Europe’s Jewish population of roughly 1.4 million people could disappear by the middle of the century, warned Russian-born philanthropist and Jewish activist Moshe Kantor, the founder of the World Holocaust Forum and president of the European Jewish Congress.

In an interview with Galei Tzahal’s Efi Triger which was aired on “Good Morning Israel” Wednesday morning, Kantor said the rise in anti-Semitism around the world – and the political polarization which has fueled that rise – could potentially result in a “global catastrophe”. (cont.)

To the question, "Would it be bad if there won't be any Jews left in Europe by 2050?" the short answer is:

No, it would not be in the slightest.

Unless Moshe Kantor identifies with the Satmar and Neutei Karta perspectives of waiting for Mashi'ah to arrive and re-establish Jewish sovereignty over the Land Israel himself, without any direct physical, pre-arrival preparations (Prayer and Torah study most definitely preparations.), then I am not in the least bit interested in hearing about re-invigorating European Jewish communities.

Protecting and defending the members of these communities until then can make aliyah (immigrate to Israel)? Yes. Re-building and re-juvenating them? No.

As far as a "global catastrophe" goes, let the non-Jews worry about the non-Jews. Let Edom (The West) worry about Edom. Let Yishma'el (Arabs/Muslims) worry about Yishma'el. Let Persia (Iran) worry about Persia.

Let Jews worry about Jews, and see Edom, Yishma'el, and Persian as the threats that they are, and places where Jews have no business residing. Let Jews invest in our only true homeland. Neither the United States nor Europe is the only true homeland of the Jewish People; the Land of Israel is.

If Kantor actually identifies as a Zionist, then he has got some hutzpah (gall, nerve). A real Zionist believes that not only is it the Jewish People's obligation to fight on behalf of the Land of Israel as our homeland, but also to encourage the aliyah of Jews, ALL Jews.

The opposite of Zionism is keep Jews imprisoned in galuth (exile / Diaspora), in order to maintain positions of power and prestige.

On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin invited Jews facing anti-Semitism in Europe to return to Russia. The comments, reported by the RBC, a Russian media outlet, took place during a meeting in Moscow with a delegation from the European Jewish Congress, which expressed concerns over the culture of anti-Semitism in Europe, “the worst since World War II,” said its president Viatcheslav Moshe Kantor. In reponse, Putin said: “During Soviet times they left, so let them return.”

Putin then made a “come here” gesture with his forefinger and, in an uncharacteristically gentle manner, instructed the Jewish delegation and the Jews of Europe, saying: “Here, to us. They should come to us.” (cont.)

Spain and Portugal have already made similar offers for Jews to return. Under German reparations for the Holocaust, an Israeli citizen may not be turned down for a German work visa. Germany, Austria, Poland, and presumably other countries, are offering opportunities for grandchildren of Jewish citizens who fled Europe during the Holocaust to apply for citizenship.

Muslim, Jew-hating violent France, not only has a chief rabbi who appears to be encouraging Jews to stay, but also has a former K'nesseth Speaker as one of its citizens, Avraham Burg.

Denmark's chief rabbi is also disappointed by calls for aliyah (Jewish immigration to Israel).

Vladimir Putin is not the only Russian encouraging Jews to live in Russia. Rabbi Alexander Boroda, head of the Chabad-affiliated Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia, seems to as well.

So, you see, Putin's gestures to Russian Jews are nothing new. They are part of a larger trend.

In this week's Torah portion Beshalah, those of B'nei Yisra'el who survived the plague of darkness, have left Egypt, and are preparing to cross a Red Sea, which has yet to part miraculously.

Most are afraid, believing themselves surrounded by dangers, the Egyptian soldiers on one side, and certain death by drowning in the Red Sea, on the other. Some cry to return, "better to be slaves in Egypt and alive, than free and dead."

And now, we are standing at the edge of the same sea. However, many, if not most of us, have already made it to Eretz Yisr'ael (Land of Israel). Yet, there are still many of us who are tempted to leave, even more so, by the apparent welcoming, open arms of the lands of our previous exiles.

Can you imagine that? There are those Jews who are actually tempted to leave our Divinely Promised land? Those who prefer to have their hashqafoth (Torah perceptions) dictated by their feelings, instead of having their feelings influenced by the Torah?

Certainly there are heterim (permissions) to leave Eretz Yisra'el. But these are only for temporary periods of time. And if everyone leaves, at this crucial juncture, then who will be here to fight to keep our only true Homeland? No one? We will just wait around in exile for Mashi'ah to arrive and do all of the work, fooling ourselves that it is actually safe there in the first place?

