Dear JTA: No, I Will Not be Donating to you this year, nor any year...

כ״ג לחודש השישי תשע״ד
13th Anniversary of the fall of the Twin Towers (9/11)
New York, NY

Did any of you receive the following e-mail request, like I did?

Dear JTA Reader,

How are European Jews coping with the wave of hatred and violence against them sparked by the Gaza war? Is Hungary trying to whitewash its role in the Holocaust? Do Kiev’s Jews need self-defense groups? Will a right-wing surge in Europe undermine tolerance?

Jewish news doesn’t stop in the United States and Israel. JTA’s dedicated correspondents are tracking developments in dozens of countries.

It’s a massive job covering the global Jewish community – never-ending, sometimes dangerous and always costly. Can you please help us?

A contribution of $50 or $100 will support our global team of correspondents. They dig for facts, expose myths, reveal hidden truths and bring the full story to you and to the world.

I hope we can count on your support.
Thank you.

Esser Agaroth (2¢):
Dear Ami,

No, I cannot help you, not this year, and probably not any year.

How are European Jews coping with the wave of hatred and violence against them sparked by the Gaza war?

Sparked by the Gaza War? Nothing was sparked by the Gaza War. Re-awakened, perhaps, but not sparked. It has also been there, since the birth of Yishma'el (Arabs/Mulims) and since Esau (The West) first went out to murder his brother Ya'aqov (us).

Is Hungary trying to whitewash its role in the Holocaust?

What about how the Labor Zionists have tried to whitewash their tole in the Holocaust?

Do Kiev’s Jews need self-defense groups?

No, they do not. They just need to get out of there, and any assistance to do so.

Will a right-wing surge in Europe undermine tolerance?

Right-wing surge?! What about a left-wing surge, a middle-wing surge, or an upside-down-wing surge?

But, would a story or report with any of the themes I propose above ever make it into the JTA?

How is it that right-wing surge was mentioned, but there wasn't any mention of Muslims? Don't want to hurt anyone's feelings? Or just a little employing a little "creativity" to your letter.

Objective journalism, indeed!

And, you ask that I donate money to the JTA? For what? So that I can be a collaborator in keeping the Jewish People locked in their prison of co-dependent exile?

No thank you.

Times Of Israel: Armed with bats, Kiev Jews look to combat anti-Semitism
Members of eight-man unit set up in recent weeks in Ukrainian capital have IDF experience or martial arts skills

Ukrainian Jews with combat skills formed a rapid intervention force to stop anti-Semitic attacks.

The force, which was set up in recent weeks, currently is made up of eight men who served in the Ukrainian or Israeli armies or have martial arts skills, the team’s founder, Tzvi Arieli, told JTA Thursday.

The defenders are armed with baseball bats that an American donor whose family hails from Kiev sent the team, he added. “We are trying to raise funds for bullet-proof vests which would greatly increase safety if the situation escalates,” said Arieli, a Latvia-born former soldier of a special forces unit in the Israel Defense Forces who lives in Ukraine.

Arieli said he set up the task force — which now has its own Facebook page – at the request of Rabbi Yaakov Dov Bleich, a chief rabbi of Ukraine, following a series of anti-Semitic attacks that occurred in Kiev and beyond in the wake of a bloody revolution that erupted in November over former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych’s alleged corruption and perceived allegiance to Russia. (cont.)

Esser Agaroth (2¢):
To My Dear Jewish Brothers and Sisters in the Ukraine,

I admire you.

I love you.

I worry about you.

I appreciate that you are protecting yourselves, your families, and neighbors, instead of hiding, abandoning your community, or collaborating with the goyim. (God forbid!)

Jews are not just scholars traditionally. We are also warriors.

However, the only viable, long-term solution for Jews living in the Ukraine, or for that matter,

I was very surprised to hear that some of the members of Kiev's Jewish rapid-intervention force had lived in Israel previously, and were even members

The reasons you chose to return to the Ukraine, Russia, Latvia, or wherever are in the past, and no longer relevant.

For your own physical and spiritual safety, you must now leave the land of your exile, and return to your only, true

Some rabbis will tell you to stay, and not to give up on the Ukraine, and the Ukrainian Jewish Community.

DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM!

There are those of you who will want to stay, and protect the elderly, who do not believe that they would be able to come (immigrate). Try to encourage them anyway.

