
Esser Agaroth (2¢):
Enter the Temple Mount "illegally?" You mean they attempted to enter without immersing in a miqwah? (mikveh: natural water source or ritual immersion pool)

So, anyway who longs to perform a mitzvah mid'Oraitha (a commandment explicitly written in the Torah), which has not been performed for a very long time is an extremist?

Say what you will about these Jews encouraging us to return to the Temple Mount, but they are right. There isn't actually any freedom of worship to all religions in Israel, unless of course you're not Jewish.

Appearing to be more concerned with appeasing Arabs and the co-called international community than any Jewish observance on the Holiest site to the Jewish People, rest assured that the President of the "Jewish" State of Israel Yitzchak "Bougie" Herzog is not, I repeat not, a Jewish extremist.

Arabs Attack, Israeli Police Stop and Check Jews

YNET: At least 5 Israelis dead in suspected terror attack in Bnei Brak
Medical authorities say another person hospitalized in critical condition after gunman opens fire in least two locations in the predominately religious city near Tel Aviv; police say attacker is a 27-year-old Palestinian from West Bank
Ynet | 03.29.22, 8:31 PM

Esser Agaroth (2¢):
Be'er Sheva, Hadera, and now B'nei Braq ...

This is how the Ishmaelites (Arabs / Muslims) are accustomed to do here in Israel before and during the fasting month of Ramadan. This year Ramadan coincides with the Hebrew month of Nissan which begins this coming Shabbat. (להבדיל) The Festival of Passover begins two weeks later, in the middle of Nissan.

I have no doubt that the Israeli Government will allow the Ishmaelites to ascend the Temple Mount particularly on Fridays, while preventing Jews from doing the same. Needless to say, once again this year on this Sabbath evening we will not be allowed to bring the Qorban Pesah (Passover offering) to the Temple Mount to be slaughtered and later eaten at the end of the Passover Seder Friday night, without the help of Mashi'ah (the Messiah). May he arrive speedily in our days!

In the meantime, and most unfortunately so, we will continue living the bitter cycle of terror....

And for what do Israeli police officers have enough time to do during these days of terrorist attacks? Stop young men who look like Hilltop Youth and check their vehicle in Jerusalem's Old City,...surrounded by Arabs. (See the above video)

More Evidence of Denial of Services to the Unvaccinated in Israel

PM Netanyahu receiving the vaccine /

YNET: Lod mayor threatens sanctions on residents who refuse to get COVID shot
Mayor Yair Revivo says residents who refuse to get inoculated will be barred from using municipal services, including denying their children entry to schools, in effort to curb pandemic's spread in central city (cont.)

Esser Agaroth (2¢):
I already warned you about the possibility of denying services to those citizens choosing not to be vaccinated. I also warned of the possibility of preventing high school students from sitting for exams, if they have not been vaccinated.

And now we have confirmation from Yair Revivo, the Mayor of Lod, a city in the Greater Tel-Aviv Area, next to Ben-Gurion International Airpot. In spite of it being pointed out to me that Revivo may very well be using this rhetoric to target the Arab community, I believe that no one is safe from having services denied, and other restrictions placed upon them. Target one community, and the precedent will invariably be used to target all other communities.
YNET: Police say enforcing virus in Jerusalem 'different' from Tel Aviv
Chief Superintendent Assi Aharoni tells Ynet police did not intervene in mass funerals in order to prevent 'bloodshed' as officers face backlash over needlessly fining people on park benches in Tel Aviv but keeping the rules lax in Haredi areas

Itay Blumenthal, Eli Senyor, Alexandra Lukash | 02.01.21
Esser Agaroth (2¢):
The government's police force minions claim to be afraid of provoking bloodshed. Haredim accuse the police of having double standards, and targeting them instead of the Left-wing protestors at the Prime Minister's House. The Left also accuses the police of having double standards toward Haredim (ultra-orthodox), and targeting secular residents of Tel-Aviv.

They are all wrong. The Israeli Government is simply maintaining its "divide and conquer" strategy.

The truth is that all three sets of protests, the Haredim, the Leftists, and the Settlers, want the same thing: To remove Prime Minister Netanyahu from power, and they want restrictions removed. The Haredim are focused on religious events, the Leftists on the economy, and the Settlers on being targeted by police. Nevertheless, all three communities want all three categories dealt with.

