No one doubts the heroism of those Jews like Yuli Edelstein (Likud), currently the Minister of Hasbarah and Diasporah Affairs.  He fought and suffered while stuck in the former Soviet Union.  He was an inspiration to others in the same situation, as well as to those of us living in relative freedom in the West.  He helped keep their spirits alive and maintain their sense of hope.

The following is the translation of an excerpt from a letter I received from Mina Fenton, former Jerusalem City Council Member, followed by its translation.  Please read it, before you cast your vote in the Likud Primaries, and before you vote in the Israeli General Elections, this coming January, 2013.

 

I spoke with Yuli Edelstein, Minister of Hasbarah and Diasporah Affairs, while he was on his way to Binyanei HaUmah (the Jerusalem Convention Center) on Tuesday of Hol HaMo'ed Sukkoth, before he was to speak at the missionary convention of religious persecution, THE FEAST.  I made it clear to him that the Chairperson of the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem [ICEJ], organizers of THE FEAST, Jürgen Bühler is in fact a missionary.  He was a member of the management of the missionary organization "King Of Kings" in the Klal Building from 1994 to 2010, until he received the position of general manager of the ICEJ.  He is still listed as an active member of the "King of Kings."

The minister [Edelstein] thanked me, of course,.....  and said that his adviser will check into it.  This probably did not "move" the minister, and he simply thought he was speaking nonsense to the convention from a Jewish standpoint, and sold us to them for the their dollars, what I call "Journey of the Cross of Dollars."

Caring for the safety of civilians has been keeping us safe?

I seriously doubt it.

This is just more of the same Western/assimilationist confusion, or rather the desire to confuse and assimilate the Jewish People into Western society.

Thus sayeth his protege Yossi "Post-Zionist" Beilin: "We don't need a Jewish State."

This particular group of Erev Rav battles against Torah, and Torah values daily.

It's all part of the "Piece Process."

Another friend displayed a picture of his niece at her engagement party.  She was saying goodbye to her fiance, who was in IDF uniform, and being called immediately up for reserve duty.

So, if the Israeli government is going to [appear to] follow some of the halakhoth of War, then how about if it if follows ALL of them.

How Do You Say "Cease Fire" In Arabic?

Q: How do you say "Cease Fire" in Arabic?

A: "Bus Bombing."

As usual, Daniel "Sultan Knish" Greenfield writes the perfect piece, the one I wanted to write.  He also reports the objective truth better than any journalist.  Below are some of the highlights.

Israel is not allowed to win. Diplomacy takes over and snatches the victory out of its hands.

The ceasefire began the way that the war did; with a flight of rockets falling from the sky over Israel's battered south where working class families wait to learn if they will have to spend the night in safe rooms and shelters.

There is no ceasefire, despite declarations from the international community to the contrary, just as there has been no peace for the past twenty years despite peace accords being signed.

In the language of diplomacy, ceasefire does not mean that the rockets will stop falling and peace does not mean an end to the violence. They mean only that Israel is not allowed to fight back when the rockets fall and the bombs go off. Peace does not mean an absence of killing; what it means is that the terrorists are the only ones allowed to kill.

Now that Israeli planes are no longer bombing terrorist hideouts, but terrorist rockets still continue falling on Israel, the behemoth may take on water and sink once again into the depths of the sea where the cries of Jewish children cannot be heard, but the roars of Hamas commanders can, enjoying the quiet sounds of peace.

Obama has played his game well, saying one thing, while doing another, mouthing his support while driving Israel back into the bloody peace of the ceasefire. And so there is peace again. The peace of the rocket aimed at a school and the peace of the bus bombing. The peace of television programs teaching children to kill Jews and the peace of rockets being smuggled through tunnels. The peace of knives in the dark and bullets fired at cars on lonely roads. The peace of mosques that cry, "Death to the Jews" and the peace of terrorists going about their industry of death.

This is the peace that Obama has given Israel with his ceasefire. The peace of victimhood. The peace of death.

There is no ceasefire in Israel tonight or tomorrow night or every night. Only peace.

Air Raid Sirens Heard In Jerusalem!