Also please do not worry about your feelings toward the State of Israel or its government. This is not about Jews returning to The State; this is about Jews returning to their Land. Dealing with the State's bureaucracy is the easiest way we have currently to stay in the Land.

Not getting help from the Jewish Agency? Can't afford the train ticket to its nearest office?

I would not be surprised; I have heard this many times before.

If you can afford it, then worry about the legalities later. Get a hold of any documents you have proving your status as a Jew (eg. letter from a rabbi, your mother's ketubbah/Jewish marriage contract, brit milah/Jewish Naming certificate, etc.)

If you cannot, it is high time to force the issue.

See? If you do your part, HaShem does the rest.

Pentagon Pandering: Soldiers may choose Halal or Halal, but not Kosher

ו' לחודש השנים עשר תשע"ד

Jewish Daily Forward: Orthodox Demand Kosher Army Meals
JTA, February 4, 2014

Agudath Israel of America asked the Pentagon to restore kosher field meals.

The Orthodox umbrella group on Monday said that the Defense Logistics Agency had solicited a bid in April for kosher and halal “meals ready to eat,” but had recast the solicitation last month to include only halal, which adhere to Muslim religious precepts.

Rabbi Abba Cohen
“As things stand now, no kosher MREs are being produced and, as previous stock has become depleted, there is essentially nothing currently available for Jewish members of the Armed Forces that meet their religious dietary needs,” Abba Cohen, Agudah’s Washington director, said in a release. “How long this state of affairs will continue is unknown.”

Cohen said he wrote Maj. Gen. Donald Rutherford, the top military chaplain, expressing his “deep concern” but also confidence “that the department will find a way to address the dietary needs of Jewish service personnel” given that the Pentagon is showing “greater interest in broadening religious accommodation” in the military.

The Pentagon announced last month that U.S. troops may accommodate religious beliefs in their garb or grooming, including kippahs and beards for Jewish servicemen, as long as it does not frustrate their mission.

Cohen told JTA that Rutherford and his staff already are looking into the matter and contacting the relevant agencies.

The U.S. military introduced kosher MREs in 1999, a result of complaints from Jewish troops during the 1991 Gulf War that such meals were not available.

(Tip: Comfortably Frum)

Esser Agaroth (2¢):

Nobody should really be surprised by this marginalization of Jews and pandering to Muslims. I guess throws Jewish-control conspiracy theories out the window, huh?

Of course, Comfortably Frum aptly states,...

"I cannot understand why a Religious Jew would want to serve in a foreign army (by choice, no less)."

Woody Allen
Brilliant, but nebachy
My only answer to this is these Jews are probably looking for acceptance from their neighbors, wanting to feel part of something, and have not found that sense in their own Jewish communities.

These Jews have also apparently, not yet discovered the various Israeli Defense Forces [IDF] programs, allowing them to bring out their internal Jewish warrior, yet to be acknowledged by their rabbis and/or Jewish community elders. That goes doubly so for those Jews having only had negative experiences, if any experience at all, with a Jewish community.

Rabbi Meir Kahane
IDF programs include MARVA, volunteer enlistment, and, of course my favorite, making aliyah (immigrating to Israel). No one is suggesting that leaving ones family, and immigrating to Israel to become a "lone soldier" is easy. Yet, many have done it, including Comfortably Frum, Daniel from Heart Of Adam, Eitan from A Jewish Israel, and countless others.

Rabbi Meir Kahane hy"d, among several other rabbis, reminded us that Jews have traditionally been scholar warriors. We have only reverted back into our nebachy shells (alla Woody Allen-types), thinking this was our best strategy for survival in galuth (exile), for the past 2,000 or so years.

Of course, there have been a handful of Jewish soldiers of foreign armies, who have brought the skills which they have learned through their military experiences here to Israel, for Israel's benefit.

David Stern, Martial Arts Instructor and former U. S. Marine
(Photo: Itamar Development Foundation)

Nonetheless, other than the occasional, misdirected game of basketball or gym workouts, we Jews are still need to break out of our behind the scenes, paper pushing, whiny and neurotic, nebachy cocoons.

Still think that not having kosher rations available in the U. S. military,  side by side with their halal counterparts is not fair?

Well, you are right; it isn't fair. But, remember, one of the reasons behind kashruth is that it is suppose to separate out from from all others. So, perhaps, there are not supposed to be kosher rations in the U. S. military, because there aren't supposed to be any Jews in the U. S. Military.

And perhaps, just perhaps, this recent occurrence within the U. S. military was supposed to remind us of that.