Meanwhile, the robotic and confused mamalkhtim (religious, yet diehard state loyalists) stand idly by, refusing to question the Government's public health policy, doing nothing to defend the Torah, and by extension refusing to question actions by police.

It was also just pointed out to me that if we "don't behave" on Purim, we'll be locked down punished even more during Passover.

No doubt the mamlakhtim will use "saving a life" as an excuse for their compliance, as well as their virulent criticism of other Israel communities.

Really? And when you can no longer use that excuse anymore, will you still stand idly by?

More Restrictive COVID-19 Guidelines: To Protect us or to Better Control Us?

English follows the Hebrew.

Dear Customers, Due to the shortage, the buying of eggs is limited to 2 cartons of 12/18 or one carton of 30. Shufersal. (translation of the photo above)

Today I set out to finish my Passover shopping. According to the Israeli Ministry of Health's guidelines [and by law] I left the house wearing a scarf. When I got to the Shufersal (formerly Super Sol) branch in my neighborhood I found a line to get in. I did not have to wait long, but the guard would not let me in without a mask. I told him that according to the guidelines that it's totally acceptable to wear a scarf.

He simply repeated that no one is allowed in without a mask, and that they sell them three for 20 NIS ($5.52). I asked him how I could buy a mask if I was not allowed in without one (Catch-22). He seemed to ponder this, and asked me if I was interested in buying one. If I had been, I suppose he would have gotten me a package, and I would have paid for it with the rest of my shopping.

I need to point out that this guard was a young guy, not a regular guard, and was just doing his job, dealing with a newly imposed, company policy.

Luckily some other guy in his car, getting ready to leave, jumped out and offered me a mask for free, saying, "It's new and hasn't even been touched." Even though he was touching it while he was handing it to me. Whatever. He gets an "A" for effort, and the mitzva. I just put it over my scarf.

I certainly support a private business's right to make its own rules, just as I support a customer's choice to shop, or not shop, at said, private business.

But, today, the customer does not have much of a choice, does he? A customer cannot go into a Haredi (ultra-orthodox) neighbor to buy from a larger selection of products and kosher certifications, nor get on a bus to go to any other neighborhood's stores, for that matter. Why? For our "own good," and for "public health and safety."

The Israeli public has yet to begin seeing beef and poultry as luxury items. (hint, hint) After all, the Prime Minister has "promised" that there is plenty of food, including food for Passover, which requires the following of very particular procedures during processing, more so than than during the rest of the year.

The emergency import of eggs, hopefully not yet another luxury item, expects to increase the prime minister's street cred. on the world stage. Dealing with the egg mafia's shenanigans would apparently take too long. We shall see if they will actually be dealt with,...ever, and if other cartels end up rearing their ugly heads.

Wait a minute. Didn't I just express my libertarian leanings with my support of businesses to set their own rules? Yes, I did. Normally I would suggest a reduction of egg buying or boycott. Unfortunately, we Israelis cannot live without our eggs, especially during Passover when they are an essential ingredient in recipes to compensate for our reduced choice in flour options. Many Jews even refrain from using matza meal during Passover, and potato, almond, and walnut flours are expensive and and do not hold together as well as grain flours.

We humans are also lazy, and would rather not bother searching for egg substitutes. Now is your cue to call up that vegan friend of yours, you haven't spoken to for a while.

So, kind of coincidental that all of sudden a couple weeks before Passover, there is an egg shortage, right? No. I do not believe for a minute this was a coincidence, panic buying notwithstanding.

What will be the next shortage we'll have? What will be the next excuse to increase the restrictions on our movement? Which community will be used next as the next scapegoat?

Or are "they" actually doing us a favor (whether they realize it or not) by teaching to us to ready for something worse they expect on the horizon. Or rather, is The Almighty using "them" to help us get ready for something worse on the horizon.

Only time will tell. But, will you be ready?

What the Corona Virus is Doing to Jews that You Hadn't Thought Of

English follows the Hebrew.

Cross-sectional Model of a Coronavirus CC BY-SA 4.0
Even though Jews around the world have just finished their Purim celebrations, probably
the foremost thing in everyone's minds is the Coronavirus, and the associated fear being generated around it.

