Lyrics: "Let My People Go"

Mossa'ei Shabbath HaGadol 5766

I don't know how many of you sang this as a kid growing up in Galuth (I never did.), or even heard of it. But, every year a friend of mine, a Rav In Me'ah She'arim of all people, asks me or another friend to look up the lyrics for him. Even though he and his wife have lived in Israel for almost forty years, and their Seder Leil HaPesah is conducted in Yiddish and Hebrew, they don't feel "yoetzei min hahovah" without the singing of this song.

To each his own....

(Negro Spiritual/X-ian stanza removed - Author Unknown)

When Israel was in Egypt's Land,
Let my people go,
Oppressed so hard they could not stand,
Let my people go.

CHORUS:
Go down Moses
Way down in egypt land
Tell ol' Pharoh
Let my people go!

Thus saith the Lord, bold Moses said,
Let my people go,
If not, I'll smite your first-born dead,
Let my people go.

CHORUS

No more shall they in bondage toil,
Let my people go,
Let them come out with Egypt's spoil,
Let my people go.

CHORUS

The Lord told Moses what to do,
Let my people go,
To lead the Hebrew children through,
Let my people go.

CHORUS

O come along Moses, you'll not get lost,
Let my people go,
Stretch out your rod and come across,
Let my people go.

CHORUS

As Israel stood by the waterside,
Let my people go,
At God's command it did divide,
Let my people go.

CHORUS

When they reached the other shore,
Let my people go,
They sang a song of triumph o'er,
Let my people go.

CHORUS

Pharaoh said he'd go across,
Let my people go,
But Pharaoh and his host were lost,
Let my people go.

CHORUS

Jordan shall stand up like a wall,
Let my people go,
And the walls of Jericho shall fall,
Let my people go.

CHORUS

Your foes shall not before you stand,
Let my people go,
And you'll possess fair Canaan's land,
Let my people go.

CHORUS

We need not always weep and mourn,
Let my people go,
And wear these slavery chains forlorn,
Let my people go.

CHORUS

He's Out!

Mossa'ei Shabbath Qodesh Tazri'a-Messora 5766

Daniel Pinner
Who is Daniel Pinner?

Daniel Pinner is a Jew living in Israel, the Jewish Homeland. He is lover of God, Torah, Am Yisrael (The People of Israel), and Eress Yisrael (The Land of Israel). He is an electrician. He is a musician. He is a good neighbor. And, I would be remiss if did not mention that he is loves his dog.

Where is Daniel Pinner?

Well, until a couple of days ago, Daniel Pinner, was sitting in an Israeli prison. Baruch HaShem! Daniel has been released, pending the out come of his appeal, which Supreme Court Justice Edna Arbel believes may be successful, due to the faulty evidence presented in the prosecution's case!

Now, how is it, you may ask, that Daniel Pinner, a Jew living in the Jewish Homeland, a lover of God, Torah, Am Yisrael, and Eress Yisrael came to sit in prison?

Well, after Daniel's release, he was literally whisked off to sit for an exclusive television interview in Jerusalem. So, click on the link, and your questions will be answered.

TV Interview With Daniel Pinner Daniel Pinner: Exclusive Television Interview
Leil Alef d'Rosh Hodesh Iyyar 5766 / April 27, 2006
(Archived for one week following the air date)

Daniel Pinner Released From Prison! Daniel Pinner Released - Exclusive Interview
by Moshe Ben Israel
Alef d'Rosh Hodesh Iyyar 5766 / April 28, 2006

Daniel was kind enough to do the interview in Hebrew as well, found on the Voice Of Judea Hebrew site: קול יהודה Please pass this link onto your Hebrew-speaking friends.

Needless to say, the atmosphere in our end of K'far Tapu'ah was filled with positive energy, both at celebrations Thursday evening and Shabbath, coinciding with the two days of Rosh Hodesh Iyyar.

Shabbath Dinner and subsequent Oneg Shabbath was filled with song, jokes, and countless vignettes of prison life, and how to survive it.