And, maybe, just maybe, now that Eretz Yisra'el (Land of Israel), a Jew's only true Homeland, has been re-opened up as a place where Jews may reside, then Eretz Yisra'el is where we Jews are supposed to be, and supposed to eat our separate, kosher meals.

Dutch Pandering to Arabs: Surprised?

ו' לחודש האחד עשר תשע"ד

JPost: Dutch soccer team ditches Israeli player for Abu Dhabi match
JTA, January 6, 2014

Dan Mori
Vitesse Arnhem
Team facing criticism for agreeing to play matches despite United Arab Emirates' refusal to let Israeli defender Dan Mori into the country.

A Dutch soccer team is facing criticism for playing in Abu Dhabi despite the emirate’s refusal to let in the team’s Israeli defender.

Two Dutch politicians and several media criticized the team Vitesse from Arnhem over the weekend for agreeing to play in Abu Dhabi despite the refusal Saturday to let Dan Mori into the country for matches against two German teams.

Geert Wilders, leader of the rightist, pro-Israel Party for Freedom, on Sunday called the team cowardly on his Twitter account. “Vitesse shouldn’t have gone to the United Arab Emirates to protest the refusal to let Mori in. They are now accepting the emirates’ Jew-hate. Cowardly.” (cont.)

Esser Agaroth (2¢):
I am really not sure what else I can add to this report, except to ask you if you are really that surprised that the Dutch would pander to Arabs.

I have no doubt that the line will be publicized about the sacrifice of the few or the one for the sake of the team, and that this was not a political decision, but rather a practical one.

We have already heard excuse in the book.

French Jews are Finally Getting It; Israeli Politicians Still Don't

ראש החודש האחד עשר תשע"ד

MKs say anti-Semitism in Europe Could Turn Violent
Growing figures are ‘alarming,’ warns Knesset Speaker Edelstein; French immigration to Israel increased 63% over past year.
Sam Sokol and JTA, December 31, 2013

Minister Yo'el "Yuli" Edelstein
Speaker of the K'nesseth

Growing European anti-Semitism might become violent, lawmakers attending a session of the Knesset Committee for Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs stated on Monday.

The meeting came as an inverted Nazi salute known as the quenelle, invented and popularized by the anti-Semitic comedian Dieudonne M’balla M’balla, was gaining popularity in France.

MK Yo'el Razbozov
Purim 5773
Committee chairman MK Yoel Razbozov (Yesh Atid) called on MKs at the hearing to work to “suppress” such manifestations of hate. He also called on the nations of Europe and the European Union to promote tolerance. Without decisive action, he stated, anti-Semitic sentiment “might develop into violent action.”

MK Reuven Rivlin (Likud-Beytenu) stated that anti-Semitism was “not a danger to the State of Israel,” although it was abroad.

“Anti-Semitism is dangerous to the world, as it has been shown in the past,” Rivlin said. “Therefore, the duty [to combat it] rests primarily on the countries themselves and on leadership in the Christian world.”

Use of the quenelle salute has recently soared. Hundreds of quenelle photos can be found on anti-Semitic forums and on Facebook. Others showing it being performed at Jewish sites and Nazi concentration camps have become especially popular.

Nicolas Anelka
"quenelle"
The gesture has also been used by a soccer star (right), soldiers guarding a Parisian synagogue and a French national playing in the NBA. While civil servants could face disciplinary action over the quenelle, rank and file French citizens can perform it with impunity.

Anti-Semitism has become a major problem in France, where attacks against Jews have risen significantly since the turn of the millennium due to an influx of Muslim immigrants.

According to a recent study by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), 21 percent of French Jews reported experiencing at least one anti-Semitic incident during the past year.

At Monday’s committee hearing, Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein (Likud) compared anti-Semitism to a stream that, every time one tries to block it, finds another path to “break out.”

Citing the FRA report, Edelstein described the figures it presented as “alarming,” adding that law enforcement must deal with the problem before it spreads. Violence might “begin with Jews, but it does not end with them,” he said.

French immigration to Israel has increased by 63% over the past year, according to new figures released by the Immigration and Absorption Ministry in conjunction with the Jewish Agency for Israel. Things have gotten so bad there that most Jewish parents enroll their children in private schools because of anti-Semitism, a leader of France’s Jewish community said last month during an interview.

Esser Agaroth (2¢):
"French immigration to Israel has increased by 63% over the past year."