What are our chances of contracting it? Will we live through the experience? Will our neighbors panic? How will that affect us and our loved ones? The Israeli Government claims there is plenty of food stored, but how will that food be able to get to us?

The Israeli Government has also implemented some of the most severe restrictions of any other nation in the world. This has been causing many challenges for Israelis. But, in the long run, the advantages may end up outweighing the disadvantages.

Israelis travel plans have changed dramatically, particularly with the week-long, Pesah (Passover) holiday only a month away. Jews leaving Israel is on the decrease. Yet, Jews are still able to get into Israel from the outside,...for now, albeit initially having to come in under quarantine.

Remember the 2013 volcanic eruption in Iceland? Countless Jews were unable to get back to Israel after their Pesah vacations. Could that have been a warning not to leave Israel?

Pesah, one of the three pilgrimage festivals along with Shavu'oth and Sukkoth, is actually not the time to leave Israel, and especially not for going back to Egypt, as is popular in Israel today. Rather, Jews are supposed to [do their best to] come to Jerusalem to partake of the Qorban Pesah (Passover Offering), if not to bring it for ritual slaughtering on the Temple Mount (Har HaBayith) themselves.

And speaking of the Temple Mount, in spite of Muslims being allowed to pray there, and in spite the claim that the State of Israel is a democracy deMOCKracy, with freedom of religious expression Prime Minister Netanyahu's stance against Jews being allowed to pray on Temple Mount, appears to have backfired. After Israel's third election in a year, he is short only three votes from being able to form a majority, coalition government.

The stance against Jews being allowed to pray on Temple Mount is not only hypocritical, but also nothing less than anti-Jewish. Some of you will say that I am stating the obvious. But, most of you, perhaps the majority of whom remain in exile, will say that we must be patient, that we could not possibly implement such a policy.

Well, why not? Fear?

Maybe with the fear of the Coronavirus, and an increased realization for the need for prayer, the virus might just be the catalyst we need to change the current policy. In addition, the Prime Minister's need for support from those stricter in Torah observance, than his current Zionist base may end up outweighing his need for approval from the U. S.

Unfortunately, that may come with a statement of support for Christians being able to pray [to their false deity] on the Temple Mount as well. Fortunately, however, this virus has also seriously stemmed Christian tourism (See Tomer Devorah regarding this), and just in time before Easter, the most fundamental celebration in their theology mythology. After all, Christmas is just the celebration of a mythical birthday, just like the Egyptian Phaoroh's birthday mentioned in the Torah. Of course, his birthday was a real event.

In addition, with the new two meters (approx. six feet) distance guideline between individuals put into effect in Israel, Jews may feel farther away from each other. But, men and women are now forced into a more modest manner of relating to one another.

Update (17.03.20): Public transportation will now cease Thursday night, and resume on Sunday morning. That means there will not be any public transportation (what for it!) ... on Shabbat!

Are Jews Being Given Another Warning?
Countless parallels between the exodus from Egypt and the completion of the exodus from our current exile of Edom (Esau /Rome/ The West) have been provided by our Sages.

One of the 10 Plagues preceding the exodus from Egypt, that of דֶּבֶר (disease), easily comes to mind. But, what Jews too often forget it is that our tradition teaches us that up to 80 percent of us remained in Egypt. So, will 80 percent of us remain in exile? Granted many have unfortunately been lost to intermarriage. Many who identify, or otherwise think that they are Jewish, particularly in the U. S., are not really Jewish.

Our rule of thumb regarding prophesy is that positive prophesy will come to be; negative prophesy does not have to. Negative prophesy can be commuted or even cancelled. Of course, that depends on us.

It is likely that the majority of Jews are already residing within the Land of Israel. So, it seems that The Almighty has already been showing us mercy. How much more of His Mercy will he show us?

Is Isolation a Bad Thing?
Many have been, and will continue to be, forced into isolation. Of course, that cannot be easy, and certainly not convenient. But, when it comes to Israel as a nation, it may be just what we need.

We are a people, separate and distinct from all other nations on the planet, and are supposed to stay that way. Even though the gates have been opened for us to return to our ONLY, true homeland of Israel, we have hung on to the notion, which we developed in exile, that we must continue to seek out love and validation from other nations.