Shabbath was great fun, and full of happiness and gratitude to have Daniel Pinner back. But, he's not out of the woods yet! We cannot afford to be confused about this. Last Thursday, for whatever reason, Justice Arbel chose logic, and released Daniel, pending the appeal of his case.

Let us pray that Daniel's appeal will be successful, and his freedom secured. Nothing could be worse than having to return to prison, not even the distasteful inconvenience of mandated community serivce or probation could possibly compare with more prison time. May he be exempted from all of the above!

Let us also pray that Jewish lovers of HaShem, Torah, Am Yisrael, and Eress Yisrael will never again suffer at the hands of not only non-Jews but of the un-Jews.

Lyrics: "Oh, Once There Was A Wicked, Wicked Man..."

Purim d'Muqafin 5766

Esser Agaroth
in Purim costume
Yeah, I know this tardy, but I was asked to put this up on my blog. Perhaps some of you who have decided to continue your Purim "festivities," whatever that means, will find it useful. Otherwise, I'll just keep it stored here, so I don't have to go tracking it down again next year.

I would, of course, NEVER suggest replacing "Haman" with the name of your favorite Israeli politician, for that might be considered hasatah (incitement), which is illegal in Israel. Sorry to ruin your Purim with the news that freedom of speech doesn't really exist in Israel....

Anyway, the words were uncovered in the WWG (World Wide Genizah) by the Kalashnikover Rebbe, who also provides the "Hallachic" commentary below.

OH ONCE THERE WAS A WICKED, WICKED MAN...

Traditional Purim Song, Composer Unknown

Oh once there was a wicked wicked man,
And Haman was his name, Sir.
He would have murdered all the Jews,
Tho they were not to blame, Sir.

CHORUS:
Oh today we'll merry merry be
Oh today we'll merry merry be
Oh today we'll merry merry be
And nosh some hamentashen.

And Esther was the lovely queen of King Ahashveyrosh
When Haman said he'd kill us all,
Oh my how he did scare us.

CHORUS

But Mordechai her cousin bold
Said: "What a dreadful chutzpah
If guns were but invented now,
This Haman I would shoot, Sir."

CHORUS

The Kalashnikover Rebbe: There is a machloichis (disagreement) whether or not this verse (*) really belongs in the girsa (version). A vast majority of posqim (Jewish legal authorities) leave it out.

*When Esther speaking to the King
Of Haman's plot made mention
"Ha, ha," said he, "Oh, no he won't!
I'll spoil his bad intention."*

CHORUS

The guest of honor he shall be,
This clever Mr. Smarty
And high above us he shall swing
At a little hanging party.

CHORUS

Of all his cruel and unkind ways
This little joke did cure him
And don't forget we owe him thanks
For this jolly feast of Purim.

Israel: The Suicide Puppet

16 ofthe Tenth Month 5766

The Jerusalem Post

Report: IAF Trained For Iran Attack

This is yet another example of how Israel is being used as a puppet.

The US is stretched too thin in Iraq and Afghanistan. Israel probably jumped at the opportunity to try and gain Europe's affections,...which will never happen, as Europe is also not too pleased with Iran's provocative behavior.

Then, when Israel attacks Iran, Europe can say "We didn't do it!" Then when Europe's negotiations with Iran fail, Europe can just go back to its Plan A: Blame Israel.

Nahshon Walls z"l

25 of the Tenth Month 5766

Nahshon Walls Z-L Thirty days ago, Nahshon Walls, surrounded by friends, died of cancer. Examining the date and doing the math, will reveal that Nahshon did, indeed, leave this world on 25 Kislew, the first day of Hanukkah.

The story goes like this. On Erev Shabbath Wayeshev, the Shabbath just before Hanukkah, a close friend of Nahshon's asked of him, "Please just make it until Hanukkah."

Defying doctors' prognoses, Nahshon only left when he was damn good and ready to leave. On the first night of Hanukkah, after "amen" was said to the last of the three brachoth, and the first Hanukkah light was lit, Nahshon expelled his last breath, and passed on into the next world.