That, Speaker Edelstein, is a good thing! French Jews are waking up, Thank God!

Unfortunately, they have been coming, quite possibly as a reaction to the proverbial kick in the pants they have been getting in France. Nevertheless, they are coming, coming to their only truly Homeland.

It really blows my mind that Yuli Edelstein, who has been hailed as a hero, for his suffering in the former Soviet Union, from none other than anti-Semitism (Jew Hating), and for his battle to make aliyah (Jewish immigration to Israel), does not seem to get the situation French Jews are facing.

MK Yoel Razbozov (Yesh Atid) appears to be another one with views I cannot quite get my head around. As young as he is (33), he must have at least heard stories of the trials and tribulations of the Jews in his native Russia. So when he says calls on the nations of Europe to promote tolerance, I can understand that he must be naive and/or playing the diplomat. But, when he suggests that anti-Semitic sentiment “might develop into violent action,” this disturbs me greatly, because it already has developed into violent action.

Could he have misspoke? Could he have been misunderstood?

Speaker Edelstein and MK Razbozov of all Jews should understand what our French brothers and sisters have been going through, and that...

Council Of Europe: Male Ritual Circumcision - "violation of the physical integrity of children"

ז' לחודש השמיני תשע"ד

My comments are interspersed within this article in blue italics, with a conclusion following it.
YNET: Europe Council Votes Against Circumcision
Parliamentary Assembly of Pan-European intergovernmental organization passes resolution calling male circumcision, female genital mutilation 'a violation of the physical integrity of children.' Jewish leader: War against circumcision, ritual slaughter conceals new anti-Semitism

Kobi Nachshoni, October 3, 2013

Are Europe's Jews about to launch a new struggle for the observance of the circumcision ritual across the continent? The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which represents most of the continent's states, has passed a resolution calling male ritual circumcision a "violation of the physical integrity of children according to human rights standards."
This is code for "In Europe, human rights and Torah are not believed to be compatible."
At the end of a debate in Strasbourg, the Parliamentary Assembly ruled overwhelmingly that male circumcision and female genital mutilation are forbidden, unless the child is over the age of 15 and has given his or her consent to the practice.

The council passed the resolution based on a report by the Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development, by a vote of 78 in favor and 13 against, with 15 abstentions.
It calls on the council's member states to "clearly define the medical, sanitary and other conditions to be ensured for practices such as the non-medically justified circumcision of young boys," the JTA reported Wednesday.
Gee. I wonder why the Muslims do not riot over this. Well, their forefather Yishma'el was circumcised at the age of 13 (Gen. 17:23-26). So, I suppose that 15 is close enough. That still does not explain how they are just going to let any laws against "ritual slaughter" slide by. I suppose that the riots will not start until reality sets in for them,...when individual countries make it so.
Fear of wave of legislation
The council further called on states to "initiate a public debate, including intercultural and interreligious dialogue, aimed at reaching a large consensus on the rights of children to protection against violations of their physical integrity according to human rights standards" and to "adopt specific legal provisions to ensure that certain operations and practices will not be carried out before a child is old enough to be consulted."
This is just code for "You are not allowed to follow the Torah."
According to the JTA, large majorities rejected five amendments that sought to remove or alter references to the circumcision of boys. For example, many of the members supported an amendment that removed a reference to the "religious rights of parents and families."

The Council of Europe is a pan-European intergovernmental organization whose resolutions have no legal force and do not bind its member states, but European organizations fear that this declarative move will be perceived as a professional recommendation by the most important body in the continent on democracy and human rights issues, which may lead to a wave of legislation banning circumcision across Europe.
See? Democracy is NOT the Jews' friend! Human rights? Human rights, but not Jewish rights.
The Jewish groups are mainly protesting the failure to distinguish between male circumcision, which is seen as legitimate not just among Jews, and female genital mutilation, which is considered in nearly every culture as a violation of a woman's body and dignity and is strongly opposed by human rights organizations.
A reasonable premise, but these "Jewish groups" are in big time denial that Jew-haters are not reasonable.
'Violation of freedom of religion'
Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, president of the Conference of European Rabbis, told Ynet that in the short time since the resolution was passed, he and his associates had managed to appeal to many of the council members on the issue, and that these members plan to demand a new debate which will consider allowing male circumcision.

"The war against circumcision and ritual slaughter conceals the new anti-Semitism, which is a violation of the freedom of religion all EU countries have signed," said Rabbi Goldschmidt. "Although this is not a binding resolution, it encourages the dark forces which seek to see Europe clean of Jews."