The assimilationist, left goes so far as wanting to be just like other nations. But, the right is really not that much different. The left seeks out love and validation from European and American progressives. The right is attracted to the smiles and money of the Christians, either believing they can "handle" their ulterior motives, or choosing to remain in denial about them. Both of these are aspects of the same, of Esau / Edom / The West. Esau appears to be a righteous person (Christian "friends")

Watch this video from Yekutiel Ben-Ya'akov about the spiritual cure for the Coronavirus, including "isolation," and you will learn more about the response around the world to the virus, and how this affects Am Yisra'el.

Tel-Aviv Passover Ducks (Geese?)

Last night I happened upon this pair of ducks. These ducks were walking around the park near Tel Aviv City Hall. They were looking for food in the grass, managing to find some edible items, and were eating what they found, probably including hametz.

They did not seem to be phased by the people around them. And except for one man who was probably a tourist, and myself, I don't think any others enjoying the park noticed the noticed them, or if they did, were not phased by their presence.

Does anyone recognize this variety of duck? Anyone know about their migratory behavior?

Bizarre and Crazy Spring Weather in Israel!

Just at noon today, it was hailing in the central region of Israel! The hail was huge, bigger than chick peas. The Greater Tel Aviv Area is supposed to have a Mediterranean climate, like Southern California, Sydney, Australia, or Capetown, South Africa. It simply does not rain here in mid-April. April is when the hamsin season of heatwaves and sand storms begins.

It is also very odd, and not good, that this occurred only a day after Jews stopped praying for rain, and began praying for dew instead.

Perhaps the Ten Plagues are coming back, before our next geulah (redemption), before our next Exodus, the Exidus from Edom (The West)?

A Bridge Too High?

English follows the Hebrew.

The train will leave Jerusalem for Tel-Aviv from a tunnel
onto this bridge.

YNET: Jerusalem express train takes test run
Asaf Zagrizak, 16 Jan, 2018

Israel to inaugurate its first express electric train line this coming March, running from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem; 'A major upgrade to public transportation,' boasted Transportation Minister Katz during test drive; despite festivities, many challenges remain to meet deadline. (cont.)
Esser Agaroth (2¢):
Slated to begin service Erev Pesah (the day before Passover), the highly anticipated speed train, connecting Jerusalem with Tel-Aviv, will initially not be running as often as first thought, nor will it be as fast as once thought.

But, whatever the hold-ups, obstacles, and other pitfalls the new rail line must face, the main question which has yet to be asked is....
"Who in his right mind would ride a speed train across a bridge this high??!!"

The Omer of Barley is Ready

Hol HaMo'ed Pesah/5th Day of the Omer/5777

Wild barley in the Sharon region of Israel ready for harvesting. If we had a Beth HaMiqdash (Temple), we could have offered the Omer of Barley four days ago as we are commanded to do.

Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them: When ye are come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring the sheaf of the first-fruits of your harvest unto the priest. (Lev. 23:10)

Passover BBQ

I know this may sound crazy, but i am sitting here on my roof, barbecuing before Yom Tov. Nope. No balcony in my current apartment.

Of course, it is mutar (permissible) to cook on Yom Tov, even for Shabboth, via Eruv Tavshilin. However, after you read this, I believe you will know I chose to doing the על האש/Al HaAish (barbecuing) before Yom Tov.

Pardon the blurriness. It is either due to the smoke, or to the angling of my laptop's
built-in webcam, which wobbled, or both.
First off, I live on the fourth floor, called the fifth floor in the U. S., without an elevator. Since my floor is also the top floor, I thought it would be easier to go up on the roof. I believe I remember seeing it done. Nevertheless, I can see small barbecues like my own on the roofs of neighboring buildings. So, I thought I would give it a shot.

My first mistake was climbing up the ladder to the roof barefoot. At first, I did not mind, but when I starting having to carry things up one-handed, my feet started to hurt. Most of you know that I am not a big fan of shoes, but am willing to tolerate sandals. Although I am not representative of all San Diegeños, this is certainly an artifact from having been born and raised there. Fortunately, we are also no strangers to barbecuing, albeit my friends from Texas may argue about our relative barbecuing skills.

Fellow bloggers Jameel @ The Muqata and Rafi @ Life In Israel may also want to chime in on barbecuing, one of their favor pastimes. Lucky them, they do not have to climb up onto roofs!