At around 2:00 PM, while I was still shopping in the Shuq, I got a call from a friend of mine in Tel-Aviv.  He said that the sirens just went off.  I asked him if he knew where his local bomb shelter was.  He said no.  I told him that it was probably a good idea to find out, and that having an extra six pack of bottled water and some batteries, mainly for a radio and a flashlight, would also be a good idea.

I reminded him of the fire drills we used to have as kids in school.  In California, we also had earthquake drills.  The psychological theory behind those drills, in addition to their practicality, is that when people have a plan for what to do in a crisis, and that plan has been drilled into them, over and over again, not only will they have what to do when that crisis strikes, but their anxiety will at a significant lower level than if they did not have a plan.

In any event, I wonder when the "Limousine Liberals" of Ramath Aviv (a northern Tel-Aviv neighborhood) will wake up.

Here in Jerusalem, just a few minutes after sheqi'ath hahamah (sunset), the air raid sirens went off.  Lucky me, my bedroom IS the bomb shelter.  It is also the "sealed room" of the apartment, in the event of chemical or biological attacks.

Of course, did I go into my bedroom?  No.  Instead, I went out on the balcony, and looked around.  Nothing that I could see, and no "all clear" sounding.  I didn't even know if there is an "all clear" sound to expect.  A little while later, I heard some explosions in the distance.  What they were, I could not tell.  Then then were fireworks.  But, those often occur on Friday evenings anyway, Arabs always celebrating about something, a wedding, a holiday, Jews getting killed.  You know, the usual....

When my roommate came home from dinner, he relayed the various rumors and theories about what had happened.  He said that his dinner hosts had their radio on the "silent radio station."  A silent radio station is a station which remains silent, unless their is something dangerous which needs to be reported to the public.  This allows those of us who keep Shabbath to turn the radio on before Shabbath, not be distracted or disturbed by the noise (because there isn't any), and yet be kept informed of what is going on for sake of piqu'ah nefesh (saving a life).

I did not know that this station was still around, or had been reimplemented.  What did I know?  I was living in "safety" within the boundaries of the City of Jerusalem.

I should have know all along that this radio station was operating, for the benefit of those under fire in the South and in North of the country.

The announcements on the radio were not clear.  Some of the theories and rumors my roommate had heard included a rocket hitting Rivqa Street in the southern Baq'a neighborhood.  It was fired from East Jerusalem.  I was fired from Azza.  The rocket landed somewhere in Gush Etzion.

The air raid sirens were a warning to me, and to all of us, not to become complacent.

After Tel Aviv metropolitan area, capital under fire too: An air raid siren was sounded in Jerusalem and surrounding communities early Friday evening. After residents reported hearing blast sounds, security forces confirmed that one rocket had landed in the Gush Etzion area near a Palestinian village. There were no reports of injuries or damage. Meanwhile, Russia and others countries have been criticizing

The Israeli Government always does a half-ass job.  They send the IDF into Azza.  The "international community" complains.  The government pulls the troops out.  And the rockets start all over again, assuming they ever stopped, which this time they did not.  It is a pattern, an unhealthy pattern, of placing the opinions of goyim (non-Jews) over the opinions of its own people, not to mention HaShem's. It is an unhealthy pattern of following Western values, sensibilities, and practices over Torah values, sensibilities, and practices.

When will they ever learn?  When will we finally stop tolerating it?

When Rockets Fly In The Correct Direction

Most of you know just how critical I can be of the Israeli Defense Forces [IDF], its leadership for the evil acts perpetrated against Jews, supposedly its own people it is mandated to protect, and those of its religious soldiers who blindly follow orders, without a single thought directed towards Torah.

That being said, the following video IS pretty cool.  Whether the elimination of Ahmed Jabri, the head of the Hamas military wing in the Gaza Strip, was primarily an attack on Hamas, or a strategically placed event leading up to the Likud Party Primaries.

It doesn't matter.  This video IS cool.  And, it's only 10 seconds, so check it out!

The video reminds me of when, as a kid, my father would go on about how great the Israeli Air Force was. This video re-confirms that.

I haven't written too much about Jonathan Pollard.  Perhaps I should have.  But, Tomer Devorah has always seemed to cover everything which needed to be covered.  So, I kept my focus on other areas.  See her material on Jonathan Pollard here.