The struggle for the right to practice circumcision has been held in several countries, and in the past year Jewish and Muslim organization scored a significant victory in Germany, where circumcision was permitted after five months of uncertainty since a court in Cologne defined the ritual as "a serious and irreversible interference in the integrity of the human body."

The German parliament passed a law protecting the right to circumcise infant boys and granting parents the right to circumcise their sons using a certified circumciser. Meanwhile, in Scandinavian countries there have been increased calls to ban the ritual.

Esser Agaroth (2¢):
Well, well, well...

Is anyone surprised? If so, then you've got sand in your ears. You know, from having your head buried in the sand all this time!

With all due respect to Rabbi Goldschmidt, who is doing the galuth (exile) rabbi's job of protecting Jews and Judaism in galuth,...could this act of the EU be just more writing on the wall that European (and North American) Jews simply refuse to see?

New anti-Semitism? This is most certainly not the first time that the practices of brith milah (Jewish circumcision) and shehitah (kosher slaughter) have been fought through legislation. Did no one learn about the Roman Empire in school???

And so, the New and definitely UN-holy, Roman Empire/Edom (B'reishith Rabba) strikes again in its war on The Almighty's Will and His Holy Torah!

Just as Esau reveals his many different faces in the Torah, when going up against his Ya'aqov, so his descendants, whether European "progressive" elite or the Christian Crusaders of today or 1,000 years ago, have always worked toward the same goal,...his (Israel's) destruction.

And, of course,...Esau was never circumcised; he never had a brith milah (ie. not a part of the "covenant")

I cannot emphasis enough, that this is not about giving up the fight for the freedom to be Jewish, and have that protected in galuth (exile). This is about reading the writing on the wall, and moving back to only place where ones Jewish identity can be expressed to its fullest extent.

In this week's parasha Lech-L'cha, Avraham Avinu, then still Avram, was commanded by The Almighty to get up and move out his native land, away from all that he knew, and travel to a Land foreign to him (...to the land that I will show you. - Gen. 12:1), where he and his descendants were to settle.

Rabb Yehudah HaLevy, the author of Sefer HaKuzari teaches that as high a level which Avraham Avinu was on, the only place where he could reach perfection was Eretz Yisrael (The Land of Israel).*

That perfection, of course, also included brith milah, now on its way to be legislated out of the European Union. The two go together, brith milah and Eretz Ysira'el, along with a third, the Torah, and its various other "signs," such as Shabbath observance.

How long will Jews wait, before they finally realize that Eretz Yisra'el is the ONLY Land for them?

How long will it take for Jews to wake up and realize that they are not truly a part of their nations of temporary residence in galuth?

How long will it take for Jews to remember that galuth?is the punishment? The punishment is NOT having to pack up, leave many of your belongings behind, and travel to a Land foreign to you (...to the land that I will show you. - ibid.), where you and your descendants are to settle.

wait, before they finally realize that Eretz Yisra'el is the ONLY Land for them?

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Jewish American Parents

מוצש"ק פר' כי תבא תשע"ג

When I saw this report, I really felt for this Jewish kid in Massachusetts, and his parents. Thirty years ago, my parents handled a similar situation in the same way. When it came down to "fight or flight," fight won hands down.

But, now that I am the adult, I would handle it in a completely different way.

Times Of Israel: Massachusetts Parents Sue for Anti-Semitic Bullying of Son
Couple accuses local school board of ignoring two years of abuse that included religious slurs and Nazi salutes

JTA, August 12, 2013

The parents of a 13-year-old boy are suing their Massachusetts school district for ignoring verbal and physical attacks on their son by other students for being Jewish.

Jennyfer Sordillo and Robert Groezinger filed the lawsuit late last month against the Carver public schools in the US District Court in Boston. It was first reported in the Boston Globe over the weekend.

They claim their son was subjected to daily anti-Semitic attacks by a group of boys at his school. The abuse included religious slurs and Nazi salutes, having pennies thrown at him, and being punched and kicked. (“stingy Jew,” “dirty Jew,” and “Jew boy” and was told after being saluted with the Hitler salute that he needed to “get in the oven. )

There is only one other Jewish student in the class of 155, according to the lawsuit.

Esser Agaroth (2¢):
When my mother was running for public office, we had the, now proverbial swastika painted on our driveway. Police examined the crime scene, and pointed out that the street light was shot out. It was a professional job, the officers said.

