Debbie Schlussel, July 20, 2014
You know what’s interesting? How we always hear the shrieking whines of America’s Muslims about non-existent “Islamophobia,” while no one says a word about their very real and dangerous Jewphobia (and I should know since I’ve been the recipient of many Muslim Jew-hating death threats, for which only two people have been prosecuted–both of ‘em sent to federal prison). I mean, do you think anyone but Muslims put out these leaflets threatening Chicago Jews? If ya do, I have some land in the Sahara to sell you (and some flattened tunnels in Gaza in a package deal).
Several vehicles were targeted in the Pulaski Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side with anti-Jewish leaflets, police said. Six vehicles were discovered with leaflets on Saturday on the 6300 block of North Monticello Avenue, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada. The leaflets were found on the windshields of the vehicles, said Estrada. (cont.)
And, if 9/11 and Fort Hood and the Undiebomber and the Times Square Bomber, and every other attack that was tried on our shores isn’t enough to convince you, here’s a tip: they ain’t just goin’ after da Jews.Well, I do not know what Americans should do about it. But, Jews in America have only one solution, and that is to read the writing on the wall, and then pack your bags, get on the plane, and move to your only Although I am not routing for Yishma'el (Arabs/Muslims) to rise up and destroy the U. S. -- Esau (Rome/The West) and Yishma'el do not need any of my help to destroy each other -- I would not mind seeing the U. S. being taken down a peg, for its poor treatment of Israel. As Schlussel says, Americans are a target. Even though many still appear to be in denial about it.
You’re a target, too. What are you gonna do about it?
Poor treatment of Israel, some of you ask? Friend of Israel, some of you say?
Friends do not tell friends how to defend themselves, or in this case, how they should not defend themselves, and just lie down an take it, like the masochists we are.
Friends do not expect friends to risk the lives of their children, in order to save the lives of their enemies' children, being used as human shields.
Friends do not fund the enemies of their friends, directly or otherwise.
Friends do not force friends to fight wars for them, while publicly demonizing them for doing so. No doubt the U. S. would be very happy to see Hamas wiped out,...as would several Arabs nations.
Max Steinberg hy"d |
Nissim Carmieli hy"d |
Two "nice Jewish boys" who grew up in the U. S., one from "The Valley" and one from an Israeli family in a small town in South Texas, not to mention the other "Jewish kids," who grew up in Israel.
Naftali Frenkel hy"d, who was recently abducted and killed by Arab terrorists near Hevron, was a U. S. citizen, and much to do was made of this fact. But, to know avail. The U. S. government did not care, nor does care about its Jooz, save for its well-behaved "Court Jews." But, even then, if any ever became too supportive of Israel, let alone move here, become a citizen, and fight in its army.
No, Jews in an America are only tolerated if they are nebachy Woody Allen types, or fully assimilated Jews making fabulous movies about intermarried couples living happily ever after and/or with incredible special effects which help to keep the American populace numbed-out.
But, I digress...
The U. S. is Israel's friend, right? So, then why should it matter, American Jew, Jewish American, American Israeli? We're all on the same side, right?
Nope. Not in the least.
Sharon with Peres looking over his shoulder or Netanyahu with Peres looking over his shoulder, it doesn't matter. The Israeli Government is nothing less that a puppet of the U. S., no matter who is [apparently] running the show, not the other way around, like "Zionist Conspiracy" theorists would have you believe.
Barack Hussein Obama who bows to the King of Saudi Arabia, and doesn't care about anyone's security, not Israel's nor his own country's.They are ALL the same: Americans who concern themselves with the interests of America (well, except for Obama). And why shouldn't they? After all, it appears that Israel is the only country int he world which does NOT seek to further its own interests.
George W. Bush who invites the Saudis to hang out with him in Crawford, TX, and who is completely incapable of hiding his thirst for crude.
William Jefferson Clinton who rammed the and who pushed us to give away 93% of Judea and Samaria, which for any of you who have ever read the Bible should know that The Almighty granted to us, and not to anyone else,...not after the poor slobs, the Canaanites, who were destined for failure. I wish I could blame him for the Oslo "Death" Accords, but our politicians and sneaky "Justice System" happily take all of the credit for them.
George H. W. Bush... Madrid Conference pressure,...loan guarantees playtime,...restraint against Iraq, the list goes on....