But, I digress...

My second mistake was carrying things up, which are going to be a lot harder for me to carry down,...one-handed.

My worries included silly things like the smoke blowing back [down] into the building, disturbing the neighbors, and serious things like falling off the roof and/or burning the building down. The main reason for barbecuing before Yom Tov was safety. I would rather stick around by the coals, and wait for them to burn down, instead of chancing leaving the barbecue on the roof unattended.

The photo also shows pipes running out of a neighbor's dude shemesh (water heater). There are more than a few pieces of equipment up here to avoid damaging.

I was also worried about something falling off the roof, and then being the lucky one to get a citation for littering, something which is not as strange in Israel as you might think. And speaking of life in Israel.

I am not so worried about the time. I am going out tonight, and can just cook everything else tomorrow morning for lunch. Of course, once these hosts of mine read this post, they may regret telling me not to "...worry about bringing anything." (Tee-Hee!)

I am using an particular brand of American charcoal, which is probably even more poisonous, and industrial strength carcinogenic than other brands (...and thus will remain nameless, so that I do not get sued). But, it got started very quickly, saving me some time. Olive wood is recommended.

Now that the grill is starting to cool down, I am going to risk beginning to bring things down from the roof. Before I leave the house, I intend to come back up, and take down the barbecue, just in case.

Needless to say, after the first trip down, I put sandals on.

Oh, and by the way, a bag of mine just fell off the roof. I'll let you know if I get that citation, I mentioned above.

Hag Same'ah and Shabboth Shalom!

Netanayhu's "Jewish State Law" Is Not Really Jewish

JPost.com: Cabinet approves 'Jewish state bill'

PM says he "can't run the country with coalition's ultimatums" as cabinet vote descends into shouting match, Livni accuses him of wanting to fire her, Lapid.

The cabinet voted in favor of the controversial "Jewish state bill," with the preceding discussion descended into a shouting match between ministers on Sunday.

“People ask who needs this bill; we have managed 66 years without it,” Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said ahead of the meeting. “And I ask, who needs the Basic Law: Human Dignity and Liberty, we managed 45 years without it. We need both,” he said. “Israel is a Jewish democratic state. There are those who want democracy to take precedence over Judaism, and those who want Judaism to take precedence over democracy. In the law that I am bringing, both principles are equal and must be given equal consideration.”

Netanyahu said Israel is the national home of the Jewish people where there are equal rights for every citizen. “But there are national rights only for the Jewish people; a flag, anthem, the right of every Jew to immigrate to Israel, and other national symbols,” he said. (cont.)

Esser Agaroth (2¢):
There are those who might say that Prime Minister Netanyahu is using the recent increase in acts of Arab terrorism to push through this legislation, taking advantage of a rising tide of nationalism. And, they might be right.

However, just like his predecessors, he has taken this nationalism on detour away from the Jewish nationalist path, in favor of an Israeli nationalist path,... a secular, Israeli nationalist path. In other words, nothing much has changed.

To sell his scam, Netanyahu keeps a few sprinkles of Jewish symbolism, as well as the ultimate cherry on top, a "Jewish" national flag. The Temple's Menorah remains on the seal of the same State which has absolutely no intention of rebuilding the Temple, let alone asserting full control over it. In reality, Netanyahu has not added anything new. Instead, he has taken steps to fortify the State's protection against anything which could risk its being further influenced by Judaism.

The manifestation of the Prime Minister’s proposal will be something like that of assimilated, North American Jews proudly displaying their Hannukah Menorahs during the month of December, and perhaps even overemphasizing their eating of matzah during Passover, ie. around Easter time, yet do not necessarily have any deep understanding of the reasons behind what they are doing.

The difference between the prime minister and those assimilated Jews in North America, is that the latter are trying their best to discover their identity. They simply have not yet found the guidance and direction to do so. On the other hand, Netanyahu appears to be continuing one of the objectives initiated by the Labor Zionists, the de-Judaising of Jewish Nationism. The Labor Zionists have attempted all along, to disconnect Zionism from its only true source, the Torah.
“Israel is a Jewish democratic state. There are those who want democracy to take precedence over Judaism, and those who want Judaism to take precedence over democracy. In the law that I am bringing, both principles are equal and must be given equal consideration.”
Whether the democracy of the Hellenism we fought against, culminating in the first celebration of Hanukkah, or the current manifestation of democracy, neither is fully compatible with Torah, let alone being equal with it.