That was how Nahshon died. For how Nahshon lived, I invite you click the Revava Discussion Boards link below which will take you to Remembering Nachshon Walls, z"l by David HaIvri.
Revava Forum

I would simply add a small anicdote, I heard from Nahshon personally.

Nahshon designed and sewed various flags and traditional, Jewish four-cornered garments. His flags included those with Kahanist themes as well as the Medinath Yehudah flag.

While Nahshon was in prison, he took advantage of the "vocational" equipment available to him, such as sewing machines. Believe it or not, he actually made and sold via mail-order, Kahanist-related flags,...mind you,...using the equipment of the Israeli prison system. In order words, Nahshon used government-owned facilities and equipment to produce and to sell, the very materials which the Israeli government had been running around, trying to brand and confiscate.

And he did it right under the government's nose.

Nahshon Walls will be remembered for many reasons, including his mesiruth nefesh (self-sacrifice).

I also will remember Nahshon for his creativity and his innovation.

May his memory be for a blessing.

The Fifth of the Tenth Month 5761

5th of the Tenth Month 5766

Rav Binyamin Ze'ev & Talyah Kahane HYD

I never met Rav Binyamin Ze'ev Kahane HY"D, nor his wife Talyah Kanahe HY"D (HaShem Y'qom damam - May God avenge their blood).

They were killed five years ago today, just south of the town of Ofra. They were not the first and not the last, to be killed by snipers from that same hill, now called in their names Tal Binyamin (The Dew of Benjamin). Tal is from Talyah (dew of God) and Binyamin, as it happens is not only from Rav Binyamin Ze'ev, but the area where they were murdered, from the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, north to around Beth El.

I first heard of their murder, shortly after they were found. They were on their way back from spending Shabbatn in Jerusalem. It was a Sunday morning. They had just dropped their son, Me'ir David (named for his grandfather Rabbi Me'ir David Kahane HY"D) off at school in Beth El, back tracked to the main road, then continued north to toward their home in Kfar Tapu'ah. They did not get very far after that. Attacked by snipers, Rav Binyamin Ze'ev and Talyah Kahane HY"D were killed in front of their five daughters.

I was in Beth El, where I taught junior high school. The history teacher got a call from her brother. He had found them. There was nothing that could be done for them.

But, let us not remember Rav Binyamin Ze'ev and Talyah Kahane HY"D only for how they died; they died as martyrs. Let us remember them for how they lived.

Rav Binyamin Ze'ev HY"D was no doubt seen as a threat, placing Torah principles before the idioc practices of the State, encouraging its own self-destruction, and having the audacity (sic.) to express his ideas to others,...and in public forums.

Rav Binyamin's crime (sic.), with the altruistic support of his selfless wife Talyah, was to speak his mind, and to say what he believed was the truth, and that was Torah, unabridged and uncensored, with all of the political-incorrectness, most Israels find difficult to hear, yet the sparks of the Jewish neshamoth tell them is true.

Rav Binyamin's crime (sic.) was his attempt to wake up his brothers and sisters from their comfortable numbness.

Rav Binyamin's crime (sic.) was his desire to put the "Jewish" back in the so-called "Jewish State."

Many are not so sure that the Yishma'elim (Arabs) acted alone in carrying out their evil deed, may their names and memories of all those involved be blotted out!

I said that I had never met Rav Binyamin Ze'ev and Talyah Kahane HY"D. However, I will close with one thing I learned from Rav Binyamin Ze'ev Kahane HY"D which I carry with me always, something which has affected my view of the material world in a profound way.

Rav Binyamin Ze'ev Kahane HY"D said of Baruch Goldstein HY"D, that, irregardless of the details of what may or may not have really occurred that Purim in Hevron, 10 years ago, one thing that he did not do was think about his what people would think of him afterwards. He was not concerned about his reputation. He was only concerned with his immediate decisions which needed to be made. The only opinion of him and his actions which was of any consequences was that of HaQadosh Baruch Hu (The Holy One, Blessed Be He).