The temptations from the outside, from our the lands of our exile are clearly a test, a filtering out. Only this time, instead of sticking around those lands, waiting to be taken by the plague of darkness, these Jews are actively seeking out the darkness, and subsequent death from it!

The European Jewish Congress (EJC) has called on authorities across Europe to provide Jewish communities with a sense of security after the latest attack Saturday has left a Jewish man, reportedly a rabbi, with multiple stab wounds in Antwerp. 

“Jews in Europe have lost a normal sense of security that worsens with every attack on Jews and Jewish institutions which are taking place with alarming regularity,” Dr. Moshe Kantor, President of the EJC said. “As citizens of Europe, it is the responsibility of the authorities, political, judicial and law enforcement, to ensure that Jews feel free to walk the streets in the open and live their lives absent of the fear these attacks generate.” 

A Jewish man is in serious condition after he was stabbed Saturday while walking to his synagogue in Antwerp, Belgium. The motive behind the attack is still unknown and the suspect has been arrested by Belgian police. According to some reports, the man is a hassidic Jew, and he was identified as a rabbi by some sources.

“At the root of these attacks is the ongoing incitement against Jews from across the political spectrum and radical Islamists,” Dr. Kantor said. “There is a war against the Jews on the internet and on the streets. Until there is a crackdown on incitement to hatred and anti-Semitism, then more people will believe that these types of attacks are legitimate.”

“The Jews of Europe deserve to be protected from these type of attacks and we call on authorities to take any and every possible measure to prevent these attacks from occurring in the future.”

Moshe Kantor, wake up!

"They" are NOT going to help you. And YOU are not doing your fellow Jews in Europe an favors, quite the opposite, in fact. You are putting them in serious danger by confusing the heck out of them. I believe that you are putting a stumbling block in front of them.

The only solution is for the Jews in Europe, including yourself, is to get out, while you still can.

Moshe Kantor, himself, says, “There is a war against the Jews on the internet and on the streets."

This is a war, which you cannot win in Europe, because you are no longer supposed there.

Stop investing your time and energy in the lands of your exile. Your only true homeland is Eretz Yisra'el.

Now stop ranting about how Jews be protected by non-Jewish leaders, take some real responsibility for yourselves, pack your bags, and get on the plane already!

The only talking you should be doing is that of encouraging your fellow Jews in Europe to leave, and to come home.

You should also be using every ounce of influence you have in order to do so, and to help get a mass emigration from Europe financed, or at least subsidized as much as possible.

I honestly do not know just how many more signs and writing on the wall you are going to get, before it is too late, and you are lost. Sure, perhaps, you will manage to sneak your family out, when you finally DO get it.

But, about the rest of the Jews in Europe?

I actually never thought I would have to write an article like this, from the green and pleasant land of England. However it is becoming truly frightening to be a Jew in UK. What is so remarkable is how quickly it all appears to have happened. One can now start to experience what it must have been like in parts of Europe under Nazi threat, when friends and neighbours suddenly and without warning, turn on you because you are Jewish.

In the last week or so alone, we have seen the Tricycle Theatre banning the annual JEWISH film festival, which is one of the most important Jewish events of the calendar. The famous Edinburgh Fringe arts festival has also banned Israeli connected theatre groups.

We have the Parliamentary Member from Bradford, a large town in Yorkshire, announcing his town to be “Israeli” free, as well as reading that a leading Scottish Nationalist has apparently declared that an independent Scotland will be “Israeli free”. None of us are surely naïve enough to not understand that in practice it means Judenfrei, unless individual Jews renounce their loyalty to Israel.

Leading Supermarkets have been invaded and ransacked by anti-Israel terrorists, threatening staff and customers. The supermarkets have succumbed to this terrorism, with rumours swirling around that they are soon to stop selling all Israeli products. Only a day or two ago, a major supermarket in Central London, actually took all kosher products off the shelf. Think about that… all Jewish products banned, many not even from Israel at all. Over 100,000 people marched through London recently in an anti-Israel and anti-Jewish orgy of sheer hatred. I know people whose life-long friends are putting the most hideous anti-Semitic ranting on their “Facebook” pages.

Our Jewish so called leaders have let us down. I personally haven’t seen nor read any leading member of our Jewish representative bodies, or Rabbis, standing up in public for our community.

This is not a good time to be a Jew in Britain . Apparently in France it is far worse. We are being cowed and terrorised by home grown anti-Semites, and by imported oriental ones.