Some like to bring up how the members of the Sanhedrin “voted,” failing to recognize the profound differences between how and why the Sanhedrin “voted,” and how citizens of [real] democratic countries vote today. The Sanhedrin attempted, and will again attempt in the future, to pin-point what The Almighty wants from us, based on the Tora, both Written and Oral, which has been handed down to us over the generations. Whereas, in the [real] democracies of today, people vote for what they want for themselves. Furthermore, not every citizen in today’s democracies would be permitted to serve on the Sanhedrin, or for that matter, on any Jewish courts.

Does the Torah allow for the freedom of speech? Certainly not. Of course, the deMOCKratic, Israeli Government does not allow for it either.

These are only two of the many examples as to how Torah and democracy are not compatible. The list goes on.

Netanyahu appears to be trying to beat us to the punch, acknowledging that there are those who place the Torah on a higher authority than man-made laws, Israeli, international, or otherwise. There are those who dare to believe that the Torah touches every aspect of a Jew’s life, and not just what he can put into his mouth and what he can do on Shabbath, are known by the dirty word “extremist.” After all, this is technically an “extreme” position to take.

Let us hope that Netanyahu’s new laws will not be used to hammer down on Jews. Now you know why I am against the death penalty.
“…the right of every Jew to immigrate to Israel,…”
What?! Does Prime Minister Netanyahu’s proposed law include a change in the “Law of Return,” to cover only those individuals who are really Jewish? Even Ashkenazy Chief Rabbi David Lau has suggested that chages in the “Law of Return” be made. Will non-Jews, even those with one Jewish grandparent, real or theoretical, with or without proof, now be prevented from immigrating to Israel? This is what the Torah allows, with the addition of gerei toshav, non-Jewish resident aliens who have accepted the Seven Noahide Laws.

Later on in the report from JPost.com…
“I brought the principles of the law in which I believe, the principles that appear in the Independence Scroll,” Netanyahu stated.
From the Independence Scroll, NOT the Torah Scroll.

This final statement of the Israeli Prime Minister pretty much sums it up.

The Esser Agaroth (10 Agorot) Controversy

I am very surprised that I missed this one, considering its name!

Wikipedia: 10 Agorot Controversy

10 Agaroth Coin
front and back

The ten agorot controversy refers to a conspiracy theory promoted by Palestine Liberation Organization chairman Yasser Arafat's appearance at a specially convened session of the UN Security Council in Geneva on 25 May 1990. At the session Arafat claimed that the obverse design of an Israeli ten agorot coin showed a map of "Greater Israel" that represented Zionist expansionist goals.

Bank Of Israel Logo

To support his claims Arafat produced a paper by Gwyn Rowley of the University of Sheffield published in GeoJournal. The paper titled "Developing Perspectives upon the Areal Extent of Israel: An Outline Evaluation" raised the question of what the maximum territorial extents of Eretz Yisrael were in the eyes of Israelis. As part of this inquiry Rowley presented a map of the Middle East with a superimposed outline based on the embossed pattern of a contemporary 10 agorot coin. In the text Rowley surmised:
Whereas Israel has never formally defined its borders one possible indication of Israel's broader territorial ambitions might be seen in the Israeli ten agorot coin which carries a map, seemingly depicting an area that would extend over to encompass present-day Amman, Beirut, Baghdad, Damascus and the N [northern] parts of Saudi Arabia. This same territorial depiction was carried on the earlier one sheqal coin. (cont.)
Esser Agaroth (2¢):
Gee. You would have thought that this "researcher" would have looked up what the Torah had to say on the topic of the "maximum territorial extents of Eretz Yisrael."

"In that day the Lord made a covenant with Avram, saying: 'To your seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates.' the Kenite, and the Kenizzite, and the Kadmonite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Rephaim, and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Girgashite, and the Jebusite.'"
Genesis 15:18-21

He could have even claimed the step-by-step progression of the "Zionist expansionist goals," with the following [approximate] map (Josh. 13:1-19:51). If The Almighty was trying to convey a message to His People through this Arab terrorist extraordinaire, it would not be the first time He has used a non-Jew or anti-Torah Jew to do so.