Still, even if you could refute all of the above, and prove to me that all American presidents and governments are "holy" allies of Israel, it would be irrelevant. America is one of the lands of our exile; it is not our true home.
Now, are you ready for the clincher? Probably not, but I'll tell you anyway. Exile is a punishment. That's right, a punishment. Every second that the Jewish People was not residing in their Divinely promised Homeland, it was an embarrassment.
The great successes Jews have made in not only fitting into mainstream, American society, but making incredible contributions to that society, do not change the fact that exile is a punishment.
Schlussel points out, "they ain’t just goin’ after da Jews."
I agree with 90 to 95% of whatever Debbie Schlussel writes, and this issue is no exception. She's right.
Yet, Steinberg and Carmieli were killed during the performance of the misswah (Torah commandment) of protecting, and in my opinion, fighting in a milhemeth misswah (obligatory war). Frenkel was killed simply because he was a Jew. None of them were killed because they were Americans.
Some of you will be moved by this, by the war they were fighting, and by double standards weighed against Jews. You will wake up from your assimilated, numbed-out state (most of it, anyway), pack your bags, and get on a plane to Israel.
Yet others of you will be frightened by the situation, and the deaths of clean cut "American" boys in Israel, clutch onto your creature comforts even harder, cancel your vacation to Israel, or your child's year of study there.
Let us not forget that 80% of Am Yisra'el remained stuck in Egypt, having assimilated or perishing in the darkness.*
How many of you will be able to see the writing on the wall?
How many of you will will remain stuck in
How many of you will remain covered in the darkness?
*********
*Our Sages, the Kol HaTor among them, teach us of the parallels between our exile in Egypt and our current exile in Edom, including the parallels between their respective conclusions.

Since 1948, the most dangerous place in the world to be a Jew is the Zionist entity. If an arab or muslim murders me in America, I can be sure that the police will make every effort to apprehend my killer and when they do catch him, he will either be executed or spend the rest of his life in a real prison. If an Arab were to kill me in Eretz Yisrael, the police *might* eventually catch the killer (after denying vigorously that it was "nationalistically motivated") at which point he will go to a luxury resort for 10 years or so until he is released as either a good will gesture or part of some prisoner exchange.
There is only one army since the Nazis that has destroyed entire Jewish communities, the IDF. Even today, while war rages in the south, the IDF is operating against the Jews in Yitzhar.
Eretz Yisrael is my land, but Israel is not my country and Israelis are not my brothers. I will not pray for the State of Israel, I will not fight for it, I will not support it and I will not be a part of it.
The only reason now for a Jew to "come home" to Eretz Yisrael is the same reason that there has always been: because it is a Commandment, one of the most important Commandments, that we do so.
But make aliyah for reasons of personal safety? There is no place where we are in more danger, spiritually as well as physically.
Billy,
I agree with much of your comments, in particular your distinctions between the "State" and Eretz Yisra'el, which is unfortunately not apparent to many, if not most Jews.
You are also correct about the reasons for making aliyah.
Far be it for me to state what HaShem is doing, and why, but is it not possible that the physical kick in the pants is what Jews will understand, rather than any spiritual nor Torah reason, both of which can easily be terutz-ed away?
Look at what's going on around us in France and Chicago.
It got 400 French Jews here just recently, in spite of the rockets.
Could Jews from Chicago and LA and New York be the next to fill up a plane?
BTW, keep your eye on Yitzhar. I believe it will be pivotal.
I have been following Yitzhar for years, and wrote this way back in תשס״ט.
The Land of Israel has always and in every generation had a very strong pull effect on the Jews. While it's true that in every generation of our exile only a very small percentage ever made Aaliyah, what is amazing is that any ever did so at all: leaving behind families, businesses and lives because they loved the land so much. Still others made pilgrimages, sent donations or at least prayed and thought about it.
And even today, you often see the Jews from the west who make Aaliyah are generally not very religious or ideological (in fact most of the people I know who have made Aaliyah are center-left garbage about whom nothing positive can be said; while right wing extremists like me prefer to stay in the Galut), they are just motivated by some "pull" that they can't explain.
All that being said, since the birth of the Jewish people, this pull factor has never been enough to convince the overwhelming majority of Jews to move to Eretz Yisrael. Most Jews preferred to stay in Egypt, Babylon and Yemen in the past and they prefer to stay in America, Australia and Canada today.