Only in the last few days have some of the leading Newspaper columnists begun to wake up to the hatred they have themselves stirred up by their coverage of Gaza, replete with its ancient Jewish blood libel of deliberate child sacrifice.

Natan Sharansky said recently that Europe is death to Jews, and he is so correct. History shows that anything can generate the hatred. If it wasn’t Gaza it would be something else.

What can I say? Natan Sharansky is right about at least one thing. Europe IS death to Jews.

The author of this piece, Lloyd Levy, is also right, and provides us with a comprehensive report of recent, Jew-hating events in England.

I am not in the least bit surprised by any of these events, and neither should any of the large number of religious British Jews. These attitudes and events are written all over the Tana"kh (Bible), and elaborated upon by Our Sages, may their memories be for blessings (HaZa"L).

What concerns me about Levy's piece is that he seems to write as if England being Judenfrei is a bad thing. Why is it a bad thing? Jews are not supposed to be living in England; we are supposed to be living in the Land of Israel.

Galuth (exile) is a punishment, a punishment which we have so easily forgotten is a punishment. It does not matter how well British Jews have survived oppression, and have battled against discrimination. It does not matter that British Jews have successfully contributed to British society, and have even produced a Jewish prime minister.

All that matters is that British Jews see the writing on the wall, read it, internalize it, and recognize that it is simply NOT going to go away.

"This is not your home!"

"Get out!"

When Levy says that our leaders have let us down, he is right for the wrong reasons. What would he expect them to do? Fight against Esau (The West) and Yishma'el (Arabs/Muslims) simultaneously?

Although correct in this regard, Levy fails to mention any solution to the problems faced by Jews in England and elsewhere, to which, of course, there is only one.

Attitudes such as "sticking around for the fight" and "not giving up" [on our countries of exile] are completely misguided.

Only recently, European Jewish Congress President Dr. Moshe Kantor expressed the same sort of sentiment. Kantor himself compared the current atmosphere in Europe with that of pre-World War II Europe, in other words, pre-Holocaust Europe. Kantor definitely appears to be one of those so called leaders which are letting British, and other European, Jews down.

Why are our so called leaders blind to this? Are they afraid of losing their power? Their positions? Their money? Haven't they thought about their lives? The families? Their future?

Is the answer to another Holocaust scenario really to stick around and fight? Fight for what? To continuing living in the Exile?

England is not the home of the Jewish People. Neither is France nor the U. S. of A. The Land of Israel is our home. However, even now that the gates to our Homeland have been opened, many of us are still stuck, unwilling to give up the lives that we know, in exchange for the unknown challenges of building a new life in Israel, which most of us still see as a foreign country, or at best, an historical tourist attraction.

And, before you get the chance to list the countless flaws of the Israeli Government, allow me to beat you to the punch. Whether we have the ideal people in charge, throwing orders around, or the ideal form of government controlling the Land of Israel, or not, is irrelevant. Either we will step up to the plate, and form a proper Jewish government, or wait around for Mashi'ah to do it for us. Either way, the Labor Zionist State of Israel is only temporary.

At the risk of being accused of being an alarmist and Apocalyptic nut job, I would like to suggest that it is only going to get worse. I would like to believe that The Almighty does not want to leave a single one of His People behind, and needs to get our attention somehow. As I said above, this should not come as a surprise. However, it does. This is the sort of thing which happens, after 2,000 years of being inundated by the influence of cultures, not our own.

Many of us, even rabbis, have gone so far as to internalize the confusion of Western, cultural values and sensibilities with our own. They are not one and the same.

Likewise, many of us, even rabbis, have internalized the confusion of Western lands of exile with our own true Homeland.

The thought of picking up and moving to Israel is the furthest thought from their minds!

And so, galuth is so deeply ingrained within us, that it have to take a particularly nasty kick in the pants to snap us out of it, and to get us ready, both mentally and spiritually, to come home.

May The Almighty have mercy on us!

Even with Islamic Threats, European Jews still don't Seem to Get It

Although many French Jews seem to have been opening up their eyes, Thank God, packing their bags, and getting on the plane to Israel, many other European Jewish communities still do not seem to get it, in spite of the continually growing Islamic threat.

European Jewish Congress President Dr. Moshe Kantor has said that the last few weeks have demonstrated that parts of Europe are unfortunately already ripe for a terrorist attack by the Islamic State.

“Over the last few weeks we have witnessed tens of thousands of radical Islamists on the streets of Europe calling for Jihad, the slaughter of Jews and the imposition of Sharia law,” Dr. Kantor said. “The fact that specifically Jewish targets have been attacked in growing numbers demonstrates that the perpetrators are seeking to ignite a religious war on the continent and in some cases the authorities have been slow to act, further emboldening the extremists.”