Of course, Arafat (may his name and memory be blotted out!) was wrong about his claim, but he should have been right.

Not only should we have held this vision in our hearts of Ge'ulah (Redemption) and the eventual borders of Israel, as promised in The Almighty's Holy Torah, but we should never be afraid nor embarrassed to be open about this vision. Too long we have been "afraid of upsetting the goyim (non-Jews), afraid of what they will think of us." Even though we have [potential] Jewish sovereignty over Eretz Yisra'el for the first time in thousands of years of foreign occupation, and have the power to assert our claim over Yehudah and Shomron (Judea and Samaria), and Har HaBayith (Temple Mount), for example, our galuth (exile) mentality persists in telling us that "we can't," and by extension, that "The Almighty will not aid us" in these endeavors (חו״ח).

In other words, most of those Jews calling themselves "Religious Zionists," those supposedly interested in paving the way for Ge'ulah with action, in addition to prayer and Torah study, are actually standing in the way of Ge'ulah.
Rabbi: "We can't bring the Qorban Pesah (Passover Sacrifice)."
Joe Jew: "Why not?"
Rabbi: "Because we're not ready."
Gee, I do not recall this consideration EVER being mentioned in ANY halakhic (Torah legal) source regarding this misswah (commandment).
Rabbi: "We cannot go onto Har HaBayith. It is forbidden."
Joe Jew: "Rabbi Moshe Tendler ascends Har HaBayith."
Rabbi: "I am not going to comment on that. It's forbidden."
Better yet, what about...
Joe Jew: "We have it in our power to annex Yehudah and Shomron, and to take full control over Har HaBayith."
Rabbi: (laughs) You have got be kidding. The Arabs would start the Third Intifada! The State must cautious regarding such things, and we must support the State. Am Yisra'el cannot afford to upset the "international community."
Are you vomiting yet, like I am, while I write this?

These are the Mamlakhtim, the diehard State-loyalists, those who confuse the State's laws with Torah. Thanks to them, Arafat's claim doesn't have a chance in hell of having any truth to it.

No, I do not wish for a Zionist conspiracy. I simply pray for openness and honestly regarding the Torah's message, which is that all of Eretz Yisra'el (Land of Israel) belongs to Am Yisra'el.

This is not because we were here first. We learn from Rabbi Shlomo Yitzhaqi's [Rash"i'] commentary, citing  on last week's Torah portion, just how irrelevant it is to be the first to arrive someplace. Look what happened to the Canaanites. Look what happened to us. Think about what we could be doing not, but aren't.

If we are unable to experience the vision spelled out in the Torah, illustrated in the maps above, and claimed to be depicted on the 10 Agaroth coin, and continue to insist that we will be rescued, without having to get our hands dirty, then I guarantee you that we will be making the process of Ge'ulah a heck of a lot more difficult for ourselves than necessary.

Are Arab Christians Aramaens?

Israeli Christians' New Nationality: Aramaean, not Arab
Many of Israel's 160,0000 Christians, hitherto registered as Arabs, eligible to re-register as Aramaeans; their leaders are ecstatic.

Ido Ben Porat, September 17, 2014

Interior Minister Gideon Saar has instructed the Population, Immigration and Border Authority (PIBA) to allow the registration of a new nationality – Aramaean – in the identity cards of Christian citizens who were registered as Arabs until now.

In a letter to PIBA Director Amnon Ben-Ami, Saar wrote that he has “received three opinions according to which the existence of the Aramaean nationality is clear and obvious, as required by the Supreme Court's ruling.”

"The conditions required by the ruling for proving the existence of the nationality are present – including historical heritage, religion, culture, descent and language," he determined. (cont.)

(Tip: Jews News)

Well, of course, Aramaens exist as a people! After all, we Jews are partially descending from them. Rivqah and her nieces, Leah and Rahel, all came from the same Aramaen family.

And not only that, as Aramaen attempted to annihilate us, and is seen as worse than Pharoah, as we learn in the Passover Hagadah.