My mother was not going to be frightened out of HER (non-Jewish) neighborhood. She refused to paint the swastika over, until every family on the block had taken a good look at it.

Why, we even received help and support from the Anti-Defamation League [ADL]. And by now, you should all know just how much I really do not care for this organization.

But, I digress....

Sounds like a good strategy, no? We won, right? After all, no one ever messed with my mother ever again. We were happily and safely tucked away, in our non-Jewish neighborhood, simultaneously trying to outdo the non-Jews at being non-Jewish, and complaining about our lack of contact with the Jewish community.

This led them to joining an Orthodox schul, the "authentic Judaism" we did not believe in, where my mother's cousins were members. My father was forced to put his highly exaggerated "trauma" of coming from a frum family aside, and had to deal with his new found popularity as the youngest Yiddish speaker in the community (age 38).

fWith all due respect to my well-educated, and very well-traveled parents, I am happy to say that this plan of action on their part pon the other hand, learned from my parents' mistakes.

I have lived in Israel for 16 years now, and haven't left in 15. But, I was not running away from the "good fight" for my Constitutional rights, including the right to live as a Jew safely and comfortably in the United States of America.

I was running TO where I am supposed to live as a Jew. We so easily forget that the U. S. is one of the many lands of our EXILE, and EXILE is supposed to be a punishment.

In the U. S., where Jews have worked hard for educational and professional advancement, and have had the freedom to do so, we so easily forget that the U. S. is a country of exile. We all heard the plight of the Jews in the former Soviet Union, of Jews getting arrested and imprisoned for teaching Jewish children Hebrew, of Jews being treated as second class citizens the minute they applied for permission to emigrate.

We all agreed that those Jews were oppressed, as were Jews still struggling to survive in Muslim countries. But, the minute it was suggested that we American Jews, too, should pack up all of our possessions, and start making our way to our "real" homeland, it was brushed off with a patronizing wave of the hand.e

We had become just like Israel in Egypt; we had become too comfortable in the land of our exile. Those Torah observant Jews conveniently clung to the relatively new concept, only about 500 years old, that Mashi'ah would come, and do all of the work for us.

We had fooled ourselves into believing that the shirking of our responsibility had been validated, that we were to sit back, pray, be patient, and not worry about it.

Eighty percent of Israel remained in Egypt, or rather, did not make it out. And, dare I bring up the all too sensitive subject of those 6,000,000 Jews, who never made it out of Europe? I hope that is acceptable for me to suggest that at least some of those Jews, HY"D (may their blood be avenged!), became too comfortable in their countries of exile. Need I point to those Jews who are all too comfortable in Europe now, in spite of the rise in violence against Jews, and the rise in tolerance for such violence.

This brings us back to those of you still too comfortable in the U. S.

Those swastikas and other anti-Jewish (let's stop using euphemisms, shall we?) are blessings. That's right. Blessings.

They are direct communications to you that you should not be there. Oh, don't worry. I know what you'll be saying next: Maybe the rockets from Azza (Gaza) and Lebanon, and threats from Iran are telling us Jews that we are not supposed to be in Israel (God forbid!).

Although, to my parents' credit, my mother has since moved to a more Jewish neighborhood, and visits Israel. My father, who still lives in the house with the painted over swastika, is, shall we say, quite mobile, and speaks six languages, three on the level of mother tongue. I am not worried about my father. He already sees the writing on the wall. He just chooses to live dangerously.

Unfortunately, no matter how hard I try, Israel just does not seem to either of my parents as a realistic option.

So, that all being said, you are not wrong for fighting for your son. It's just that a drawn out court battle, which will just cause you to incur more anti-Jewish wrath (Arabs are Semites, too, you know.).

Instead of putting a band-aid on an old festering wound, old as in almost 2,000 years of galuth (exile), use surgery, and come live in the ONLY, true home of the Jewish People, Israel.

About those rockets, and countless other terrorist attacks, which will never cease until our co-dependent, Israeli government (or another government, or a power greater than any government) finally does what needs to be done, and stops giving and giving and giving, without getting anything in return.

We need you, and you need us. Israel is where your efforts are supposed to be directed in the defense of your children. Israel is your family's home.

Sean Penn To The Rescue

י"ד לחודש השלישי תשע"ג

Noted actor, director, and writer has done a lot of crazy, liberal stuff in his day, including his visit to Iraq, his defense of the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. The list is just too long to post here.