To some of you that may seem the obvious arrangement of priorities. It was to me, but only because Rav Binyamin Ze'ev HY"D said it that way he did, was I affected, and profoundly touched.

May the blood of Rav Binyamin Ze'ev and Talyah Kahane be avenged!

May the memories of Rav Binyamin Ze'ev and Talyah Kahane be for blessings.

Time To Throw The Baby Out With The Bath Water

21 of the Ninth Month 5766

The following reported by Arutz 7 is indicative of one of the reasons why, in retrospect, I might have wasted my time and NIS 48 per year registering and maintaining my membership in the Likud Party, for the sake of Moshe Feiglin:

A7: Likud Trying to Keep Feiglin Off List of Candidates

Likud Trying to Keep Feiglin Off List of Candidates
21:27 Dec 21, '05 / 20 Kislev 5766

The Likud Party has postponed by one week the vote on a list of candidates in the coming election and is preparing a new law that would forbid Moshe Feiglin from running, according to the Mabat television news program.

Agriculture Minister Yisrael Katz said the delay is aimed at Feiglin, head of the Jewish Leadership faction who won 12 percent of the vote in this week's primaries which chose Binyamin (Bibi) Netanyahu to lead the party. Mabat said that Netanyahu is preparing a new law blocking the candidacy of anyone who served three months in jail. Feiglin served time in prison in the 1990s for his civil disobedience actions protesting the Oslo Accords.

My Comments:

No matter what decent Jews with Yirat Shamayim (Fear of Heaven) try to do to change the system internally, the sick system just keeps on finding ways to remain sick, like passing laws at will which prevent anyone they don't like from being picked for the team. "He's got freckles." "He's too short." "He believes in Torah and misswoth."

Welcome back to elementary school.

Unfortunately, this is not a game.

Rabbi MK Benny Elon's famous (or infamous) "Po'alim bifnim" (working within) has yet to show any signs of working.

Prof. Paul Eidelberg's cries for how turn Israel into a real democracy continue to be mostly ignored (and feared?) by the left AND the right.*

(*This is not a cricism of Prof. Eidelberg, but rather of the chronies in the gov't and of the numb populace who refuse to listen to him.)

To Moshe Feiglin I say: It was worth a shot. People who laughed at you at first, later called you "dangerous." Now they refer to you as someone who can no longer be ignored. You received and took the opportunties and publicity you could to bring some important issues to the foreground.

My time and few hundred sheqqels were certainly well-spent for you and Manhigut Yehudit (Jewish Leadership) to accomplish even that.

But, let's face it, the people who [really] run the government are evil, and will not let you, or, for that matter Benny Elon or Paul Eidelberg, change anything.

It's time to throw the baby out with the bath water.

The Cycle Of Abuse II: The PeSh"A Council, the Israeli right wing, & Us

21 of the Ninth Month 5766

A7: The Victims Of Abuse

On 20 Kislew 5766, Yehudah Poch wrote on A7 in his "The Victims Of Abuse:"

"Until the Judea, Samaria and Gaza Council is prepared to begin acting in the long-term interests of the population it claims to represent, they will continue to play the neglectful parent role, as the government plays the abusive parent role. And the children of this abusive marriage - the residents of Judea and Samaria and the rest of the Israeli right-wing - will continue to suffer emotionally and physically at the polls."

I say that it's better to rewrite it like this:

Until the residents of Judea and Samaria realize that its PeSh"A Council will NEVER act in their interests short- or long-term, they will continue to repeat the cycle of the "victim having delusional hopes that its neglectful & passive-aggressive (PeSh"A Council) parent & abusive step-parent (Israeli right wing) will change. The residents of Ye"Sh require serious therapy (placing Torah before this government's non-Torah). Codependently hoping for their "parents" to heal is nothing less than self distructive.

Lacking any child abuse hotline, we must find a new parent: God. But, he's not actually new; he's been there along.