JPost: Jonathan Pollard Not Bearing Grudge Against Peres

Jailed former Israeli spy reacts to his handler's admission that Pollard was incriminated under orders from Shimon Peres. Israeli agent Jonathan Pollard chose to express hope rather than anger in response to an interview with his former handler Rafi Eitan, who revealed for the first time that he incriminated Pollard under orders from then-prime minister and current president Shimon Peres.

Eitan told Yediot Aharonot in an interview published Friday that he gave the Americans information he knew would be used against Pollard. He said he had no choice other than to abide by government decisions.

"When I testified, I felt a myriad of emotions," Eitan said. "I had a deep feeling that I should not talk to the Americans about the episode, because they certainly did not want what was best for Pollard. But on the other hand, I am a disciplined soldier. I have never acted against the government's orders, even when I thought we should be acting differently."

The Campaign for Pollard's Freedom responded by expressing shock that Israel became what they said was the first country in the world to actively incriminate its own agent. But the campaign refused to criticize Peres.

"Neither we, nor Jonathan, wants to dwell on the past," the campaign said. "What matters is that the president is currently in the best possible position to end this unfortunate tragedy."

Pollard will begin serving the 28th year of his life sentence November 21. Peres and Pollard have issued formal clemency requests to US president Barack Obama, but he has never responded.

US presidents usually grant pardons and commute sentences during the American holiday season that begins with Thanksgiving on November 22.

BC: Need I remind you of who Rafi Eitan is? Look who got it right 15 years ago:

* Rafi Eitan was Jonathan Pollard's handler. He took Pollard's data and transferred it personally to PM Shimon Peres all through 1985. And if anymore thinks he accidentally rose to lead a Pensioner's Party, knows nothing about the corruption of the Knesset. He was never poor enough to even need the party, let alone lead it.
         Just 20 years ago, Pollard was a powerful Israeli national issue. Today, it is run entirely by the Israeli Far Right. Those scary kids and the suspicious wife are responsible for Jonathan Pollard's survival, which means the rest of his life will be in prison. That's how the establishment deflates any issue: just hand it over to the Far Right. As soon as Eitan was in, the wife had her say, on the Yoav Yitzhak site, that Eitan should resign. The message was, naturally, ignored by Israel. 

 I am very concerned about Pollard, as much if he gets released as if he remains in prison.

I believe that he knows too many secrets, but not enough to keep himself from getting killed.  If and when he gets out, he will be a marked target.

I was messaged the other day by my good friend the Kalashnokover Rebbe shlit"a.

He pointed out that one more member should be added to the Mustache Brigade, and that I was remiss in not having already done so.  The Mustache Brigade (or Club) is made up of the The Jewish Home Party MK's and former MK's, who seem to think that a mustache is something even remotely Jewish.

That's not surprising, as The Jewish Home Party is not really Jewish, certainly not a Home, and only a re-invented Party, which, to my dismay, refuses to die already!

What's the candidates name?  Danny Hirschberg (below).  Danny is the head of the [allegedly Religious Zionist] B'nei Akiva organization.  He recently spoke at the annual Rabin Fest Kickoff Memorial. The following report from Arutz 7/IsraelNN is worth posting here in its entirety.

What is a man his age doing wearing THAT shirt?? B'nei Akiva obviously knows nothing of fashion halakhah.

Bnei Akiva head Danny Hirschberg’s agreement to speak at this year’s memorial for slain Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin has pleased the left, but is causing controversy within the Bnei Akiva movement. “Rabin was the opposite of what we stand for,” some argue.

After Hirschberg announced his decision, the Bnei Akiva branch in Itamar was the first to urge him to reconsider. “The guns that Yitzchak Rabin gave the Arabs were used, and continue to be used, in lowly acts of killing and murder of Jewish residents of Israel,” the group said.

Bnei Akiva in Itamar was particularly hard hit by terrorism when in early 2011 terrorists slew the parents and three of the five siblings of Tamar Fogel, a member of the youth group.

The Bnei Akiva branch in Hevron later submitted an appeal against Hirschberg’s plan to speak as well. In a letter, the Hevron branch noted that Bnei Akiva youth worldwide recently took part in an event in which they committed themselves to honoring the values of the movement.