Most of us first became familiar with Penn through his notable performance in the 1982 film "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," playing a stereotypical Southern Californian teenager, forcing those of us who were growing up in Southern California at the time to ask ourselves, "Do we really act that way?"

The answer for most of us was, "Yeah, but who cares?"

Sean Penn and Sean Penn as Jeff Spicoli
in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High"
The movie was supposedly based on Claremont High School in San Diego, although many claim the film was based on their high schools.

But, now it seems that he has set his antics aside, both on and off stage, and put his "social activism" to work, for the sake of a religious Jew, Jacob Ostreicher, who has been imprisoned in Bolivia for almost two years.
Times Of Israel: Sean Penn lobbies for haredi man imprisoned in Bolivia
Actor suggests putting pressure on sponsors of money-making Dakar Rally to reroute race until Jacob Ostreicher freed

May 22, 2013

WASHINGTON (JTA) — Actor Sean Penn urged a congressional hearing to pressure Bolivia to release a haredi Orthodox father of five under house arrest in the country.

Penn appeared Monday at a hearing on the case of Jacob Ostreicher of Brooklyn, who has been held nearly two years in Bolivia on accusations that he was in business with drug traffickers and money launderers. No proof has ever been provided in court....
I am still in shock, although pleasantly so, and wondering what the news reports must have left out. Does he have some kind of special pull in South America? Was he contacted, and asked to use his influence? Does Penn have ulterior motives? Given his history, what else am I supposed to think?

Penn even suggested financial pressure through the re-routing of a big money-making race. Is this just an opportunity to cancel a polution creating race through potentially, environmentally sensitive areas? Farfetched, perhaps, but I do not know what to think!

...Penn urged Congress to write letters to the corporate sponsors of the Dakar Rally motorcycle race, which in 2014 for the first time will go through Bolivia. As the race is a huge moneymaker for the participating countries, Penn said pressure should be exerted on the sponsors to demand the release of Ostreicher.
If Ostreicher is not freed, Penn said, the race should be rerouted to avoid Bolivia, depriving it of money and positive publicity....
His statement below hammers this idea home.

...The actor said he was “not only personally and thoroughly convinced of Mr. Ostreicher’s innocence, but particularly alarmed by a consensus both among Bolivian officials that the unevidenced prosecution against Jacob Ostreicher was standard operating procedure in the fundamentally corrupt Bolivian judiciary....”
Is the Bolivian governmental regime far right-wing or far left wing these days? I stopped keeping track when I was a teenager. While my family and I were traveling through South America, Bolivia had three different presidents within the span of one month.  If I remember correctly, one of the changeovers was even the result of a coup d'etat, shortly after we left Bolivia.

I ask this, because if it is far-left, then it would not only go against Penn's pattern of pals, but would also be "Hollywood Politically-Incorrect," a fate far worse for actors than just everyday "politically-incorrect." Of course, Penn has the clout to risk. But, why would he?

Is he really just doing the right thing?

And, with that I say a cautious,... If he succeeds in the misswah of pidyon shevuin (redeeming the captive) getting Jacob Ostreicher released, then more power to him,...but not too much.

Ancient Syrian Synagogue Looted And Destroyed,...Or Was It?

כ"ג לחודש הראשון תשע"ג

What the inside of the ancient Jobar Synagogue in Damascus, Syria used to look like.
Historic Damascus Synagogue Looted And Destroyed
Assad forces, rebels trade blame for destruction of country’s holiest Jewish site; ‘it’s the Syrian heritage regardless of religion,’ says official

JTA and Yoel Goldman, April 1, 2013

The 2,000-year-old Jobar Synagogue in the Syrian capital of Damascus — the country’s holiest Jewish site — was looted and burned to the ground.

The Syrian army loyal to President Bashar Assad and rebel forces were blaming each other for the destruction of the historic synagogue, according to reports on Sunday.

The synagogue was said to be built on the site where the prophet Elijah concealed himself from persecution and anointed his successor, Elisha, as a prophet. It had been damaged earlier this month by mortars reportedly fired by Syrian government forces.

The rebels said the Syrian government looted the synagogue before burning it to the ground, Israel Radio reported Sunday.

The government said the rebels burned the synagogue and that so-called Zionist agents stole its historic religious items in an operation that had been planned for several weeks, the Arabic Al-Manar Television reported, citing the Arabic Syria Truth website.

The news came as Jews around the world marked the final days of Passover, the festival of freedom....