“The level of violence and rhetoric has only increased and it is clear that terrorist groups like Islamic State, whose flag has been waved openly across Europe, are watching the impunity of these violent demonstrations and taking note.”

Since the beginning of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, tens of demonstrations have taken place across Europe, some have openly attacked Jews and Jewish institutions and chants like “Jews, the Army of Mohammed is coming for you”, “Hitler was right” and “Hamas, Jews go to the gas” have been heard.

“In May, a terrorist with ties to the Islamic State who trained in Syria killed four people at the Jewish Museum in Brussels. Unless European leaders prevent the import of fanatic terrorists into Europe and act strongly against extremist preachers, incitement to religious hatred and sleeper cells, this could be the first of many attacks,” Dr. Kantor said. “It is vital that European governments take a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against anyone who is inciting to violence or assisting in the perpetration of violence.”

“However, first and foremost, authorities have to take measures to reassure the Jewish community that it will be protected against the largest and most violent wave of anti-Semitism in Europe since the end of the Holocaust. Nevertheless, as we have seen in Iraq and Syria, Islamic State targets Christians, other Muslims and anyone that doesn’t follow its brand of regressive fanatical Islam.”

I cannot say whether this article pains me more, or angers me more.

Probably both.

"Who wouldn't be pained and angered by what has been escalating in Europe against the Jews,...again?!"

Perhaps, but to me, the rise of Islam within Europe has been in the making, ever since the Muslims were turned back at the gates of Vienna in 1683, and incidentally, on September 11. Instead of attacking to infiltrate Vienna and beyond, the have been "immigrating."

The Muslims have simply been doing what Muslims (Ishmaelites) do: lie, steal, rape, pillage, and conquer. So, no surprises here.

The European governments' strategy of placating the Muslims within their borders has not only been failing, but has been failing to reveal any surprises. The leaders of the European nations have been doing what the leaders of European nations have been doing throughout contemporary European history: attempting to placate the Muslims, and forcing Israel to do the same.

As Destination Green Hill pointed out to me, Europe is getting punished middah k'neged middah (measure for measure). Let the Holocaust of Jews happen, even participate in it, perhaps even cheer it on, and you get the same back in return.

What pains and angers me is the continued no response response of the European Jewish leadership.

What pains and angers me is the continued refusal to recognize that Europe is not home to the Jewish People; it is the Golah, the Exile, and it is a punishment to be there.

What pains and angers me is that along with others writing similar material will be called names such as "alarmists," "inciters," and "Apocalyptic nuts." My ego is not that big that I concern myself with such silliness. Rather,  I am concerned that Jews in Europe, particularly their "leaders," can be so thick headed that they refuse to see the writing on the wall, that moving to Israel is not even to be considered an option.

What pains and angers me is that picking up, and moving to Israel will be considered "giving up," "quitting," and "running away," instead of running to the place we are supposed to be, and always have been, Israel.

The gates have been opened, yet not only do they refuse to run to the opened gates with joy, they refuse to see that the gates have been opened; they refuse even to look.

This has all happened been before.

Rabbi Yissachar Shlomo Teichtal ztz"l, from the Hungarian community attempted to warn the Jews about what was going on around them in Europe, encouraged aliyah (immigration to Israel), and attempted to allay the frum communities' fears regarding the anti-Torah influences to faced in the Land of Israel.

The Hungarian Jewish communities, such as Satmar, were particularly vehement in their stance against the Zionist movement. Not only did they firmly believe that since The Almighty took us out of Israel, and put us into exile, only The Almighty could take us out of the Exile, and bring us back to Israel,...directly.

But this was not their only issue with the Zionist movement. They were against Zionism also due to the profoundly anti-Torah elements often associated with it, such as haskalah, secular-humanism, communism, and last but not least, Labor Zionism.

Could you blame them?

We all know what happened next, after Jews did not heed his warnings, nor examine his Torah reasoning for moving to Israel, even before the revealing of Mashi'ah.

Let us hope that this does not happen again.

Yet, in Dr. Moshe Kantor's own words,...

"...the largest and most violent wave of anti-Semitism in Europe since the end of the Holocaust."

The solution is not to talk and educate and legislate.

Been there, tried that,...a bazillion times.

The solution is not only to look at the writing on the wall, but to read it, and absorb it.

What are they waiting for? Mashi'ah?

Let's do Mashi'ah a favor, and do some of the ground work on our own, shall we?