“We learned from you… that a loyal person is one who ‘does not seek society’s approval and does not copy what others are doing, but instead is guided by his own path and his soul.’ Isn’t participation in this rally in contradiction?” the letter asked.

“Rabin gave weapons to the worst of our enemies, and when those guns were used to murder our sons and daughters, Rabin called them ‘sacrifices for peace,’ and calmly moved on!” the letter charged. In a parenthetical aside, it added, “Bnei Akiva can take ‘pride’ in the number of orphans it is raising thanks to that ‘glorious’ legacy.”

The letter went on to quote Rabin in his harsh criticism of the political right, noting a statement in which Rabin said right-wing rabbis were “poisoning our society.”

“Participation in the rally will be taken as agreement with the principles it was founded on,” the letter-writers warned. “We must be clear! We have no part in the poison, incitement and hate that ooze from his words.” Bnei Akiva should choose a different time and place to seek unity with the political left," they concluded.

Gee.  Maybe, B'nei Akiva is Religious Zionist after all.  Well,...at least some of the chapters might be, like Itamar and Hevron.  Well, now that I think about it, that last sentence pretty much ruins any of the remotely positive statements highlighted above.

Even more embarrassing is that Hirschberg lives in Talmon.  Talmon is situated between Modi'in on the west, and Beth-El on the east.  Its small cluster of towns, which includes Dolev and Neriah, is often referred to as being on the Israeli government's "first to go" list (חו"ח).  The farmers there are attacked by Yishma'elim (Arabs) on a regular basis, and so are their trees and vineyards.

I have no idea if Hirschberg is on the Jewish Home Party list, or has any intentions of running for it in the future.  But, it doesn't matter.

His confusion of Western values with Jewish values, his total ineptitude, his political idiocy (or savvy), and utter insensitivity put him well over the top to qualify for membership in the Mustache Club.

And so, Danny Hirschberg, with apologies for not having done so already, I officially add you to the "Mustache Club."

Hurricane Sandy - Time To Make Aliyah!

A neighbor of mine expressed his heart felt prayers for those who were hit by Hurricane Sandy, and who have been suffering as a result. He asked those individuals to ask themselves what message God was sending them through this hurricane.

Then he suggested that we in Israel who maybe anxious to answer that question for them, wait for a while, so that those Jews in New York, New Jersey, and else can have the opportunity to answer the question for themselves.

(I am paraphrasing, as I do not have his permission to quote him here.) 

I am just helping to pass along the suggestion for introspection.  But, perhaps enough time has passed to where I can do a little bit more than pass on the suggestion.

Most of you already know what I am going to say.

No doubt there will be countless excuses and counter-arguments to the need to pick up and transport ones entire lives to Eretz Yisrael, the only true homeland of the Jewish People.

Some just don't get it.

Matzav.com reports that the Agudas Yisroel of Bayswater was destroyed, and yet...

“The building of the Agudah is still standing,” a local resident said, “but everything inside - everything - has been destroyed. The shul will require a total renovation after just completing work made necessary after Hurricane Irene. From an aron kodesh, to a bimah, to seforim….there is just nothing that can be salvaged. ”

Doesn't anyone else see a pattern here?  Doesn't anyone else believe it's time to take the insurance money, and and use it to help the community in its mass aliyah efforts?

Build the next Agudas Yisroel building in Eretz Yisrael.

The non-coincidences of this year's major hurricanes occurring on mentioned by Tomer Devorah should also be checked out, for additional "wake-up" material..

Sandy hasn't been the only warning.

Remember the volcano in Iceland?  Countless Jews were unable to get back to Eretz Yisrael after their Pesah "vacations."  You know, Pesah,...the holiday when we are finally on our way to make our homes in Eretz Yisrael, the Promised Land?  It is also one of the holidays when we are supposed to make pilgrimages TO Jerusalem, and not to anywhere else, certainly not to Egypt, the Sinai being a popular Pesah holiday destination.

But, I digress...

During the Iceland volcano eruption, one rabbi even persisted in trying to leave Eretz Yisrael for a lecture or other such event, but was brought back each time he tried to leave.  I'm not sure that even he "got" what was going on.