(Insert pluralistic crap here)

Syria’s Jewish community faced rampant discrimination after the establishment of Israel.

Really? No kidding! I would say that "discrimination" is an understatement. And what about before the establishment of the State? Watch the following video to find out.

With Jewish property rights severely limited, the synagogue was taken over and converted to a school for Palestinian refugees.

What a minute. Did the reporters miss this, or pass over (pun intended) this on purpose? Does this mean that a "school for Palestinian refugees" was looted and destroyed?

Think about. "Zionist agents" are always implicated whenever anyone has a chance. The destruction of Palestianian schools is always fiercely publicized, and whenever anyone has a chance.

Why not now? Because this time, no matter how hard they try, there is no getting around the fact that Arabs did the looting and destroying.

JTA. No surprises here.

Only some 20 Jews are believed to live in Syria today, all of them in the capital.

What they still doing there? I have heard several reasons, but am not sure which are true, and which are lies:
1) The Jews themselves don't want to leave.
2) The Jews are now allowed to leave.
3) The Jews have given up.
4) Take your pick.
In early 2011, Assad announced plans to rebuild about a dozen synagogue across Syria, including in Damascus.

Why? For only 20 Jews?

— a move that was regarded in part as an effort to gain some support from American Jewry. (cont.)

Maybe. But there is a lot more "wagging the dog" going on here than meets the eye.

Esser Agaroth (2¢):
Funny,...well,...not really, that one way or another, Arabs looter and destroyed an ancient synagogue. Yet, this piece desperately tries to paint the Syrians as peace loving, even Jew-loving people.

What's wrong with this picture?

Even though this synagogue had already been confiscated by one Arab faction. After that one Arab faction or another looted and destroyed what was being used as a school for Palestinian refugees.

Where's the outrage?

One More Sign That Jews Must Leave France!

י"ח לחודש האחד עשר תשע"ג
Jewish Daily Forward: 39% of French Say Jews Hold 'Too Much Power'
Survey Shows Both Positive and Negative Extremes

JTA, January 27, 2013

A new survey on how Frenchmen perceive Jews revealed widespread anti-Semitism alongside high support for Israel and pro-Jewish sentiments.

The survey, conducted earlier this month by the polling company Market Watch among 1,000 respondents, showed 39 percent of the men and women who replied agreed with the statement that “Jews possess too much power in business.” Another 21 percent disagreed and 40 percent said they were neutral.

Forty-seven percent of respondents said French Jews were more loyal to Israel than to France, while only 15 percent disagreed. The poll, published on Jan. 24 by the World Zionist Organization, which commissioned it, was performed online on Jan. 13 via a platform developed by the IPSOS polling firm.

But when asked about their sentiments regarding French Jews, 43 percent said they had a “positive” view and 53 percent said they were neutral. Only four percent said they had negative views of Jews.

Asked about their views on Israel, 20 percent said they had a “favorable” view of the Jewish state; 61 percent said they were neutral and only 19 percent said they had a negative opinion of Israel.

Fifty-four percent of respondents said “anti-Jewish sentiments” were the source of violent incidents targeting Jews; 19 percent attributed violence against Jews to “anti-Israel sentiments” and 27 percent had no opinion on the matter.

Do not be fooled by the 43% which claimed to have a positive view of Jews.  What kind of positive views?  Stereotypes?  Envy?  Jealousy?  Not so positive, are they?

The ethnicity of those surveys were not reported.  If it turns out that the majority of those surveyed were Muslim, that would be one thing.  It would still not encourage any optimism from me, as the Muslim population in France is on the rise, and we all know how such an increase will be reflected in their attitudes: increased distance from French culture, increased willingness to express Muslim-based opinions, and increased displays of Muslim attitudes publicly.

However, I do not see researchers marching into Muslim neighborhoods, where there has been a history of rioting anytime soon.  Do you?

The situation is much worse in France than this survey, of only 1,000 participants, appears.

I am not sure what the goal of the JTA is in presenting this survey.

Keeping us numbed out, and away from Israel?

I cannot be sure, but it would not surprise me.

So, exactly what power does the 39% of those surveys think that Jews in France have?

The power to get beaten up?  The power NOT to be able to wear Jewish head coverings in certain neighborhoods?  The power to get our children's schools attacked?  The power to killed in a violent manner?

How many more surveys do the Jews in France need?

It's time to get out already, and come to Israel, your only, true homeland.