Go and learn, that which Laban the Aramaen sought to do to our forefather Ya'aqov--the evil Pharoah did not even command except for the males; but Laban sought to uproot everyone, as it is said, "My father was a wandering Aramaen, and he down to Egypt, and sorjourned there" (Deut. 26:5). This teaches that he did not go down to be invested, rather to dwell there temporarily, as is it said, "And he said to Pharoah, we came to sorjourn in the land, for there isn't any shepherding for the flock for your servants, for the drought is heavy in the land of Cana'an; and now please let us dwell in the land of Goshen." (Gen. 47:4)
But, how on earth are we supposed to believe that the Arab Christians are Aramaens??

Previously, I have been critical of Arab affairs expert, Dr. Mordechai Keidar. But, that was because I believed he was taking a wrong turn away from the Torah, when considering any solutions for the Arab/Yishma'elite problem which Israel faces day by day, hour by hour.

Here, too, Keidar provides an excellent academic analysis, regarding the historical and anthropological issues. This is why I bother posting a link to his Op-Ed here with a snippet.

Arutz 7 Op-Ed: Is There Really an Aramean Nation?
Are the Israeli Christians part of the ancient Aramean people rather than Arabs?

Dr. Mordechai Kedar, September 27, 2014

Dr. Mordechai Keidar
One of the last things Israel's Interior Minister Gideon Saar did before resigning from the Knesset was to recognize the Israeli Christians as members of the Aramean nation. The decision caused a media uproar, especially in the Arab sector, with most critics saying that there is no Aramaic nation and that the real reason for this step was an attempt to cause a split in the Arab population of Israel so as to "divide and conquer" and gain control of the Arab sector.

This calls for an investigation and an investigation into the veracity of an Aramean nation's existence must be conducted on two planes: the historic-lingual-religious one and the civilian one. (cont.)
However, once Keidar fails to relate to the only authority which matters, and I am not talking about the State of Israel's Interior Ministry either. Labels, new and old, are irrelevant here.

No one, not even most rabbis, dares to ask what the Torah says regarding the issue of which non-Jews are allowed to reside in Eretz Yisra'el, even temporarily. Forget the issue whether we have the power to change the status quo or not. No one dares to ask!

Where did Jews Spend their Passover Vacations?

YNET: Tens of thousands of Jews living abroad come to Israel for Passover
Tourism ministry estimates about 125,000 visitors will arrive in Israel for Jewish holiday.

Noam (Dabul) Dvir, April 14, 2014

Tens of thousands of Jews living abroad arrived in Israel this week to share the Passover Seder with family members in the Holy Land.

"It's good to come here for Passover; the weather here is excellent and in Denmark it's cold," said Emil Denino who arrived from Copenhagen with his daughter for a Seder in Haifa.

"It's not my first time," he said, "but it's my daughter's first time in Israel as an adult. Last time we came she was just three-years-old. It's very exciting for us to be here for Passover." (cont.)

Well, that's nice. Maybe they will stay, or at least have a nice experience, encouraging them to return someday soon. Meanwhile,...

YNET: Israelis flock to Turkey for Passover
Some 24,000 Israelis to spend Jewish holiday in resort city of Antalya, a 150% increase in number of passengers from last year.

Danny Sadeh, April 12, 2014

Thousands of Israelis are heading to the Turkish resort city of Antalya for the Passover holiday, after years of avoiding Turkey's "all-inclusive" clubs due to the country's strained diplomatic relations with Israel.

The reason is mainly economical. "At these prices, one doesn't think twice," one of the Israeli tourists explains. (cont.)
According to what I saw on Ynet.co.il, the most popular destination out of Ben-Gurion International Airport this Pesah was Turkey, more specifically, Antalya.
Turkish PM Erdoğan

Such short memories we have.

We apologized to Turkey for defending our borders against hostile, invading thugs, armed with knives and iron bars, and losing one of our soldiers in the process.

Then history repeats itself, when the apology is not considered to be good enough.

Yet, all the Israeli tourist mentioned above can continue saying is...
"I'm not in favor of boycotts anywhere. I have a vacation package here with a price no one can compete with. Apart from that, I know the Turks are yearning for tourists from Israel."
We are indeed a "stiff-necked people" (Ex. 32:9). But I am not entirely sure that the Torah was referring to our self-destructive tendencies of today.

Actually, now that I think about it, it quite possible was.