It's possible that decreasing security and prosperity in the west will eventually force it's Jews to make Aaliyah but who knows? My fear is that a wave of Aaliyah from the west will actually further delay the redemption by adding 4 million humanistic losers to Israel's population.
I hear you on many many points. I'm not making aliyah yet because when I made a pilot trip I was told repeatedly that my kids are.too old and that it will be very very difficult for them in Israeli schools and society. I was.also told that while it would not be impossible for my husband to find work, his age and need to learn the complex medical terms in Ivrit would make many fold difficult.
Ok, so as I went around the country and spike with about 6 aliyah reps, they echoed this same sentiment.
Did they say we are.not allowed.to make aliyah? No, they said they would be very up front, though. I appreciated their honesty and am glad that I did not "just pick up my family" and go.
I also am updating passports and the like....
I hold by something that Rabbi Winston told me (and others): If.you are.not able to get to Israel, at least long to be there.
I get it that Jews need to make aliyah. I get it. The problem is, not all of us are able to get.there. Some have ailing family and can't.leave them etc...some.are not able to leave for financial reasons that 5 months of gov't $ help will still leave them in $ trouble.
Whatever the.reasons are, I hope that you will refrain from making blanket statements that we are "numb" and in an "assimilated state."
Please don't lump.sum everyone in one particular category.
Take care and stay.safe.
Leah,
I, too, appreciate your points, and have appreciated you previous comments.
I know that it may not be much consolation, but I have made a special point to use words such as "most," "many," and "some."
Unfortunately, my experience is that Jews with your attitude are not as numerous as we would hope.
I know many Jews like you in the U. S. who have made the effort and have done the research, and pilot trips, and are still stuck for any number of reasons.
I appreciate R' Winston, and his etzah. I will add to this that his suggestion may also provide you with a idea you may not have thought of, enabling you to solve some of your issues, regardless of how implausible they seem to solve now.
As far as the pragmatism of all of the various aliya experts with whom you met, I simply cannot argue with any of their "practical" points.
Please keep in mind that I was "rejected" for aliyah for the L. A. office conveying the message from the Interior Ministry. No one bothered to tell me that all this means was that they would not pay for my flight. I received all other benefits I was entitled too. This was before NBN, and without lump sum payments.
I have friends who "made aliya" (really, registered/applied for citizenship or residency) from Israel, like I did. When NBN was involved they did receive their lump sum payments.
These representatives are looking at aliyah as an investment in people, and, understandably so, unwilling to invest in an individual or family who they think will not "make it" here.
The focus of my posts (I would like to think) is on those Jews who would never even think about living in a trailer or using a refrigerator box with a piece of fabric thrown over it for a coffee table.
Billy, I would not worry so much about those "humanitarians."
For all we know, HaShem is setting up our next "challenges" in order to strengthen us, either qiruv work or additional Jews we are suppose "confront."
You also never know when things will all of a sudden click, and turn these Jews around, however implausible that may seem.
Everyone I know who has moved here has, or has developed, some way of thinking out of the box, regardless of hashqafah.
Not sure if this means anything. But, I have had a front row seat to the interesting developments over the years, this week being one of the most revealing!
Got it, understood, and I do hear you. It just gets difficult here because I truly believe and encourage others to believe that Hashem is sending Moshiach so very soon. The thing for my family (and others may disagree) is that Icannot sacrifice some (or all) of the members of my family(my older teens) to come and not make it because we pushed them too too much. I must balance the two issues: Moshiach is coming very soon and I cannot risk the loss of the stability of my older teens in order to move them to another country that really is actually very different from the one they live in.
Could I handle the move and integration? Perhaps. I am 44 years old, though. They are 16 and almost 14. One is going into 11th grade. I both think and feel it is best to let them finish out school here. By then our others will be older, too. Until then the geulah is unfolding before our very eyes and I would like to be there already....not easy. There are many like us.
I appreciate your response, though and I do hear your points. stay safe and may we see the geulah THIS year!!!! :)
Leah,
I just had a thought.
A friend of mine got married one year ago. They came to Israel to visit his mother, who couldn't come to the U. S. for the wedding.
The really enjoyed it, and seemed very well acclimated. They both speak Hebrew, have lived here previously, and have family here. In addition, he served in the IDF.
I keep nudging them to come back and stay, especially now. But, then I realized something. When Jews start to leave, perhaps en masse, they will be their to help other Jews who may not have a clue about Israel.
So, I suppose as long as we do whatever we can, everything will fall into place as it is supposed to.
